~*~The OFFICIAL 2014 Dates Thread - Come Join Us!~*~

We ate there in 2011 and it was one of our favorite meals. It's on our must do again list.

This is encouraging! I haven't looked into it much recently - I don't even know what characters are there. Can anyone update me? Any rumors of Doc and/or Sofia coming?

Is there a possibility of a discount during the time you'll be there that may ease your budget a little bit? :goodvibes

Well, I'm using the discounted room rate currently for this year so although the room only discount will probably be available next summer (fingers crossed!!) with the price increase, it may end up being more. I think the split will make more financial sense. I prefer to get there and settled for the week but if a split will allow us to enjoy a deluxe, I could suck it up. :lmao: I usually take a break mid-week anyway so that would be the day we would make the move.

New here with my very first post.:wave2: Although admittedly I have been stalking the boards for a few weeks. DH has given me the go ahead to plan our first vacation to Disney with the kids (who will be 7 & 4 at the time of travel) :cool1:. I LOVE Disney and we used to go all the time growing up because my dad played in a yearly golf tournament. However; I haven't been since 2004. Anyway, I know for sure we are going in 2014, I just don't know when. I am leaning towards the fall because DH and DS have significant seasonal allergies and I'm worried about pollen in spring. I do know that we are definitely staying at the BC. We always stayed there while growing up and I love being able to walk to Epcot. Soooo....I have subscribed to the thread, I just need to figure out the best time to go. I've never been to the world when its hot or crowded so I'd like to keep that trend going. The tournament was the first weekend in March and we went at the end of April in 2004. We are pulling the oldest out of school so we are pretty flexible.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard Dis Friend. We all have one thing in common. We Love Disney.:lmao: We are July Vacationers.

We were looking at 14 days in August because I was adding in the water parks. If we go during the school year we are looking at about 10 days. I think we are going to be settling on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and coming home the Monday after. I can provide them with up to 3 days on a sick note without having a doctor's note backing it up. They would miss the Monday and Tuesday and the following Monday.

As much as I like June we still couldn't go until half way through the month because of school. I love how my kids are mine to make decisions for except when they can miss school.

:welcome: to the DIS and to our group! :goodvibes

Have you checked out the crowd calendar for the Fall months 2013? That might give you some idea of when lower crowd times are and what the temps would be like for the months you are considering.

First post, but frequent lurker!! We have settled on our 3rd family trip to WDW, but 1st extended family vacation of any kind! Nov. 21-27 2014...toying with FW cabins or possibly
renting 2 campers and staying at FW campground. Could possibly end up in 3 rooms at a value resort, but we won't do DP so kitchen facilities are almost a must. Cast includes myself (36 at time of travel), DH, DS (16), DS (10), DD (7), my parents (58 and 56) and the in-laws (58 and 57). I LOVE the Mouse and cannot wait for the grandparents to experience this with my kids!! Just got back from DL with a school group and was thrilled to find this thread so I could start planning! I'm already driving DH crazy:-)

When I began planing our 2014 trip to Disney I was positive we were were going in October (and I really wish we still could :(). However as I spoke to the high school two of my children will be attending, pulling them out for vacation is not a possibility - they will fail them for unexcused absenses.

So I began planning for August, the two weeks before they go back to school - August 10-23. I am worried however about the heat in August during this time. We were outside yesterday for the 4th - about 4 hours in the morning (9-1) and then from 4:30-10:00 yesterday afternoon/evening. This is how we would be traveling at the parks if we keep August. By the end of the day yesterday everyone was miserable. So I am again taking a look at our travel dates.

I have to travel on schoool breaks because of the high school situation. I am looking at December 17-28. This puts at Disney during Christmas which is said to be insanely busy. The other option is the week of Thanksgiving and staying until Tuesday of the following week.

This is our first trip to Disney as a family, and probably our last big family vacation. My oldest will be in his second year of college, my daughter will be in her Sr. year of high school, my other high schooler will be a freshman, and my youngest will be first grade.

Anybody have any input that will help me settle on dates. Thank You:confused3

We went last year at Christmas 17th through the 22nd. It was great, the weather was nice except it did get coldish last two days of our trip (but it wss snowing back home so can't complain too much) . We just got back from Disney about 3 weeks ago and it was the first time we were absolutely miserable. We've been two other times in the summer but this time the heat was just unbearable. And the lines for everything were long, even fast passes had some long lines. The line for a Dole Whip was over 30 minutes and other food places had extremely long lines. We waited 20 minutes just for our food at Peco Bill's not including time waiting to order. I would definitely pick Christmas time over August, plus its just so beautiful then. The longest wait I remember was for Belle's enchanted tales and it was a 60 minute wait but New Fantasy land had only been open a few weeks.

Does anyone have any advice to offer about choosing AOA family suite or POR? We are trying to decide which resort to stay at for our March trip. We have stayed at POR and loved it, but think we might want to try a family suite. Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

I love POR Riverside and will likely be staying there again for my next trip. I would LOVE to stay at AoA for my younger 2 children but from what I hear, there is a lot of sensory stimulation there that would not work for my oldest son on the autism spectrum. POR is a tight fit for a family of 5 and it would be nice to have a suite but the grounds at POR are so nice and relaxing, I think I'm making the right decision. Im hoping everyone will be so tired, they are just hoping to crash back at the room anyway! The boat ride to DTD is nice too.
I think it comes down to how much time u plan on spending ant the resort, how old your kids are and whether anyone is going to be sleeping (naps) while others are awake.

Move us out of the May column please!

Decided to skip the hassle of college reunions and two different spring exam schedules and just do a Christmas trip! :santa:

First time staying on-site and first time at Disney for Christmas decorations!!! :yay:

(And last true family vacation for oldest dd -- she'll begin graduate school the following semester!)

So put us down for December 12-20 - AOA family suite

Wasnt it just a few days ago that you had the May dates all worked out? :lmao: There are a few of us on here that LOVE Disney at Christmas!!! I am really going to miss it this year. If you have any questions, ask.

We have never been able to go during Christmas Holiday's. Heard it's spectacular. Hope we will be able to do it one day.

I know!!! :lmao:

Hubby finally said "We've done May at Disney. Why not do Christmas? You've wanted to go at Christmas for at least five years. Just do it."

So let me know about Christmas!!!! :santa:

How crowded is the 12th - 20th? Christmas is on a Thursday (I think) so I'm hoping that the week before that won't be too crowded!

We want to do MVMCP. How far out do they publish the dates?

Looking forward to the Candlelight Processional and Osbourne Lights too! Anything else?

Yay! That's awesome for you. We went this past Christmas and it wasn't Nearly as crowded as our trip in June was. We went the 17th through the 22nd. It was nice weather not too hot we had two cool days at the end of the trip but since it was snowing at home we tried not to complain.
I also did the MVMCP, it was nice and the parade was great. But if we go again at Christmas we won't do it again unless our girls are older. They were just exhausted and ready to leave right after the parade so I don't feel we got our moneies worth. I think they relate them pretty earlier they've been out for a while for this year's.

We really enjoyed Hollywood Studios Osbourne lights. And the fake snow there and main street. And all the resorts decorations were gorgeous. We stayed at AoA and thought it was beautifully fine up. Nothing was really over the top everything was perfect. We loved the big tree in the GF and the large gingerbread house.

I booked our trip in Nov. 2011 and planned all year long. We even were lucky enough to get ressies at BOG. Good luck and happy planning.

I think those dates will be great! We were there last year the 15-22 and the only time we really noticed crowds was Friday night the 21st at Epcot.

MVMCP--I want to say the dates come out in May, but I am not 100% on that. I was really sick that night so we rode some rides, watched Wishes and left. The parade is supposed to be really good.

Cinderella Castle Lights is my favorite thing!!! They do a little show when they turn the lights on. It is cute if you can see it, but not something to arrange the day around.

Osborne Lights--DH's favorite thing (and a close second for me). Amazing!!!! Pictures do not do it justice!!! We saw them 3 different nights. :lovestruc

CP--In 2011 DB and I waited in line for 2.5 hours to see NPH as our narrator. So good! DH had no interest last year so we skipped it. The dinner package is recommended if you know you want to see it, but dont want to stand in line.

Holiday storytellers are fun too. I have only seen a couple of them. We just dont spend much time in Epcot.

I think every resort has a tree and some decorations. GF has the gingerbread house and BC has a carousel. CR and Poly arent super exciting, but they are so easy to see if you are doing GF anyway. WL has a huge tree and is just so cozy and warm. The campers at Fort Wilderness do tons of decorations. There are carriage rides you can take to see them. Maybe you can ride the bus too?

Each park has a giant tree too. Not sure if they are still there, but in Camp Minnie-Mickey in AK there are Christmas trees for different characters. Very cute!!

Oh and Santa Goofy! He was at the Osborne Lights last year. I think before that he has been at AK.

Why am I going in February again?! :rotfl:

Okay, we are tentatively changing our dates. :) I am going to attempt to run the Jingle Jungle 5K (is that what it is called??), and that is in early November, apparently. We are going to try for November 3 - 14, and probably be staying offsite. I am sure plans will change again, but this is what is going on for now! :)
