The Official April 2012 Car Rental Thread

I was able to book Thrifty for April 8th through the 17th for $343.00 last week. (Mid size or up) I have noticed that instead of the prices dropping more, they seem to have gone up since then. :confused3 (I used the 7% off coupon )

Try Expedia.ca and you can get a prepaid rate of $178CAN inc taxes for a midsize with Dollar or $188 for a fullsize. US residents can book there as well.

DISMOMAMY...try Budget using Travelocity code x474200 and coupon MUGZ029.

We are renting a minivan from April 12-22 but picking up at Sanford airport and returning to West Palm Beach for $467 with tax.

I think MCO rate is a little cheaper.

Good luck!!

These are the codes I used. I booked it a few months ago just to make sure I had something locked in.
I got a mini van from April 7 to 14 for a total of $302 (inclusive of all taxes and fees)

Are you going to Entertainment.com and trying through that website? I used the $25 off code for Alamo that's on the Entertainment.com website. I'm down to $348 or something like that so far for a minivan for ten days.

I would be willing to see if I can find something cheaper for you if you feel comfortable PMing me your travel dates and departure city/where you want to pick up the car.

I tried again this morning and got $569 without tax and about $710 with taxes...

I'm sending you a PM to see what you get. Thanks for the offer.

I entered April 7 to 17 at Budget just now with the codes x474200 and mugz029 and came up with a mini van for $472 (including all taxes). You'd get a Dodge Caravan or similar model.

Hi all, booked last night with Budget, but am holding out for Alamo or National:

April 28th thru May 7th, MCO, Intermediate SUV, $275, with $25 taken off upon return.

BCD: D454300
Coupon: MUWZ023

Codes are available to everyone. Not too shabby.

I'm glad it's not just me. Although, I'm sorry you wasted money on the Entertainment book.

Do you have to be with Alamo? We had good luck with Budget last year. Code x474200 is a public code. I can almost guarantee it will be better than $600. So far, my rate is $472.00 with taxes for 10 days but I was trying to do better with the entertainment book but that's not happening.

We strongly prefer Alamo because it's so much easier to just walk to the car, hop in & deal with the fast check-out at the booth. Both of our kids have autism & it's way more hassle than it's worth to try to stop at one of those counters. It would have to be a really big savings to make it worth it for us. I'll still check out Budget & see what I can find. Thanks!

DisMomAmy: I just put in APril 12-22 picking up at your airport in New Hampshire, and got it for $452.31. You can probably do better than that if you keep looking, but that's worth a look. I went to Alamo on Entertainment.com, and then chose the $25 off offer.

PMd you... we're picking up at TPA on 4/19 and returning to MCO on 4/29. I have been looking through entertainment.com without any luck.

I'll give it a try & consider it if it's a lot better than I can get on Alamo. Thanks!

Hi:
We never waited at the counter for Budget at MCO in the past. We signed up for their insider program or whatever it's called and went straight out to the garage. Some people have said you need to stop at the counter so they can copy your cc but we just walked out to the garage and handed the man out there our paperwork.

Yes, that's the exact price I have with my Budget reservation. I'm still hoping to get it lower at another company. We had no issues using this code last year. Easy! Easy!

Thank you!!! I was able to use this for May 10 - 20th. Mine was an intermediate SUV for $311 all inclusive except the $25 taken off upon paying. So, $286. Definitely less than I had been getting by a lot!!

Ok, I looked up that BCD. It's supposed to be for travelocity until the end of February BUT is gives a whopper of a discount after that!

I got 347 total for inter SUV April 13-24, however the bcd is listed as 'Wendie's' on my reservation. What Wendie's?? Wendy's spelled wrong?

Base price of economy car was $215 and then Compact up to Full was the same price at $251 before taxes. Weird!

There was also no option to pre-pay on the screen either.

I made this reservation as a back up to my Advantage reservation.

And now I feel I need another back-up to this one. lol

Glitchy!

Thanks for all the great advice!!! You guys are awesome!!

I signed up for the Budget RapidRez program & can save about $100! :thumbsup2

Now my question is, where do we pay? The only choices are "at rental counter" or "online". Will choosing "online" charge me now? I don't really want to pay now & if I do, does that lock me into this rental, even if I find something lower? But I definitely don't want to stop at the counter... Help!

You sound like me! Every time a new code gets posted and I get a low rate I'm skeptical it's legit or not! lol This is the best rate I've gotten for our dates so I'm taking it! I'm getting $311 before the coupon code. Does anyone know if you need an actual printed coupon for the MUWZ023?

I looked up this Budget code and found a page with all the terms and conditions on it. It's good for anyone renting before June 15th 2012. Here's the link with the rest of the info: http://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/deals/wendie.html?&ICID=HP_MB_WKN_wendie81117

Oh and the Wendie is referring to the actress Wendie Malick, her photo is on the top of the page that I linked to above. She must be a new face for promoting budget rental car?? lol

I just tried the Budget codes: BCD: D454300 & Coupon: MUWZ023 for Mar 31 to Apr 10. For compact, total $1085!!! :scared1:

yep unfortunately that is listed as a blackout period for this code :( per the terms and conditions:

March 29 – April 8, 2012: Florida and Arizona;

Thanks very much for the Budget codes - managed to get a compact for $171. for the end of May. Love the DIS!!!!!

Well, I dropped the minivan reservation with Budget and went with the SUV deal - Wendi's. Wow! Over a $100 savings.

I also used MUGZ029 before I looked it up. It appears to be a Costco number. Should I change my reservation as I don't have a Costco card?

What about MUWZ023? Does anyone know if you need a coupon for that one?

Thanks.

So I emailed Budget to find out the deal with skipping the counter. They said that since it's the first time we'd be doing it, we would have to stop at the counter to get our licenses & credit card on file. Then NEXT TIME we could skip the counter. Unfortunately you have to rent 3 times in a year to stay active so it won't work for us. :headache: So now we just have to decide if it's worth the huge headache to save $100. I suspect we will, but I really hope Alamo comes down so we don't have to decide.

You could go to your local Budget counter beforehand to get the info on file and then you wouldn't have to stop at the counter in Orlando when you pick up the car.

Ooooo!! Great idea!!! Thanks for the suggestion - I never would have thought of that. We'll be near the airport in a couple weeks... we can stop in & get registered. Small airport, easy parking, should be a piece of cake!
