The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I emailed them the results in the body of the e-mail along with a link to the page where the results are posted. Got a response just a few business hours later.

I've read horror stories of the congestion in the general corrals and I want to stay out of it. Is the 2:45 (12:35 min/mi) pacing a hard line or is there room for improvement? My wife and I just ran a 10mi run this morning at 12:47min/mi. Would they take this for placement out of general? I'm already looking for a 10k to run to pace myself out of it. But if I don't, I was wondering if this would be good enough.

Great job. Remember it's only May. You have a lot of time to improve your pace for November.

I'd keep running, keep getting better and find a 10k in Sept to use for corral placement. I'm using a 10k from last year if I don't PR in the meantime, but my DH is using a 10k in Sept when I know he'll be running faster than he is now as he prepares for the half.

Oh, one tip I've read that has really helped me improve my pace. Use short runs to improve pace, long runs to improve distance. You need to do at least both every week (when you can) to train for a distance run. I'm no trainer and have only been running for a year, so advice with a grain of salt. If you have a real training program go with that not me.

Good luck!

Will be running with my Samsung phone. Any advice on what type of belt I could get to fit my phone into that doesn't consist of having to wear an arm band?

I ran with one in the Jan half. I bought a belt just for it, just bring the phone to the store and try it out. My Samsung Charge fit in every one I tried. Ended up with some Nathan pocket belt. But I didn't even really need it. I ended up running with my phone in my hand so I could take pictures. The W&D might be different because it's dark, and it's something I never would have done on a training run or even other races, but on the Disney race it just worked.

First run of the season for me today. 5k Penguin Run. I was disappointed with my time, 40:27, but my training was waylaid the past few weeks AND our temperatures skyrocketed 30 degrees Celsius this week and it was 36 C when we ran this morning. May not sound hot, but seeing as how it snowed here last week, it's a bit of a change! Lol. Anyway, next 5k race in two weeks and I REALLY hope to break 40 on that one.

For the last several years I have wanted to do this and every time I miss out and it gets sold out! Ack maybe next year! I am local and a cast member so I have NO excuse whatsoever....... Good luck to all of you who are running! :)

It has been a long time since I posted on the disboards, but I am very excited that my DH and I will be running in this race. It will be both of our first half's (and only my second race ever). I do have a few questions, but will read through the post and if I can't find answers I'll post later.

Can't wait until November!

I've contacted Disney awhile back about this and haven't heard back.

Has anyone heard either way if they will or won't accommodate the runners who are participating in this half by pushing the deadline back to email run disney their proof of time for the marathon in Jan?

Would anyone mind if I went on a little injury-vent-pity-party here for just a minute? Please?

After literally two solid years of pt to rehab a v bad knee injury and one year of rebuilding to "come back" and run a half (last years wine and dine), I am having rotten luck this spring with injuries! I had a beautiful march. Everything was clicking along great! Then. In April, I strained my rotator cuff, then I "crammed" for a race and subsequently got shin splints which I'm now aware happens whenever I add too much mileage or speed too quickly. So, I'm in pt for my shoulder, trying to slowly build up mileage so I avoid shin splints, sloooooowly reintroducing some pt and xt for my knee and shins and low and behold, tonight, I pulled who knows what in the top of my foot while GARDENING!!! I swear if I sign up for princess and tink (as I really want to), I'm going to sit in a bubble for 4 months except for supervised workouts so that I don't incur any stupid injuries!!!

I just want to run.

It wasn't even fun type of gardening yet. I was just weeding. I was going to plant this weekend... After a nice run.

I'm not clumsy. I'm not inactive. I just have some major bad luck this month. Thank goodness w&d is still 5+ months away....

Ok, rant over. Thank you guys. I knew you would get it.

Anytime Figs! Just wait, my time is coming, I'm sure! :goodvibes

I love the Clif Shot Bloks (with or without caffeine) They are sold at Targets (around Disney too) and even my local grocery store. They are about $1. I bought a belt at the expo- really slim, holds just a phone, separate pouch for keys and 2 spots to slide gels. It even has 2 reusable clips for race bibs. When I ran last Nov I had the shot bloks too high and ended up getting a "rug" burn from the top of the blok rubbing my forearm as I was pumping my arms. It was really weird/

I used that same belt for my last half. I don't carry a full hydration belt during races since I'm fine with where the water stops are placed. I usually only use it during runs longer than 5 miles or if I'm running where I know there isn't anyplace to get a drink (parks, my house, etc). I use the Honey Stinger chews and found the loops weren't flexible enough to carry an entire pouch. Since I only eat 2-3 at a time, I just broke the pouch down into a few smaller pill pouches I found at CVS, and it worked great! MY DH prefers the Gu Blocks, but I found them to be way too sweet. Plus the Honey Stingers are naturally sweetened with honey(?).

BTW...157 days until blast off!!:cool1: :yay: :scared1:

Are you thinking of the Princess Half? There is no deadline for the Wine & Dine for submitting times. I think that deadline was implemented newly for the Princess..... and going forward.

They're talking about Marathon Weekend in January...times need to be submitted the week before the W&D (or something), but a lot of people are running W&D and were hoping to use that time for corral placement in January.

Ooooh, ok. Yhea ,now that I read it that way- it makes sense! :)

They are probably too busy with all us crazy Tinker Bell and Princess runners emailing them about Princess-Gate 2014 (i.e. the big Active.com registration boondoggle last weekend.) :lmao: Hopefully they will address the POT deadline issue for the Marathon weekend runners soon though. I think they should move it to let you submit the W&D time. Maybe try calling? Seems to get a slightly better response time than emailing lately.

Schoonersky - That is a great run, be happy! You did it :thumbsup2 and it is much harder in the heat. Plus it gives you a goal now for your next one, You can do it!! :cool1: Can't wait to hear your results!

Well I got my last training run in this morning before my first half on Sunday! :scared::p Nice 3.17 miles and I almost beat my best 5K by a few seconds, but I did not take my inhaler this morning and my lungs were bothering me a bit. I have been using a 2:10/:42 interval and this time I went to a 1:30/30 interval and improved my per minute times, but put a hurting on my lungs :lmao: I will definitely make sure I have it with me on Sunday. :thumbsup2

Anyone doing anything at 12noon today? :confused3:rotfl: I know a few of us from here are going to be signing up for Glass Slipper. Can't wait. Such pressure of signing up at noon since it seems to be a pretty popular race.

Are you in? I signed up for the Tink and the Glass Slipper Challenge. Apparently all those Disney vacation miles have been leading up to this: running 45.5 miles through Disney parks in a 15 week time frame...:faint: I know it's not the Dopey, but for me, it's pretty close to crazy!

I didn't make it at noon, but how about 2:45?! :rotfl: Just officially registered for the GSC! :cool1:

And Congrats on Tink. I want to do that one someday.

I know! The bling is what did it to me for the phm. I mean, 5 medals in 5 weeks for 3 races, I like a good "bargain" :)

Ok. Off to do some base mileage building.... :)
