The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Yesterday I ran a 10 miler that I was using for my marathon corral placement. Pre-knee injury, I was hoping for just a little below an 11 min pace. Then post injury, since I've only run 5 times since DL half and my knee hurts, I was just hoping for sub 12. I got a 10:27 pace! I was shocked! My knee definitely hurt a lot, but it wasn't excruciating. And while the rest of my body wasn't sore yesterday, it sure is today!

I finally got in to see the doctor today. I like him much more than my other doctor from last year. He didn't once try to just glaze over everything with an ITband or Runner Knee conclusion. He's sending me for an MRI. He thinks it might be a meniscus tear or bone bruise. He also said that while he could tell me not to run, I probably won't listen and if I've run several times through the pain already, I might as well until the results come back (if it's something I really shouldn't run through). He said he knows how runners are :lmao: (This all said in a funny way, not in a jerky way)

I think I might try 4 miles tomorrow. I've only run 1 other weekday run since I hurt my knee 5 weeks ago. Debating on whether I should KT tape it or not like I've started doing for the long runs...I think I might try without it this time (I'm cheap and don't want to have to use it for every short run if I don't have to!)

I'm really hoping that the MRI results don't come with something that is going to prevent me from running the W&D. I'll be so upset if it does!

silly followup - 8pm Friday or 8pm Saturday?

That would be Saturday. :goodvibes

I have to note this on my cheat sheet! And Friday afternoon at the Boardwalk somewhere?

If everyone is interested (and since things can be so crazy at the start), I'll be happy to meet up with whomever wants to at the Boardwalk around 3pm on Friday :thumbsup2. Everyone just let me know if you want to or not so I can plan accordingly. I know alot of you won't be getting in until that day or will be at packet pickup, but if enough of us want to, I'm all for an ice cream jaunt.

Time to vent! I haven't run in 2 days (since doing my 12+) because of the pain in my foot. It feels fine to walk normally on it and even moving it around, but running on it makes the bones hurt (especially on the outer side). Its really weird.

Then to boot my Ipod seems to have a mind of its own and it stops playing at certain songs, and then some songs are disappearing form my running playlist...after I added them all in and arranged them in the order I want. Grrr, just a frustrating day. :sad2:

Lets do this thing!

I hate IPods that become possessed! :crazy2:

Thanks Coach! :goodvibes

Hey there, speedy! Nice job!

Like you, I feel like I'm missing out on not going to the afterparty, but DH and I have an 8:12 am tee time the next morning. I keep hoping someone will tell me the party is no fun and a total waste of money so I can stop feeling bad. Anyone? Anyone? :rolleyes1 By the time I thought, "yeah, let's go for a little bit" the tickets were all sold out.

Apparently somebody doesn't appreciate the concept of sleeping in! :lmao: :rotfl:

And for the daily countdown...

9 days, 15 hours, 57 minutes!!!!! :cool1::banana::jumping1::rainbow::bounce:

Vent away...

I would not feel compelled to run this week and only a very short one over the weekend. Add ice as well.

Can't help the iPod thing. I tend to toss them with regularity. When teaching cycle class, one mess up on the iPod's part is almost enough to toss it, after two, it is gone.

Thanks for the advice. The foot is feeling a bit better today and I managed a 4-4.5 mile run with just a little pain. I will take it easy though. Now is not the time to mess this up! ;)

DH re-set up the whole Ipod thing (hes the technical one, LOL) and I think its going OK. Lets hope it lasts.

I squeezed in 3.2 miles this morning at a 12:03 pace. I put on my shoes and felt a pain (rub) on my right Achilles area. Since I haven't run in 4 days, I knew it wasn't a blister but that's what it felt like. I think I scratched it in my sleep with my other foot because there was a small scab there. I took off on the run and it was rubbing pretty bad. About 3/4 mile in, I didn't even notice it anymore so all was good. Then I got home and had to rinse the blood out of my sock:(. I'll clean it and cover it and should be good to go:). My next planned run is Thursday. As long as the weather is decent, I'm hoping for 7-10 miles. If not, I'm not gong to sweat it. According to my Nike app, I've logged 43 runs for over 200 miles and my average overall pace is 12:12. I no longer afraid of being swept. My target training pace has always been 13:00 so that I could go at 15:00 in the race and sill be fine. I am confident that I will be able to finish!

Do the SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!! (No smilies...I'm on the phone:)

This is a very interesting way to look at it (I'm a bit of a math junkie when it comes to my running). So I looked this info up for my training for this year's race and last years. (ignoring all runs pre-July) Projecting the next two weeks runs leading up to the race for ease of comparison, I will have done 216 miles, 50 runs, and an average pace of 12:18. That includes my warm up and cool down walking. I know my "easy" running pace is actually 11:40 and I ran my long run last weekend at exactly that pace and averaged just over 12:00 with my stop and stretch and walk my knee pain out so I'm REALLY hoping that I'll be around 2:30 for the race if I race hard and don't stop for any pics or 2:38 if I decide to take it easy. It would be fantastic to finish in 2:33 or less, so that I could achieve my "dream" goal from last year which was basically just to beat my sister's time. (Gotta love sibling rivalry.) However, I'm just WAY too tempted by Darth Vader and my DS told me I really need to stop for some pics this year. So honestly, I am just going to go with the flow.

Last year I ran 201 total training miles and 47 runs averaging 12:29 pace. I ended up finishing the race in 2:51something and I stopped for a bathroom break in AK and one photo op and quite a few unexpected walk breaks. I actually clocked 13.5 miles last year, which was about 12:45 pace.

Comparing the two years otherwise, i also ran a lot more of my runs on hilly routes this year vs. last, had less injuries, and I think I figured out the hydration part a lot better (nearly no post-run tummy issues this year vs. a lot of that last year). I've also run two local races and have learned how to push myself during a race to get past that mental block. So we shall see... The biggest thing is I just hope I have as much fun as I did last year! or more!:woohoo:

Edited: just looked up my last four long runs for this year and last, and I beat my each of 2012 run times by about 10 min which would support my hopeful overall pace improvement.

Oh my...I'm so excited b/c our departure date is in the 10-day-weather forecast!

:hyper:

Almost there!
5 more training runs to go!

Everyone feeling awesome???

:offtopic:
I get migraines pretty badly. (I'm on daily preventatives and take injectible imitrex when they flare badly). Today is a bad one. :furious: At least maybe I can get it out of the way NOW and not have a headache on race day. I hate taking imitrex b/c I feel like I have a harder time running the next day. I feel like it kind of holds me back or something. Sigh.

Where are we on the countdown to raceday?
11 days to Wine & Dine? We actually leave on Thursday, 11/7.

I have been mental running for a month now thanks to a cold- take it easy and you will be better for it in the long RUN! ;-)

As a fellow migraine sufferer I am SO feeling your pain. I had a REALLY bad migraine last weekend. Gorgeous sunny weather and I'm indoors with the room darkening curtains drawn and praying for this monster to go away. I also feel drugged the next day after Imitrex. It's a double edged sword for sure. You want the pain to be gone but you suffer for it in other ways.

Sending massive pixie dust your way and hoping that no Migraine monsters follow you to Disney World!!! pixiedust:

 all you math junkies! If I look to hard or too long at the numbers, I'll:faint:...

I can tell you that at least in the 3 hours away from WDW zone, the weather has been cool (ok, MY kind of cool) 65-70's at night and low to mid 80's during the day. It's usually just a little bit cooler at :mickeyjum, and so far it's looking like low 60's to mid 80's on the 10 day forecast. :thumbsup2

I get migraines too...but I am deathly allergic to Imitrex. The one and only time I had it (injectable form), my BP and heart rate spiked so fast that I had a seizure. Then, my whole upper arm turned red and swelled up at the site. Luckily, I was in the ER when I received the shot so they were able to treat it immediately. My doc said that since the reaction was so severe and not related to anaphylaxis, I should avoid ALL of the "triptans". Most of my migraines are triggered by my sinuses so I try to stay decongested. I can usually put the kabosh on a headache if I take some Excedrin and a can of Diet Coke right at the first twinge. When all else fails, I use an old-school medication, Midrin. My doc wasn't even sure it was still made since the triptans have become the drug of choice, but it is and it works for me. Unfortunately, any drug with "drowsiness" listed as a side effect is usually enough to knock me out. I took a Benadryl before mowing the lawn one time and I literally walked into the wall when I got inside:laughing:. Midrin is the same...the sedative knocks me silly. Fortunately, it is a brief sedation and the sleepiness is usually completely gone in about 8 hours. Benadryl hangovers last about 2 days for me:crazy2:.

DH is out running right now. He figured he'd try to squeeze in three miles since I went out this morning. He actually mentioned today that he should think about packing:rotfl2:. Wow! He's planning ahead!

We're in the home stretch, everyone! Let's do this!

Funny that you are seeing a doc near me and my Thursday appointment is near you. Go figure.

OK, I am a little late in asking this question, but here goes.

I have not received a single e-mail from RunDisney. I signed up for the e-mail notifications of when the races open up and I didn't get one for W&D, marathon weekend or the Princess 1/2. I have not received any communication regarding the W&D including the "final instructions" e-mail. The odd thing is that my DH is getting all of them. We have different e-mails but we signed up at the same time. I registered both of us on the same day (individually) for the race and yet I have received nothing. I have the race confirmations and that is it. Any ideas? How can I get back on the mailing list? Fortunately, I have the information because I asked DH to forward anything from Active.com or RunDisney to me.

Can't wait to leave next Thursday :)

Haven't been running in 2 weeks due to shin splints. Legs feeling much better, but DD 10, asked me to play in her last soccer practice tonight.
Of course, I found some old cleats, tall socks and tight shorts an played. Had fun, ran all over, scored a goal or 2 and played some good d.
I haven't used these fast twitch muscles in years.

Yep, strained a calf and quad - lol, can't help but laugh as I wrote that. Sitting here with ice on both.
Maybe they will heal quick, one thing is for sure, not running normal pace on race day.

All worth it, she told me she had a blast watching me run around.

Getting so excited!! A week from today we will be on our way!!!
The treadmill was much better last night! I got stuck next to " speedy Gonzales ". It ended up being a good thing, she really pushed me to see how fast I could go :)
Good health and training to all!!!
Melinda

I haven't been around much lately, but wanted to pop in and say WOO! It's almost here! I'm excited! Last year I had a good friend (who's a great runner) there with me to pull me through; this year I'm on my own and a little nervous! I am a few corrals up from where I was last year, and hoping I can beat my time, but preparing for the fact that I probably won't. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you guys there!

Ok, went for my run. Ended up doing around 3.5 but all I can say is... The race MUST be right around the corner because I just had my "crappy run before the race" run. Every race I have a really terrible run somewhere 1-2 weeks before. Tonight was such a run: side stitch, foot cramp, and just a general blah feeling. I know there are practical reasons my run stunk (not proper hydration, or pre run snack, or energy sapping day at work-) whatever. I call it part of my training. Better now than next week during the race.

Also, another of my random running thoughts tonight was: "respect the short run. Cause it can still kick your butt." I always "fear" the long runs but tonight's short run reminded me that even just a few miles can be tough (didn't help that I did some extra hills I suppose. Oops)
