The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Are there recommended spectator viewing spots along the Wine & Dine course or at the finish line? DH doesn't have a Finish Line Party Ticket but hopes to get some pictures of me at some point. We are staying at Pop Century, would he be able to catch a bus over to Epcot and walk over to the finish line without a ticket? I've only run at Disneyland and it's a lot different set up there.

Doctor's visit went well - kind of. I basically went in and wrote my script. That really miffs my wife as I have kind of done that for most every thing for 5-7 years; as long as I knew what the illness/injury was.

Long story short, a few x-rays; lots of bone spurs (arthritis); still good joint separation but to a point where the inevitable bionic replacement may occur. High probability of a meniscus issue that was confirmed in the physical test assessment. We both agree that fighting the inflammation first is the first step. Asked for a cortisone injection, confirmed that I have time for a follow up injection pre-Goofy. If the injection(s) fail will followup with Hyaluronan treatments. We ruled out anything more until we see how this manages the inflammation.

I am cleared to run this weekend.

Good to hear you are cleared to run.
When you say meniscus issue, are you considering an MRI?
A good friend had his meniscus shaved and it eliminated all swelling an pain. It was a 1 day out patient procedure and he was back running in 3 days. He was 41 at time of procedure.

Sometimes a slight tear in the meniscus causes all sorts of issues in the knee.

As for Cort shots, they work great but typically mask the real issue but great for the short term.

I am interested in hearing about your hyaluron injections and if you feel the cushioning effect it is suppose to add.

Best places with the most spectators I have seen in the past agreed by boardwalk in front of Yacht and Beach Club.

I'm not sure I understood most of that but I hope the cortisone injection works! And so glad you can run this weekend!

I ran 7 miles today. Hardly any knee pain! (Even less than the 4 miles on Tuesday! Yay!) I wonder if the KT taping was hurting me worse when I was using it.

But my right Achilles is acting up again! The only other time its hurt was DL half. It was a little achey on Tuesday and a lot today! Wondering if I should try kt taping that,....

As mentioned earlier, the better spots are along the boardwalk to beach club stretch. Though, it will be next to impossible for spectators to go there if depending on Disney transportation without a party ticket. He could hail a cab and have them drop him at the Yacht Club Resort. Then hail a cab to the front of Epcot to meet up with you post-race...or you could walk back through Epcot as a warm down and meet him there.

There is a slight possibility of your DH climbing the on ramp at Buena Vista (just outside of the All Stars to watch. It is really dark in that stretch so you two actually seeing one another is low; especially with that being mile 2 and change.

What time can family enter the After Party at Epcot? I know the website says 10pm but I have read in the past as early as 7pm. Kinda like the Christmas party starts at 7 but you can get in at 4pm. I just couldn't find anything about this years allowed entry time.
Thanks!

The rundisney website says 7pm, but the tickets say 10pm. I suspect that the 7pm time is legit.

Aw man, today was really my last chance to get in a longer run before the trip. I woke up with a splitting migraine. I felt it coming on when I went to bed so I took Excedrin PM, hoping to fend it off. No luck:headache:. I managed to get the kids on the bus and fell back into bed after some more meds. I finally got up around 10am and still had a bit of a headache. It wasn't debilitating, but there was no way I could run very far. On top of that, it is raining...that all-day, miserable kind of rain:sad1:. Bummer, because I really wanted to go about 9 miles today.

Starting tomorrow, I work 7a-7p for 4 days in a row:crazy2:. On Tuesday, I have a brief meeting at work but I should still be able to run for about an hour or so. It won't be too long, distance-wise, but at least I can squeeze in another run. I'll also have to get almost all of my packing done on Tuesday because I have one more day of work on Wednesday.

The weather forecast (although probably unreliable this far out) is looking pretty decent:beach:.

I wrote about/and a few folks commented back to me...but I get migraines, too. It is awful. I hope that you feel better, too. Mine are worse when cold fronts roll in. (and they are cyclical in nature as well.)

I am hopeful that I won't have any in WDW, but I recall the last Florida vacation being awful as I adjusted post-flight. :confused3 Anyway, my goal is to stay clear from imitrex b/c it impacts my performance. Prayers that you are migraine-free for the race.

Rely on your training thus far. You've put in a ton....you've got that going for you!

(((hugs)))

Ok, went for my run. Ended up doing around 3.5 but all I can say is... The race MUST be right around the corner because I just had my "crappy run before the race" run. Every race I have a really terrible run somewhere 1-2 weeks before. Tonight was such a run: side stitch, foot cramp, and just a general blah feeling. I know there are practical reasons my run stunk (not proper hydration, or pre run snack, or energy sapping day at work-) whatever. I call it part of my training. Better now than next week during the race.

Also, another of my random running thoughts tonight was: "respect the short run. Cause it can still kick your butt." I always "fear" the long runs but tonight's short run reminded me that even just a few miles can be tough (didn't help that I did some extra hills I suppose. Oops)

It must be contagious! ::yes:: Did my 10 miler on Sunday and felt great! :cool1: Did a 4 miler on Tuesday with no energy, no rhythm, and where the he** did these side stitches come from??!! :confused3 :confused3 That being said, yesterday's 4 miler felt so good that once I had warmed up, I went with a few Yasso 800's. Mr. Side Stitch showed up again, but once I got some water in me, it went away. :thumbsup2

Fun stuff: the DH has an office in a nearby elementary school and got the art teacher to have the kids make us up a W.I.S.H. banner for the picture. I sent him the logo so I can't wait to see what they come up with! :hyper:

Does anyone know what it means when you get a sharp (shooting almost) pain up the middle of your ankle when running on it? My foot was feeling good so I went for a run. After a couple miles this happened once. I thought it was a fluke so I kept on going. It then happened a few more times and once I was up to 6 miles(almost the end of the run) it happened more regularly.

I'm not happy at all right now. This issue is really sucking the excitement out of this trip. :worried:

No idea what's up with that BUT remember.....this is all about HAVING FUN! :thumbsup2 If you have to jog, walk, or even limp for a while, don't sweat it! You'll have plenty of fellow WISH'ers around you to help! :cool1:

Like everyone else, you lost me on most the medical stuff but WHOOP! WHOOP! on being able to run. Does that mean that you're actually GOING to though??? :confused3

Since it looks like a Friday afternoon meetup is going to be too crazy with alot of peeps just getting in, I for one am SO looking forward to meeting everyone Saturday night! :yay: :woohoo: So until then, keep yourself calm, take it easy on your training, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, and (to be super redundant :faint:), REMEMBER IT'S ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN!!!

And to get our weekend started off right....

[ :cool1:  :woohoo: 6 days, 15 hours, and 17 minutes until Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend officially kicks off!!! :jumping1::rockband:party::dogdance:

I am never sure how they handle the multiple entries - regular park goers versus after hours party folks when both are allowed in the park during regular hours.

What I have seen in the past is that if you are in the after party, you need to have a wristband in place else you are subject to being asked to leave.

Pulling out my soap box...

This early entry makes it even less likely I will head to back through Epcot post race. I have noticed that Epcot seems to have become Disney's version of City Walk or Bourbon Street and not so family friendly. Maybe it's the fact I am there more now than in the past, but it seems to be having a drunk guest issue this year.

.... thanks for letting me vent

I am looking for one after party ticket if anyone knows where I can find one let me know. I have one person coming last minute and they don't have one. The party is sold out so I can't get one through Disney.
My daughter is running in the half marathon. She ended up having to get a cortizone shot a few weeks ago. She is determined that she is going to run.
I wish everyone good luck on the run and some pixiedust of course.pixiedust:

My last long run is tomorrow, for a 10 miler. I'm not much of a taper person. I tend to run about the same long run distance all year round. I did throw in a few 15 milers these past two months. When I've trained for marathons, I've bumped up the total weekly mileage significantly. The only thing I've done differently for this race was to run more 3 to 5 mile runs at a faster than race pace. An aspect of training I haven't used before. I'm hoping it pays off.

I'm really starting to feel anxious for this race. Can't wait to get down there, although I'm arriving on Friday day before the race. One quick week to go!

I know a lot of the people that have been posting have travel plans that have them leaving in the next few days so I wanted to wish you all good luck and have fun!

Regardless of your ability, pace or finishing place; you all have been a great inspiration to me and many others who have stopped by to read your posts. For that I personally thank you.

Matt

Depending on the WX service you are looking at, the weather looks to be about 10F above average on race night. That means starting temps in the lower 70’s to upper 60’s. The temps are predicated on whether a front clears the peninsula or stalls before hitting CFL.

If this is the case, make extra sure to stay on top of hydration from about Thursday through Sunday. Drink enough so that you pee with a slight color to clear. Consider running gear with short sleeves and shorts. I hope Accuweather is correct and the temps are closer to average.

Thanks Coach! Hopefully all this "northern" fall running I've been doing hasn't completely ruined me for those temps. I've been running in slightly warmer than normal clothes for our local temps thinking that might help (and knowing that it probably wouldn't because of the lack of humidity). Hopefully the fact that it's dark out will help a little.

Feeling really down about running in general today. DH got a new job last month and found out yesterday that he won't be able to go with us in February for the final chapter in my "Disney endurance series" (Pink Coast-to-Coast/Glass slipper challenge). I can still go with my parents and son, but I may have to go to Cali alone in January. Logistically I can make it work, but it won't be as nice as planned. I'm trying not to let it color my attitude about next weekend, but it's hard to think of runDisney right now without thinking of Feb.

Oh well, I have a short run on my schedule tonight - hoping that by running in my other shoes, I'll be able to save my toes a little. Maybe a good run will perk up my mood as it often does.

:cheer2: Good luck to everyone running this weekend, and those getting ready to travel! I will be doing tons and tons of laundry, organizing DS for his stay at grandma's and finalizing my playlist!

Is it possible for spectators to watch as we come out of Hollywood Studios?

Is it possible for spectators to watch as we come out of Hollywood Studios?

I believe spectators could watch from there. If they do not have a vehicle, I think it would be better to watch from behind Boardwalk, Yacht Club or Beach Club. They would be much closer to enter the party if that is the plan or head to the front of the resort to catch a cab.

Good luck everyone with the race. My sister and I are heading down on Thursday. Hope to be able to run on Sat. I have been dealing with bursitis in my hip and it has killed my running for the past month. I am not sure how to deal with it, been doing all the PT exercises but it is not getting much better. Sad thing is I am also in the middle of training for the Dopey. Hopefully I can figure something out. Has anyone else had hip bursitis issues and come out ok without taking too much time off?
