The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I just booked my lodging for Wine and Dine 2013! Now I just need to wait a week or so to register for the race. Wish I'd done it at the Princess Race Expo.

Hey Guys!
I know they ask you if you are a Disney Visa cardholder when you register, but do you have to pay with that card? And is there any advantage to paying with (or even having) that card?
Thanks!

Called today to get quotes and maybe book, but I made a noob error and found out I can't book my package until the tickets go up. My bad. She did tell me though that the home resorts were the same as last year, by and large, so now I have to figure out if I want to do All-Star (which I dread the thought of doing) or if I think I can scramble and afford CBR. I wish POP had been a choice... Life would have been so much easier.

Wish that they would have had early sign-ups at Tinkerbell or did they and I missed it.
Cannot wait to go back to the world for a run, IMO so much better organized.
I booked room early at Saratoga, now thinking about switching to Boardwalk, or just sticking with SSR, we like it there.
Still on fence about 5K, DW is not sure she will want to run :(

Dying for some nicer weather, oh wait there is a possible snow storm coming:confused3

SO tired of running in 15-20 mph winds and a real feel temperature of under 30.

Got the Shamrock 8K and Half in 14 days, cannot wait, here is hoping that Va Beach is warm.

Keep on training.

Excuse the ignorance on my part. I have never attended the Wine and Dine festival and had a few questions concerning this bit:

Your race registration includes access to this extraordinary celebration which includes entry to over 25 Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival kiosks

For those that have run and brought spectators along in your party if in addition to paying to run in the event and get access to the Finish Line Party do we and our spectators within our group have to pay to sample the food/beverages or is this all included as one charge when we all register?

Also, is there an area to have your medal engraved?

Yes. To both.

The finish line party is basically as if Epcot didn't close for the day. You have to pay for whatever you want to eat or drink. There are not freebies given out as if it were a Christmas party at MK. In years past they have given racers a $10 gift card to use during the after party (or whenever they want in reality) toward food and drink. The after party ticket is admission.

There will be a booth to have your medal engraved in Epcot. Its location will be pointed out on the map of the after party. I think it is around $20 and was on the promenade as you enter World Showcase last year.

Is anyone else doing this race Solo? I think I will be going alone, and even if I don't, DH/DS will not stay up to watch me finish.

I'm pretty sure i will be solo. I hope DH, DS and DD will stay up to watch me finish, but you never know :)

Solo here, unless I can convince my BF to come down with me. We are sailing on the Disney Magic at the end of October, so the race is less than two weeks after we fly back north. He's not a huge Disney fan, so that much Disney in such a short amount of time may be too much to ask.

For thos of you who might've done this before, is MVMCP up and running by this time?

We're considering doing this (original plan wasn't until 2014) and wondering if they've started by then.

Run the race on Sat, then use the party on Sun for our MK time!

MVMCP dates haven't been released yet but, historically, it begins the Friday night before the race. We are hoping to attend during our trip too. (We'll be staying the for the week after the race.) It is definitely one of the draws for us to do this race.

We're planning on flying in on Friday. Wonder if we'll be ok doing the party on Friday night, sleeping in/doing nothing on Saturday day and racing Saturday night.

I was hoping for a Sunday date but I think they keep those for closer to Christmas.

Host Resort list from last year? Does anyone remember if Contemporary is one of the host resorts? I can't remember.

The countries are closed though, right? No going back over falls or finding Donald in Mexico, correct?

Seeing as how last year was the first year for the race to be held at that time, I am not sure "historically" fits as there is no precedent set. It would be nice if that is the case again this year though.

The countries were open. Most attractions in Epcot were open. For sure being tossed "back back over the falls" or chasing Señor Donald around México were available.

I'm not sure about being able to take a nap in the countries with movies though

Wow, for some reason I thought they were closed. That's pretty cool then... How bad are the lines?

Not terrible. Some attractions were virtual walk ons. Soarin' was only like 15 mins last year. (Getting to the attraction was harder than waiting for it--downhill slopes like that KILL me after a race)

LoL! Awesome.

Call me insane, but I'm dreaming of doing the race then doing Soarin, oh, about 50 times. Like I said, for me the victory of the night will be crossing the line and just being in the park after-hours. I've done MK after-hours, but EPCOT is my favorite park and I've never done an after-hours event there. I'm pumped to just be there.
