The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I won't be doing the Wine & Dine Half Marathon this year, but I plan on doing it next year in 2014! I just had Baby #3 about 2 weeks ago and so I think a Disney Run is great motivation to start training soon!

So I had to share my running experience tonight - it was so bizarre! I'm out doing my Thursday night run ( I had to skip it last night ) when as I enter the woods I come across 6 or 7 skater dudes. I of course per judge them as hoodlums. As I get closer to them, the one with the bob marley shirt starts coming towards me and says something. Can't he see I have my headphones on - the universal sign for " don't talk to me " and why is he approaching me anyhow? I'm and old lady (45) and a slow runner. He says " working hard?" I said " yes?" He says " you running hard?" I said " not really, I'm very slow ". He said " come on!" And runs with me, at a much faster pace and for longer than my intervals ...I kept up, my pride wouldnt let me quit. He said " great job!" And turned to go back with his friends. I said, thanks for the encouragement and gave him a high five, that last part was probably lame but I really appreciated him running with me.
I had a really great run the rest of the way home with a great big smile :) Keep up the great work everyone especially you old and slow ladies.

Love this story! Way to go! And, you are not old and you are faster than every other person sitting on their couch :). Thank you so much for sharing.

It's so early. Trying to wake up for my run this morning. 5-6 miles, here I come.

I feel ya!;) After work last night, I was so tired that I climbed into bed at 9pm...but didn't fall asleep until 11. When the alarm went off at 4am, I could not resist the urge to snooze it...and again...and again. By the time I managed to wake up, it was almost 5am:scared1:. Oops! I laced up the shoes and finally hit the road at 5:20. I went out for a wimpy little 2 miles. I walked the first .25 then ran the rest without using the intervals. I was in a hurry because I leave for work at 6:30 and I usually get up at 5:30 without a run.

The throat hurts like crazy, but only when I swallow. It isn't really "deep" so it doesn't effect my voice or my ability to talk (much to the dismay of my co-workers:rotfl2:.) The fever is gone and the headache too. I can deal with the sore throat and it doesn't lower my energy level so as long as it goes away, I will be fine:goodvibes.

I'm off to work now. Maybe I will be more successful in my attempt to get up early tomorrow:lmao:.

Peachygreen - Good job on getting that run in. :thumbsup2 I love being able to go on with my day knowing my workout/run is done

Kristenrice - Even thought you were not feeling it, you got your run in! Woo hoo! :cool1: I will probably be out there with you tomorrow morning. I was all ready to go at 6 this morning and my Nike app on my phone would not run! It kept shutting down. So frustrating. I can't run without it! :lmao: I can't just go for a 'run', I need to know my pace, my distance and I like to keep track of calories and distance for the month and the total distance since I started using the Nike app. Going to a friend's over night so hopefully I will wake up early and can go then.

Speaking of the Nike app, what does everyone use to track their mileage? Just wondering :confused3;)

I love my garmin forerunner 10... I can't run without it anymore, lol :)

Oh peachy.... I had this same conversation w myself. Except it was 8am when I had it.... No clue how u run in the pre-dawn hours!

I just finished 9.5. Miles 6-7 were not pretty but after my fuel break, I finished strong. Can't believe I've come this far!!

I use Runkeeper on my iPhone. That way my time stats and music are all in one place.

I use runkeeper too. Works for what i need and is free! Also use the forerunner 10 to time my run/walk intervals. Just made it to DC for the Biggest Loser 10k tomorrow. My hubby has been feeling pretty crappy the last couple days. Hopefully he'll turn around so he can enjoy the run. I think it's supposed to be hot tomorrow but still hoping I can finish in 1:12.

I have a garmin watch I use during my runs but afterwards I enter my stats and any notes (how I felt, how hot it was etc) into a "running log free" app in my phone. I don't usually run w my phone so this works for me. Plus I run on the treadmill too without my garmin. It's not a really advanced app, but I like it! I also keep a paper log too bc I'm old school and would die if I lost all my data! Lol.

I use the Garmin Forerunner 210 and MapMyRun app. I love that app! They also have a MapMyRide app for riding on cross-training days. Both are free (there are pay "MVP" versions) and they communicate with each other. The GPS on the app is more accurate than my watch but I keep my intervals and HR monitor on my watch.

Ran my first 5k EVER this morning! I told myself I was going to be happy with anything under 40 minutes...finished at 37:01 and felt strong so I was really happy. Happy Saturday everyone!!

I use RunKeeper. I love the ease of the app.

Four mile hike this morning that started with a 2,000 ft climb in the first .88 miles. Tomorrow will definitely be a walk day.

Kudos to everyone who got their runs in today.

I use the Nike app too, and love it. Not a huge fan of using the Nike app on my phone, and hate carting my phone with me all the time. I have a little nano (like a small square size) with the Nike app on it, and use that just about always. It clips to my shirt. I also have a standard generic Timex watch, just for keeping track of time.

Got 4 miles in today and my time was 2 minutes improved, almost back to my pace last fall when things weren't so humid! Yay! :yay:

Congrats to everyone who got up early and ran this morning! I am definitely not an early morning person LOL.

Great job on your 5K !!!!!!!

I use my Garmin Forerunner 10 too...AND the Nike+ app. I will start the Nike app right away and do my 1/4 mile walk. Then I keep it running and start my Garmin when I start my "run". That way, I know my overall distance and pace but I also know how well I do when I start my intervals.

I dragged myself out of bed at 4:45 and hit the road at 5:10. I made it out the door 10 minutes faster than yesterday...win #1 for the day:cool1:. I did 2.02 miles in 23:06 which is an 11:26 pace with no intervals:goodvibes. That pace includes the first 1/4 mile that I walked so I am happy with it. I just wish I could get myself up earlier so that I could actually run a decent distance. This 25-minute, 2 mile stuff doesn't feel like it is doing anything to prepare me for 3 hours/13 miles. At best, it is serving as a "placeholder" between the times when I can actually get out and go 5-6 miles.

It is so hard to find the time when I have energy and the energy when I have the time:confused3. I work 12-hour day shifts and DH works 12-hour day shifts as well. We are mostly opposite days with only one day a week that we are both off. The kids are terrified of staying home alone while one of us goes out and runs (the kids are 10 and 7) so I can either do a long run on the ONE day a week that we are off (and I have to coordinate it with him because HE is training for the race too), or I have to wait until he gets home at 6pm. There's no way I will run before he goes to work...he leaves at 5am:lmao:! He prefers to run "at night". He will usually wait until I get home which isn't until 8pm most nights. Unfortunately, he is still recovering from his nasty bike accident and has only built back up to 3 miles:worried:. He's getting back into running very slowly. He injured his shoulder, but he also had some pectoral muscle involvement which is affecting his breathing when he runs. He's working on it, though, and making decent progress.

I'm off to work 12 now...have a great day everyone and get out there and pound some pavement:wave2:.

I also use RunKeeper. I've heard it's a bit spotty on GPS, but it seems to be spot on for me. Yesterday we tested it vs. my husband's Garmin 210 and a marked trail and all 3 were spot on. For my non-trail runs, I usually estimate my routes using MapMyRun or my car before I leave.

Just completed Week 7 of my training plan and I'm so pleased with how far I've come! I still want to work on speed a bit because I'm running a 12 min mile, but I'm still walking 1/4mi of each mile and it's HOT outside :) Overall it's getting easier and easier every week, which is the goal!:banana:

Great job everyone on your runs! :). I didn't quite make my whole three miles yesterday... I only got 2.62 in, but I was satisfied with that after three days off and three days on antibiotics. I experimented with taping for my PF and I liked how it felt, but combined with my orthotics, I think it was a little too much. PF is soo frustrating!!

Somehow, I have ended up signed up to run the Princess half, as well. A friend and I were just sort of musing about it and, the next thing I knew, our husbands said to do it. It will be a girls' weekend with a couple of running friends and will be my first time away from the kids overnight. I am excited and nervous.
