*** The Official 2014 - DLR -July Thread ***(We All Have Been There & Back Home)

Hmm, I don't think I follow. There's a group to join? I thought people were just talking about what to expect in July. We don't have day-to-day plans like some folks do. Here's all I really know:

July 26 - fly in; spend afternoon in DTD
July 27-31 - 5 day park-hopper; I think we're playing it by ear
August 1 - fly out; be sad

Trip includes myself, wife, and 2 boys, and my parents, brothers, and sis-in-laws. We're staying at the GCH for the first time and are all very excited about it. Should be a great trip!

Chrisfilm, we will at least have some meals planned!!

Actually, looks like my mom has already been here as greewe. Lulz. :)

EDIT: So is Matterhorn really supposed to be down?

:cool1: Glad to have your family on the board...

:goodvibes

Oh no to Matterhorn being out of action! That's disappointing. And Finding Nemo is undergoing major works and is out too, is that right? I've already pre-warned my kids about that one.

Just booked our hotel after MUCH researching. The Candy Cane Inn. I got so utterly bamboozled with options. I hope I've made the right decision. Would love to have booked one of the Disney hotels but unfortunately the NZ$-US$ exchange rate is not fabulous and I'm sure I can think of lots of things to spend that extra $$ on :)
Got your Hotel Updated
Can I ask another possibly dumb question? Those of you who have specified on page 1 where you will be dining, are those tentative plans? Reservations don't open til 60 days prior, is that right or am I totally missing something important?
You are correct.. it's our preference and when it's time to make our ADR's - Watch our Disney, because we are on our way...
Thanks

Add us! I can't believe I missed seeing this earlier!

DD10, DH, and I, possibly bringing DA (my Dear Aunt) with us for our 1-year wedding anniversary. DA's been eager to take DD to DLR for a while now, and she (DA) hasn't been there since DCA was nothing more than a gleam in Mickey's eye ;)

Dates: Tentatively, we'll be there 7/23-7/27 or so.

Lodging: Not sure where we are staying yet. Looking for a suite, but trying to find a suite that's not $200/night! DD won't sleep if others are awake in the room, so a suite is basically our only choice.

Meal Planning: Breakfast at the hotel, as always. We'll be in the parks 3 days for lunch and dinner. Lunches are corn dogs (the best, as far as DH is concerned, and he would eat them all day and night at DLR if I let him). Dinners are going to be places we've never tried before, I think, but I'm not sure where yet.

:welcome:Dis Family and :thanks: for joining our July Disney Group.

I agree with your Husband about the Corn Dogs.. If DL Corn Dogs are as good as the WDW Corn Dogs.. DD and I will be very happy..

I will add your information to the front page. I will be looking for your updates as you find the right accommodations for you and your family.

Hi there! We'll be at DLH July 12-17 celebrating my niece's high school graduation!

I sympathise. My kids are 6 and 8 so we have the same issue. We're planning a three week trip to California and Vancouver so lots of hotel research being done for our various ports of call. And it's really hard to find family-friendly accommodation. Most places seem to have two queen beds to a room and that's about it.

I don't understand why more hotels don't do what the LEGOLAND hotel does with kids in bunk beds in a very small area off to one side and a queen bed for the parents in the main part of the room. Makes life much easier when you have kids needing to go to bed earlier than the adults. That sort of room set-up is very hard to find, in my experience so far.

When we are at Disneyland in July, we are going to be staying at the Candy Cane Inn. I couldn't find that elusive perfect combination of family-friendly room set-up at a reasonable price and within walking distance to the parks. But I figured that actually, while we are at Disneyland, the kids will be going to bed late anyway - after Fantasmic, World of Colour, fireworks etc, so the issue of everyone having to go to bed at the same time isn't as painful as it would usually be. You may find the same thing with your 10 year old, unless you and your DH are night owls ;)

Check out Stanford Inn and suites...its a little further away but you can get on the ART and I have also heard you can walk to the toy story lot and take the tram for free :) you can get a kids suite with 2 baths for $133/night

My dh and I get to spend a day at DL/DCA without the kids in April! He won a contest with his work (AT&T) and we will be at a posh spa/beach resort in Laguna Beach. One of the free excursions was Disneyland…so we jumped on it! We haven't been to a Disney Park without the kids since we were first married. The kids are sad, but I told my dd that we are on an information mission to find out where the new Fantasy Faire is, where Mickey's Magical Map and Frozen characters are. Those are all new since we were last there in 2012. She seems a little better with that! I am so excited!!!!

If you could change my stay from GCH to DLH? July 11-14 and before that, Hollywood from July 4-8 and GCH from July 8-11. Add Goofy's Kitchen for breakfast on July 13 and Ralph Brennan's for dinner on July 11, Blue Bayou for lunch on July 11. DL on July 11 and 12 and DCA on July 13 and 14.

Looks like Candy Cane Inn is pretty popular! We'll be there our last park day, Aug 1st. There's just too many choices, and that one has outstanding reviews. We seriously wanted a suite as well since we've got two teens, but well just make do. August 2 will be our beach day; we'll be in Laguna Beach, and our last night is on the Queen Mary. SO exciting!! I love going on solo trips with my DH to DLR! Experiencing the park alone is SO different than when you have kids. It's still fun either way. but it's nice to relax more and just really enjoy one anothers company! Have a wonderful trip
