*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

We arrived at POP today around 7:00 p.m. after our fairly easy 12 hour drive. We never received our room number text so we had to go to the front desk. The CM said they didn't have our online check in or my Touring Plans room request. :worried: Anyway we ended up with a room with a pretty good location in the 80's section. Had some dinner in the food court and a dip in the pool. Resting up now and heading to Epcot tomorrow morning to snack around the world with DD while DH spends some time in Orlando for work stuff.

So speaking of savings, I'm trying to decide whether to buy Disney gift cards at 5% off from Target or use my Disney Visa. Does anyone know what stores offer 10% off of $50?

It might be possible that only deluxe resorts are actually reading them. I read that somewhere but who knows.

I’m glad you received a nice room. Weather has been pretty good

My DD says the sign ups (as of Sunday when she last worked) were still slow. She has her last shift at Jedi August 5th so if you remind me I can give an update then too. But as of now-slots aren't usually filling up until noon, and even then there's random afternoon slots left. I think she said there was one Monday this past several weeks where they were pretty busy.

Thank you so much! I’m hoping to get my 11 yo signed up for a show around noon/ 1 pm and I really didn’t want to drag him out of bed at 5:30 AM for a 6:30 AM park arrival (to make the AM opening and run over) because we don’t need a slot earlier than noon. If we arrive at the park for 8 it sounds like we’ll have good odds.

I seriously miss the old Star Wars fireworks show. There’s barely any fireworks in this show.

Why did Disney change it. It was the best one I’ve ever seen like 2 years ago

I felt the same way! We did the dessert party when they first opened and loved them. They were our favorite ever. I still like them, but it is not the same. DH and the kids have not seen the new version yet, but I warned him that he probably will not like it as much.

Is it August YET??

It is! Finally! 15 days to go for us. I was very excited for today to be August, but I got sad news that my grandmother passed away this morning.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. :sad1:

:grouphug: so sorry for your loss.

Remember you can always sign up for an alternate spot as well. There are always some reserved spots for the VIP tours but the people don't always show up. And there are some special cases that can get an unofficial "extra" spot like if there is a Wish trip kid. My DD loves to get the wish trip kids in. And she got to give that spot to one kid recently (he wasn't a wish trip kiddo) who showed up at like 3 shows in a row hoping for an alternate spot. She said he was about 5 and so dang cute and excited every time he and mom showed up (and mom was really nice too). Well 2 shows the alternate slots filled up fast so this poor kiddo was out of luck. She called her coordinator on the last show and asked if she could give the "special" slot to this kiddo as he had been waiting (the alternates have to show up about 5-7 minutes before each show to see if there is a slot). She got permission to get him in the last show. From the description she gave of this kiddo's excitement it probably made his whole life to this point. This was on the busy day they had recently.

You get 6-7% off Disney gift cards at your Sam's? Am I understanding what you were saying? If so, you are lucky! My Sam's only takes 3% off now; it keeps going down. :( I go to Target for those now.

The rate is higher if ordering online, then you can use a CC with the best rewards so those do add up. I just cashed in some CC rewards (used that card to buy Disney gift cards among other things) for a Carnival GC to go towards our cruise.

This exactly. Maybe it is only 3.2%, LOL, oh well. Still some savings on top of savings through our TA. I buy them online through their website so I can use my Disney Visa to purchase. Then I also get the points, so more Disney $$, $4.80 per $484 spent (that's still only 4.2%). VooDoo Disney math :confused3. Don't tell my DH.

I have only seen 10% off entertainment cards at Target on Black Friday or soon after.

So excited, just got an crowd calendar update for out trip and most of our crowd levels have gone down :dogdance: I know i should take crowd levels with a grain of salt, but it's still promising that they are predicting lower crowds

Yes! Got this as well; it’s beautiful. Also some hours changed, as well.
