The obscure song thread

ok, mine was "A Million Miles Away" by the Plimsouls.

Snoopy's was something like "Rockin" by Stevie Ray Vaughn.

For Jen, early 90's British stuff:

Stretching away as far as my eyes can see
Deserts and darkness, my hand on the wheel
loverboy, please call me home
A girl can get lonely out here on the road

THat doesn't sound familiar, TJ, and the 70's stuff is too early for me.

I'll give lyrics from the OTHER hit by my British band, 1993. This one got a lot more radio play.

My therapist said not to see you no more
She said you're like a disease without any cure
She said I'm so obsessed that I'm becoming a bore

...

Moved out of the house, so you moved next door
I locked you out, you cut a hole in the wall
I found you sleeping next to me; I thought I was alone
You're driving me crazy; when are you coming home?

WDWHound, you're right, DH pointed that out to me last night as I typed that Bruce Springsteen had the more popular version of Blinded by the Light. I don't know why I remember his version more, maybe it was on one of his albums I listened to a lot. In any case, that song probably has more of the most misunderstood lyrics than any other song. :teeth:

Teejay, the artist is Stevie Ray Vaughan, but the song is called The House is Rockin.

Have no idea of yours, Doc Rafikki, or Teejay's other one she posted. Someone put something up that I know, and I'll continue playing. :teeth:

drmadman, the song is Blinded by the Light. Was the original band Manfredd Mann? Something like that. Bruce Springsteen, of course, made it popular.

Correct. But it's the other way around. Bruce Springsteen wrote and recorded it originally. Manfred Mann did the cover that got most of the Top 40 play.

OK, Heres an easy one. The artist here had a much bigger hit later on, but I believe this was his first hit. This comes from the mid 80's.

"He is closer now and the search is on, reading from a map in the mind:
Yes there's that ragged hill and there's a boat on the river."

"Don't Pay the Ferryman" Chris De Burgh

Okay, here's back at ya...fairly easy. Song and Artist

How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealing kisses from me on the sly
Taking time to make time
Telling me that he’s all mine
Learning from each other’s knowing
Looking to see how much we’ve grown

Yup. thanks dmadman. You are now officially the 3rd person who has pointed that fact out to me. :teeth:

Why is it that I really don't remember the Manfredd Man one as much?

Your last one seems familiar, gotta think on it.

Laid

by James ?

Yes, Laid by James. The first one I posted by them was Seven.

I wish I had gotten that one, Doc! You think you're so pretty...ee...ee...ee!

Here's more lyrics to the song I posted earlier, which seems to have been overlooked. This is early 80s.

I feel numb, born with a weak heart,
I guess I must be having fun.
I can't tell one from another, did I find you
or you find me? There was a time
before we were born, if someone asked
this is where I'll be, where I'll be.

This Must Be The Place - Talking Heads

Geez!!!! I've been mising all the fun!!!!!!!

Here's some Early nineties Euro Mega-Cheese (I love those songs): Here's just part of the chorus:

"Smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can"

If anybody wants Lobo's song, just drop me a PM with your email and I will be happy to send this gem of a song to you.

As for "Blinded by the Light", I like Manfred Mann's version best of all.

And yet another awesome eighties song most people don't know by name. I am sure most of you have heard it. Can you name it?

"So you wanna be a-- rock and roll star
Well, times have-- changed, that's all I say
You still need-- an electric guitar
But most of all you need that radio radio play
All day, all day, play and play and play

Hey Joe, your first song is I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, but I don't know the name of the band. I recognize the second, but can't put my finger on it.

Here's an 80s dance song:

She wakes up early in the morning just to do her hair now
Because she cares y'all
Her hair wouldn't be right without her makeup
She's never outta makeup
She's just like you and me, but she's homeless, she's homeless.

[Hey Joe, your first song is I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, but I don't know the name of the band. I recognize the second, but can't put my finger on it.]

Sorry Mivvers:

Not even close. Rose Garden was by Lynn ANderson back in the 60's and there was a later similarly named song by Stevie Nicks...but not the one I posted.

As for the second song...it is incredibly popular and yet most people don't know the name.

As for yours, it is Crystal Waters' Gypsy Woman.

Really Joe? I can hear those lyrics in my head and I was sure that the next two lines were "I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden". It's dancy, and a woman sings it. Guess I'm wrong ... what would the next two lines be (if that doesn't give it away)?

Big club hymn in the early 90's all over the world (sort of like Chumbawamba's Tubthumping). The name of my song has a lot to do with Lynn Anderson's song's lyrics, but that is where the similarities end.

"There once was a time and there once was a way
We had something going and to my dismay
Attention to me seemed to drift though I don't know where

And when we're alone seems there's nothing to say
I bring up a topic and you push it away
You say that you do but I think it's just you don't care
Why do I feel you're using me"

......Do you want to hustle?
Do you want to salsa?"

Look it up again ;-)

Sorry mivvers. Didn't mean to make you feel bad. This is a nice thread, let's not get resentful. The name of the song is "Beg your Pardon" by Kon Kan.

I was unaware those lyrics were used by Kon Kan (truthfully, I've never heard of Kon Kan), but Mivvers is correct that they are used in I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. Of course, its not an early 90's tune, but I understand the confusion.

Once again, I don't recognize a single tune posted (who's bright idea was it to start an obcsure song thread anyway? (LOL)), so I'll throw out another one. This one got a lot of airplay in 1970, but I haven't heard of the artist since then:

"Did you know I go to sleep and
Leave the lights on
Hoping you'd come by and know
That I was home and still awake
But two years go by and still
My light's on
This is hard for me to say
But it is all that I can take"

Now you've done it. I'll have this song in my head the rest of the evening.
