The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Curious what everyone's advice to me would be. I did my last really long run (just over 10 miles) about 2 months ago and haven't stuck to my training plan as rigorously as I'd like. But, I consistently do 2-4 runs a week, each averaging 4.5 miles. I've thrown a couple of 7-milers in there (tonight included) and had been planning on a 10-miler this weekend - but do you think that is just to close to the actual race? Am I going to be spent trying to do two long runs (plus at least one shorter midweek run next week) that close together? I know I can finish - I did the W&D last year and know I can finish. I was just hoping for a bit of a time improvement and was thinking another long run might help build stamina and confidence....

What do y'all think?

You know you better than anyone else...do you think you can handle those 2 runs in the same week? What did you do last year? For me personally I have a 12-miler scheduled this weekend, which I know has worked well for me in the past. But some people like a 2-week taper better. It's different for everyone. I can totally see why you'd want to get that 10-miler in though...of you do I feel like it would probably be okay as long as you stick to shore runs next week with some rest days thrown in. Good luck!

:thumbsup2 and pixiedust: and  headed your way!

Thanks!

Good luck with the MRI...

Funny that you are seeing a doc near me and my Thursday appointment is near you. Go figure.

That does figure!! I hope it goes well tomorrow!

I ran 4 miles yesterday. I didn't tape it up and my knee actually felt fine until about 3.25 miles. Even then the pain wasn't horrible--just noticeable. I'm going to try 7 tomorrow and I don't think I'm going to tape it up again.

I am looking for a ticket to the after party on Saturday night. I was a last minute add on supporter for my kids and the tix are sold out. I would love to be at the event with them. Help!! :)

Does anyone know what it means when you get a sharp (shooting almost) pain up the middle of your ankle when running on it? My foot was feeling good so I went for a run. After a couple miles this happened once. I thought it was a fluke so I kept on going. It then happened a few more times and once I was up to 6 miles(almost the end of the run) it happened more regularly.

I'm not happy at all right now. This issue is really sucking the excitement out of this trip. :worried:

I have no idea what it means but I wanted to send you support! Maybe it will just go away. Maybe you just tweaked it, or had a tight muscle or old shoes or tight laces or a funny road angle. who knows. But if it persists and hurts all the time, I'd say get it checked.

In the meantime, try to put it out of your mind as best as possible. Perhaps browse the disney world website to get excited just to be there and maybe enjoy the food and wine fest or the holiday decor.

Thanks! That does help. :goodvibes
I know worst case I could still walk it but I had been doing so well (for me) with the training and I was getting so pumped to actually do this and do good, the thought of walking it and blowing how far I have come, is just such a bummer!

Hopefully its just a bad run day and you won't have it again. I've had days like that from time to time. I've never had the shooting pain in my ankle (my knee on occassion)

Doctor's visit went well - kind of. I basically went in and wrote my script. That really miffs my wife as I have kind of done that for most every thing for 5-7 years; as long as I knew what the illness/injury was.

Long story short, a few x-rays; lots of bone spurs (arthritis); still good joint separation but to a point where the inevitable bionic replacement may occur. High probability of a meniscus issue that was confirmed in the physical test assessment. We both agree that fighting the inflammation first is the first step. Asked for a cortisone injection, confirmed that I have time for a follow up injection pre-Goofy. If the injection(s) fail will followup with Hyaluronan treatments. We ruled out anything more until we see how this manages the inflammation.

I am cleared to run this weekend.

Aw man, today was really my last chance to get in a longer run before the trip. I woke up with a splitting migraine. I felt it coming on when I went to bed so I took Excedrin PM, hoping to fend it off. No luck:headache:. I managed to get the kids on the bus and fell back into bed after some more meds. I finally got up around 10am and still had a bit of a headache. It wasn't debilitating, but there was no way I could run very far. On top of that, it is raining...that all-day, miserable kind of rain:sad1:. Bummer, because I really wanted to go about 9 miles today.

Starting tomorrow, I work 7a-7p for 4 days in a row:crazy2:. On Tuesday, I have a brief meeting at work but I should still be able to run for about an hour or so. It won't be too long, distance-wise, but at least I can squeeze in another run. I'll also have to get almost all of my packing done on Tuesday because I have one more day of work on Wednesday.

The weather forecast (although probably unreliable this far out) is looking pretty decent:beach:.

I'm, glad I'm not the only one checking the forecast this far out. ;) Sorry to hear about the migraine. Feel better!

That is great to hear! You may have convinced me to give the doctor a call if I'm still feeling this tomorrow.

Thanks! All the good thoughts are appreciate it. I did feel it once today when I was "running" up the stairs. It seems like if I hit it just right I get zapped almost. ;)

One week from now we will be almost to the Swan!

UGH - I'm glad you are cleared to run but the long term prognosis is what I fear for my own knees in the future. I hope the cortisone helps and you get the inflammation under control in the short term and that you won't need to go bionic in the foresable future.

What time can family enter the After Party at Epcot? I know the website says 10pm but I have read in the past as early as 7pm. Kinda like the Christmas party starts at 7 but you can get in at 4pm. I just couldn't find anything about this years allowed entry time.
Thanks!

It has looked great and then I checked today and the showers that were on Friday are now on Saturday. Hoping and praying that it is too far out to really tell!! It's Florida and rain is always in the forecast. Hope it's dry for the race and after party, that's all! :beach:

Nonononono!!! No rain!

Sigh. This day has gone downhill fast. Found out today that DH will probably not be able to come with us for the princess half weekend in February. DS and my parents and I will still go because I'm not delaying the glass slipper challenge (if that would even be possible).

Plus my troublesome toe is hurting quite a bit today. Hoping the bruising, blister and pain subsides before next week!!!

What are you dressing up as? DH and I are in corral I (I think! We start at 10:23) and he is going to be Batman and I am Wonder Woman. No Mickey costumes- ran out of time so just wearing comfy running clothes! Look for us, hopefully ahead of the balloon ladies!!

I'm kind of tinkerbelle, have some green wings and lucky charm sparkleskirt as well as WISH top. I also bought some green fairy lights to put around my wings so I'll glow!!!

Coach- thrilled you can run, hope it's not too ouchy tho.

Really sad to read about the flurry of migraines, I know how they feel and also get that wiped out feeling the next day. Boo.

Hope the injured troops feel better super soon. It's almost time :D
