The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I apologise, I'm sure this has been covered. I'm not doing the wine n dine until 2014, but just trying to get my ducks in a row. If I want to rent points for BLT what date should I be calling to do that? Thank you!

We rented points from David's on Dec 7th/12 to reserve our BWV studio and didn't get first choice at 3:30, had to go preferred. This was or a Nov 7/13 check-in.

It's official, hubby and I are registered! My sister registered yesterday! :cool1: Time to kick the training up another notch, and start looking at resorts!!

Did some cross training today, went for a 20 mile bike ride.
Really hoping for some better weather, well actually just less wind.
I dont mind training in the cooler/cold but the wind well I just cannot stand training with the wind.

Still have not pulled trigger on flights, prices just all over the place, really hoping to get a price under $330.

On another note, this will be the first year that my DDs will not be going to the world. We are doing an extended family WDW visit summer of 2014, so we are saving points. DDs are 8 and 9 and have been to WDW every year they have been alive, yes they are spoiled, but we love WDW.
They have an idea that DW and I are going in fall but it has not become real yet. Anyone else going down without the kiddos who expect to go every year?

Keep on training.

Well, our kiddos don't get to go every year, just every other year. I can just imagine how ticked off they are gonna be when they find out DH and I are going on our off year without them. Especially our DS 5. He literally says something about WDW every single day!

Ok, I just registered!! Now my nerves and self doubt are kicking in! I hope 7 months is enough time to train.
Good luck to everyone with their training ;)

Welcome! 7 months should be a great plenty, especially if you are already able to jog any type of distance. :)

I say that as I am hoping to also have enough time to get back into my best running shape. Two years ago I ran the Wine & Dine (my first half ever!) and timed at 2:29. Since then I have gotten married and slipped with my training just a little but I sure do hope to get back to a similar pace by then. Pretty sure I can. It will be nice to drop back to my smaller dress size too.

Aw c'mon! You're already moving and you'll do GREAT!:cool1:

Thanks for the encouragement! Had a TERRIBLE 5K on Saturday! It was 31 degrees, high winds, cloudy and HAILING. So miserable! I never run outside unless it is at least 60 degree's but since I already paid for it and my daughter was begging to go, we went :( I'm not sure why I listen to a 10yo.

Speaking of the bossy 10yo, I am signing her up for the kids one mile race. Does anyone know what the commemorative necklace or Mickey ears look like? I couldn't find a picture anywhere??

Thanks!
Melinda

Just checking in..I was slowly training for the WnD but got talked into running in the Lake Placid half in June. So I really have to get moving. I'm not in it for a time, just to finish. Training is up to 7 miles in 1:14, not too fast but not too slow either :)

That's a great time Jenn. You'll be rocking it by November!:cool1:

I am doing my first 1/2 in June also. It is sponsored by the show Biggest Loser. I am using it for possible time/corral placement, but also to see how far 13.1 miles is :rotfl2: Awesome on the training and time, I have only done 6.2 so far. I was too busy this weekend and missed my long run. Gonna have to make it up this coming weekend.

That's a great pace!!

Happy training (from another Jenn-with-2-"n's")!! :)

Okay, signing up this week before it sells out. I started back to training after a long stretch of sick with some three mile runs and now I'm going to start bumping up my mileage very slowly in the coming weeks. I'm not starting to officially train until July, which is when I'll begin a 16-week program. In the meantime, I'll just be working up to 5 mile runs and doing some speed work.

Not looking forward to July because we are going to go visit family for the month of June. While I'll be running regularly during our trip, I then have to go from a month at sea level to over 6,000 feet again to start my training schedule which, I know from experience, hurts!

Not sure about the kids' races. Is it really worth it or should DH and I just hand over our medals to the kiddos on Sunday morning? :)

That's like 11 minutes per mile - not to shabby at all!

PixDust - That sounds like CRAPPY weather to run in. Yuck.

DLB - For some reason, 13 miles at Disney always seems a lot shorter then 13 miles on the streets. Especially this route, which has great "pick me ups" in the middle and towards the ends cause you get to run through parks. Including nearly 3 miles through the studios, which goes by like that.

All - Super nice weather here, finally, so I hope to go 7 miles this afternoon. So excited for November and still bursting to tell DH around every corner, but am managing to hold it in so far!

I think the time in AK goes by in a flash. For me the Studios drags on and on and on and on. (Can we ever have a race that doesn't go down that blasted costuming tunnel?) One shining exemption to that is the Osborne Lights.

Beautiful day here yesterday. No leggings, just shorts!!! Woo Hoo!!

Does anyone here use MapMyRun or a similar app to track your mileage and training? I think it would help me to keep up with other people who have the same end goal.

I agree about the miles! I just ran a half in the city next door to mine and it seemed like it went on FOREVER!:scared1: Of course, it seemed worse as my ITBS was operating on maximum capacity too. Even though I had the same problem last year, albeit to a much smaller degree, I didn't even notice it most of the time as there was so much to see. The worst part for me was the stretch between AK and DHS. At least until I hit the Lululemon cheer squad at the turn into DHS. They had the best (and funniest) signs on the whole course!:cheer2: It's nice to see something not so "Disney" out there sometimes!:lmao:

I have been using the Nike app on my phone. It has worked for me so far. :thumbsup2 Tracks my distance, split mile times, mileage per month, 'awards' you win, ie fastest 5k, longest distance and such. After a run you can connect to their website and see even more info, ie where you were fastest in your run
