The obscure song thread

OK Here's the chorus (with the title *ed out). If you cant get it from this, you've never heard the song.

"*** *** **
We had a real love
She just didnt think we could put it all together
*** *** **
We had a real love
But in a flash, shes gone forever"

A bit more info: The song was a top 40 hit in 1980 for about 20 minutes.

No, I don't think I've ever heard it. I'm usually very good at this too, it's embarrassing!

Mine is from the mid-80s, a one-hit-wonder band. It begins:

I'll be your loaded dice
you're holding all the cards
you set the tone whenever I'm with you

Well Teejay, you stumped both me and my officemate.

The name of mine was "Why not me"

OK, this one should be easy...

"Murial plays the piano
every friday at the Hollywood"

Teejay, I can't get yours or WDWHound's at all! You guys are good!

Yes, that song was Dear Prudence. The British band Siouxsie and the Banshees also covered it in the early 80s.

I know there's a few out there already, but here's some lyrics from one of my all-time fave songs:

And of all those kinds of people, you've got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home and
Share the same space for a minute or two

Teejay:

Your song is by "Face-to-face". It's called ten-nine-eight, I believe. End of the eighties' punk stuff. I have it in an import compilation.

WDWHound: I never heard your song or the name of the singer.

The one I posted before is from the movie One-on-one (Good job Teejay), and it is called "My Fair Share".

Here goes another 70's-80's obscurity, impossible to get on cd:

I don't have to try to love you
It just happes naturally
I don't close my eyes to touch you
I don't have to make believe

Wanna give it a shot?

Muriel is Walking on Memphis.. I love Marc Cohn.. he grew up in the town I used to live in (Shaker Hts, OH!)

Joe: I haven't a clue (and I thought I was good at this). A clue is hereby requested.

And yes, mine was Marc Cohn's Walking in Memphis. A great song from a fantasic Album.

WDWHound:

It is a beautiful song by a solo artist. It plays regularly in easy listening or romantic stations. He had a dog named "Boo"....... ;-)

Like I said, it has never been released on cd. If you like Marc Cohn, I am sure you love this other artist's music.

BTW Doc, how was the concert??? Lucky you!
I love the Indigo Girls .... "I'll just sit around the house and resist, and not be seen until I cease to exist. Kind of conscientious objection..." That's my fave.

It was ok. It was the first time I had ever seen them. I haven't really bought any of their stuff since the early 90's, so I was a little out of the loop. I got my ticet late and sat up in the balcony with maybe 100 other people, so it didn't even seem like a concert (I could only see the first two rows of the crowd on the floor, so it really seemed like there was no one there!) I LOOOVED when they played "Kid Fears," but they didn't play "Least Complicated"! That's my favorite released song, too. But they did play "Galileo" and "Closer to Fine" of course, so it's all good. :)

Hey... I wasn't being mean with the 'not an obscure song' comment. It's probably obscure to a lot of people! And their lyrics (Duran Duran) have always been strange, don't you think?

Sounds like Lobo. You're right, I did like his music, but I can't place this song.

Hi Doc, no! I didn't think you were being mean at all....I didn't post the Duran Duran lyric anyway.

I was a huge Durannie though, saw them in concert in 1984 in Toronto. Their lyrics have always been strange. This one's been bugging me ... what's the name of that song of theirs that goes: "Way down the lane away, living for another day, the aphids swarm up in the misting haze." Something about a porter? I can't remember, maybe you know.

I just have to ask if anyone has heard any Badly Drawn Boy ... this is current ... I've just come across his work and it's really excellent.

:D

:D

Is that The Chauffeur? (sp?) I haven't heard it in years, but it has the one part that goes ".... to your bea-ting heart"? I can't place those lyrics definitely, but I think that's it. It's slow and has a haunting sound. I remember the video that I saw on a Duran Duran video disc (remember the discs that were huge, like 18"x18" or so?). It had topless flat-chested women in it  I think that was the first time I ever saw boobs!

Never heard Badly Drawn Boy, but I think I've seen that name before. What does he sound like? I really need to download Kazaa or something.

Thanks Doc! You're right...it was the Chauffeur. Singgg blue silver!

Badly Drawn Boy ... I can't put my finger on how to describe his music... it's just GOOD. Go to www.badlydrawnboy.co.uk and you can listen to snippets from each song on his new album. Listen to All Possibilities and You Were Right.

Sorry, I won't go off topic again! Any other lyrics? :D

You got ir WDWHoud. Lobo it is. IMHO this is his best song, together with "Id love you to want me"...the name of the song is "Spendin' time, makin' Love and Goin' Crazy" It is hard, but possible to download it. I got it from a radio station DJ.

Heard these on the radio yesterday. (Trying to stump Joe now. :teeth: ) More mid-80's semi-obscurity:

i got it bad
you don't know how bad i got it
you got it easy
you don't know when you got it good

and

I started drifting to a different place
I realized I was falling off the face of your world
And there was nothing left to bring me back...

Hmmm, I'm not sure I have heard that Lobo tune, but then its been a long time since I heard any Lobo exept "Boo" and "I'love you to want me".

OK, we need a another song or 2 out there. Lets see if we can get a few more people playing. Try this one from the seventies:

"Looking at you I wanted to say
I think a little emotion goes a long long way
Careful now don't get caught in no dreams
Look out baby this is not what it seems
Ooo baby you've been so good to me."

And another one from the seventies. This one is not so obscure, but it was a one hit wonder:

"She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the winds grew wild"

Teejay's first is Nik Kershaw, Wouldn't It Be Nice. He wore a glowing suit in this video, if I remember correctly.

Man, you beat me to another of my faves. So, I'll correct you by saying it's Wouldn't It Be Good. :teeth: I don't remember seeing the video or hearing it on the radio; I just remember it was in one of those Pretty-In-Pink-type movies.
