*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

A TON of FOP Fastpasses just went up. I got 9am on my first and third day!

Thank you SO much, I was able to get an earlier FoP on our day. We originally had a 3:25 and I moved it up to 10:50! Now we can burn through the first three FP+ more quickly!

Thanks from me too! I’ve been checking everyday and had checked not long before your message and they weren’t there. Moved FOP from 1.20pm to 11.45am on the 1st August :-)

Joining in--I'm arriving with my 2 kids on August 28th--so I just barely squeak into the August thread. We're staying at Pop, with free dining, for 6 nights. Today was my FP day and I got pretty much exactly what I wanted. I was hoping for a slightly earlier Slinky Dog than I found (2:55 pm on 60+4) but otherwise everything fell into place. To be fair, I wasn't trying for FoP since my kids are too young.

Now I've been playing around with touring plans all day. So exciting!

So now I'm trying to figure out if I should tell my kids where we are staying. I was keeping it a surprise. But I just told boys that we aren't staying at POP and they are unhappy cuz they didn't get to play in the Bowling pool on our pool day last year because it rained and they closed the pool down. So now I'm wondering if I should let the secret out. Unfortunately my boys have the worst anxiety smh.

Where are you staying? We have quit trying to surprise the kids on vacation. Lol. It never goes as planned. My kids are more excited when we get to talk about it and plan together.

We are doing a split stay AOA and AKL-CL.

Yeah last year I surprised them with the Trip to Disney which was fine but because I didn't talked to them before they were upset we didn't have more resort time built in for the pool and too many park days.

So this year less park days 2 full resort days I let them help me most of the plans but I choose the resorts and since one is like our dream resort I thought surprising them would be nice but I'm not so sure now.

Lol I'm thinking my older 2 have iPhones and my daughter is already linked to the Disney App and my youngest has an ipod so I will let them see all the resort details.

Geez I was going to surprise them with a Mediterranean cruise next year non Disney though might have to rethink it. Maybe 16, 11 and 7 is too old to surprise.

Thank you- still lots around today! So I picked some up as my son loves this ride.

My son has anxiety too- and prefers to not be surprised by stuff. But Disney he is ok with not knowing every detail now as he's comfortable enough to not fret over details (as much). But we are staying in a new-to-him resort and I'm not saying anything ahead of time unless he asks.

It's hard to surprise teens. I want to take my middle kid on a surprise trip in September for HHN (we got Premier Universal APs in June and they come with a HHN ticket). Problem is school and band schedule. I've found a pocket of days where I think I can pull it off- there shouldn't be too many tests at end of first month of school right?? I don't want to wait until school starts as flights are cheap right now!

Yeah it's getting harder and harder my oldest and my youngest actually are ok with not knowing every detail it's mostly my middle one and then he kind of riles up the youngest.

I think September is fine to pull them out of school with low impact it gets harder and harder mid year with all the testing.

I'm hoping for a Slinky Dog dump of FPs before our August trip. I do have Aliens one day, but would love to be able to swap my TSM for Slinky Dog. One of our HS days is still a 7 am opening. We did a 7am EMH at AK last year, so we could do that again if my kids really want to do it. We would love to do it, but it's no FOP, so not sure if they will want to get up for that.

Also hoping to be able to bump up a 7DMT for our 60+1, it's 2:40 and I would really love to get closer to noon as we usually head out of the parks in the afternoon. We shall see, I will keep trying through that day.

I got SDD 3 times lol. I mean we’re there 12 days and i wanted backup passes in case it’s down, weather, etc. A consequence though is no TSMM.

Like you, I have found that surprise trips are very difficult! I gave up after the last time when i was repeatedly asked multiple questions about where we were going or what it was like...they were relentless :crutches:

So now, I let them know our plans and include them but I reserve one event/special treat as a surprise...like reservations at Blue Bayou, a fireworks dessert party, hard ticket event, etc. It has made the wait much more bearable for all of us. This time we have one or two surprises plan which makes for less anxiety for them and me :)

We’ve always shared plans with our kids in the past, but are surprising them this year. We’re traveling with my brother and his family (their first time, ever!), so will surprise all of the kids when we’re all together two weeks before we leave.

Hello again! I have a logistical question. Is it insane to have an 11:40 fp for The Seas With Nemo and Friends and a 12pm lunch adr at Akershus? We’re doing the club level fastpasses so we have one booked every hour - the one thing I didn’t consider with this perk is that it makes the schedule a little rigid...

I believe I read elsewhere on these forums that a FP window has a grace period of up to 5 minutes prior or 15 minutes after (someone else can confirm this) - so IIRC "The Seas" was not that long of a ride, so if you walk in at 11:35am you'll walk out around 11:45-11:50am and it's not that long of a walk over to Norway, so the times sound tight but do-able (especially if an ADR also has a small grace period). Again, others can chime in but it sounds workable. Good luck!

It’s not impossible… after the fast past right before that try to refresh and get a little earlier maybe
