The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I agree about the miles! I just ran a half in the city next door to mine and it seemed like it went on FOREVER!:scared1: Of course, it seemed worse as my ITBS was operating on maximum capacity too. Even though I had the same problem last year, albeit to a much smaller degree, I didn't even notice it most of the time as there was so much to see. The worst part for me was the stretch between AK and DHS. At least until I hit the Lululemon cheer squad at the turn into DHS. They had the best (and funniest) signs on the whole course!:cheer2: It's nice to see something not so "Disney" out there sometimes!:lmao:

I feel like during a race the miles go by so quickly. During my training runs, the time just drags. I have ran a 5M, a 5K and a 10K so far and it actually went by pretty quickly and I enjoyed it. My training runs, not so much! :sad2::rotfl2: There is just so much excitement during a race, not as much during training. ;)

Hope your ITBS is better. :flower3:

I use 'iSmoothRun'. It has been the app that is the most useful to what I want from it.

Agreed. Plus during the Disney races, there's always a bunch of people around no matter what pace you're running/walking.::yes::

I'm taking a break from running until June (and going absolutely stir crazy:faint:), so I'm hoping the IT's will appreciate the break and give me one as well!:goodvibes

I agree that time passes much more quickly during a race. Training runs are usually not as much fun! Every now and again I hit one where I get that awesome runner's high, and I love it when that happens - just doesn't happy every time!

I think the stretch between AK and DHS are definitely the longest for me, along with the last 2 miles. Last year I ended up with the worst blisters and the last 2 miles really took it out of me, along with the friend I was running with was really pushing me to finish as fast as I could. In retrospect, I'm glad he pushed me towards the end, but at the moment I was not too happy!

My sister and I are in for Wine and Dine '13! Our goal this year: Make it through the race without anyone throwing up . . . I suppose it'll be a certain kind of PR. :)

New Mantra: We will finish, we will not throw up!

At least we've taken turns ;)

Hey guys- the W&D training plan is up on the rundisney website! Get planning!

I enjoy my training runs. Probably because I get to be alone and listen to my music for 30-60 minutes ;)

I agree that Disney races make the mileage seem shorter because the course is so interesting. ToT went by in a flash. Though I thought that winding through the back of HS was a bit tedious, I didn't mind running out to AK except for the annoying announcements to watch my step over the speed bump that seemed to go on for a mile leading up to it :p.

I use RunKeeper to train and I like it. DH uses Zombies, Run!

Admiting I have not read the first 60 pages of this thread.

I am thinking of running this race in November.

What is it like to start a race at 10pm? I've only ever done early morning races. At a 12min/mile expected pace and knowing what I know about staggered starts etc I'm guessing it would be close to 1am when I cross the finish line.

Personally, I prefer the night races... The corral splits last year were only 5 minutes apart for wine & dine... Do you have proof of time for your corral placement?

I didn't even notice what the time was when I finished last year. :confused3 You wouldn't know the difference anyway as there seemed to be just as many people around Epcot as there is during normal hours on a regular day. :dance3: I had to start in the last corral last year, but it went by pretty fast. I just hated having to wait all that time for it to start. You have to get to WWoS so darn early as the bus service stops by 8ish, if I remember correctly. :confused3

Hey look! It's the "We're on our way to not puke today" girls!! Yippee!!!:love::yay:

I will admit I am nervous about the time. :worried: I am usually in bed by 8:30/9P. I am a total morning person. But I got caught up in the excitement of signing up. :rotfl2:I am hoping to take a nap in the afternoon, because I will probably still be waking up at my normal 5a time. I am hoping all of the excitement of the race, entertainment, and people will help keep me awake. And I am definitely sleeping late the next day, until 7 at least! :lmao:

Coming from someone who also gets up at 5am on weekdays and 'sleeps in' until 6:30 on weekends, you can do it. This will be my fourth W&D. Be sure to take it easy during the day on Saturday and if you can find a way try to squeeze in a night run or two.

That's my concern too although I don't normally go to bed until around 11, but I am s till up at 5:30 every morning.

My concern is keeping myself calm on race day. I thought the NYC marathon start time was late when I ran it a few years ago although that probably had to do with the fact that I had to be up by 4am to get to Staten Island and then sit around and wait in the cold forever.

Last year, I think I woke up around 8 on Saturday, went over to the Ale House to watch a football game at 1pm, grabbed some subs from Publix to eat when I woke up around 5pm and went back to the room and laid down. :cloud9: Couldn't sleep, but just taking it easy for the afternoon helped considerably. I was good to go the rest of the night. When we got back to the room I think around 3am, I still couldn't sleep. By Sunday night though, I was a total zombie!

Hey there. I read Publix and Ale House and they are by me, too!

I'm used to running at night for my long runs so my issue isn't with the race per say but with the lack of sleep I'll no doubt be getting after the race is over due to the post race festivities. I'm estimating the time I'm planning on finishing around half past midnight, then waiting for my friends to cross the finish line, eat, ride a few rides, photos, medal engraving, head back to the bus around 2amish, take a shower, blow hair, stretch, etc., When all is said and done I don't see myself being ready to catch some Zzz's until around 4-4:30. Which gives me an hour at the most of sleep before having to get up to catch an early ADR at the CP at MK followed by a day at the park.

Has anyone gone straight through the night after running a half followed by a day at the park?

I use RunKeeper and really love it. Happy to grow my street team, if anyone wants. My username there is OregonGirl.

Since I am from Oregon a 10 PM start for me is like 7 PM which is typically when I am running or have just finished running anyway. I think I actually prefer the night run because of that.

As far as the after party goes, I was there two years ago (2011) and there were a fair amount of people in the World Showcase drinking booze. DH and I don't drink alcohol (I know - why am I running a WINE & dine then, lol?) so we stood in line to get my medal engraved and then rode Ellen's Energy Adventure (not my first choice but we had 2 other couples we were vacationing with). I wanted to do Test Track after but I was so tired with hurting legs that we just decided to bail.

That my was first half EVER and I have since done 2 others and have been consistently training so I hope that my endurance is better and I can tough it out a little longer. We didn't get to see any of the food offerings in World Showcase and I would have liked to. I submitted proof of time of 2:29 and am hoping I get Corral C or thereabouts so I can finish shortly after midnight.

Of course, if I am pregnant by then (we're actively trying) the race will have different goals and things will change.

Here's a general question for anyone who might have "fallen off the wagon" just a little. I did give myself nearly a 6 month break from consistently running and now I am back to about 5 miles a day but my time for that route is about 10 minutes longer than it once was. How long do you all think it will take me to get back up to my faster pace if I continue to do my 5 miles a day (with probably a rest day or two each week)?

Then you should be right beside me (if I can maintain my pace!!!!)
