The obscure song thread

WDW Hound, was that last one called Thunder Island?

Another one, not so obscure, from the mid 80's, a duet of two of my favorite artists:

in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

That's a great one -- Don't Give Up by Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel.

Wonder if anyone knows this, mid-80s, American band, semi-obscure back then:

Sometimes I feel like I can't even sleep
I'm very scared for this world, I'm very scared for me
Eviscerate your memory, here's the scene:
You're in the backseat laying down
The windows wrap around to the sound
and the travel of the engine.

I definately know that one! Its REM's You Are The Everything.

Oops, the first line should read:

Sometimes I feel like I can't even sing

(I must be tired!)

Bravo. I'm impressed. Not many people remember Thunder Island.

The other one in that post is from the same year. Its definitely more obsure, so I'll give a hint. It contains the word "Bam".

OMG, that's one of my favorite R.E.M. songs! Again! Again! I want to guess one!

Here's another one, 80's:

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light...
And to the day

OK here's one from the early 90's, played on alt radio, by my favorite band that never made it huge (but has a big following)

Understand the world we're living in
Love can mean anything

 don't know that one, TJ (or WDWHound)

Arrrrrgggg!!!! I know this one. I know I know this one. It just wont quite pop up out of storage!

Here's another, not really obscure, but maybe people will have to think about it. I mourned this artists death as if it were a family member:

Walkin' up the street you can hear the sound,
of some bad honky tonkers really layin' it down
They've seen it all for years and got nothin' to lose,
so get down on the floor shimmy 'til you shake sumpin' loose

believe it or not I know that one Snoops! But I don't know the name.

Jen rings a bell, maybe a few more lines....WDWHound's doesn't. I'll add some more to my unguessed one, this is the beginning:

Friday night, I just got back
I had my eyes shut, was dreaming bout the past
I thought about you while the radio played
I should have got moving, some reason I stayed

Mine rings a bell? Funny, this band has a song titled Ring the Bells. Here are more lyrics to the one I was posting:

God made love to me
Soothed away my gravity
Made me a pair of angel's wings
Clear vision and some magic things

God is love to me
Thank you for those things
Understand the world we're living in
Love can mean anything

(early 90's British, some alt radio play)

And I thought I was good at this (LOL). So far I've only gotten one. I don't recognize any of the ones currently up.

As for mine, one more hint and then I'll give it up as being too obscure. Besides containing the word "Bam", it also contains the word "Wham" (and no, George Micheal had nothing to do with it). These two words figure very prominantly in the song.

Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who still remembers this dippy little song.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I have heard that Lobo tune, but then its been a long time since I heard any Lobo exept "Boo" and "I'love you to want me".

OK, we need a another song or 2 out there. Lets see if we can get a few more people playing. Try this one from the seventies:

"Looking at you I wanted to say
I think a little emotion goes a long long way
Careful now don't get caught in no dreams
Look out baby this is not what it seems
Ooo baby you've been so good to me."

"Wham Bam Shang a Lang" by that ever popular group, Silver

1976, I believe..

Okay, how about this one

Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer, playin' backyard bombardier
Yes, and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a calling card, he said, "Do what you like, but don't do it here"
Well, I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground and asked him which was the way back home

But, I want the original artist and title.

Yeah, and people in Hell want ice water! :p

LOL. Okay, the hint is the popular version of this song was done by a band known for covering the original artists work.

drmadman, the song is Blinded by the Light. Was the original band Manfredd Mann? Something like that. Bruce Springsteen, of course, made it popular.

Dmadman got it! You even got the group right. Wham Bam Shang-a-lang was one of those songs that was all over the radio for about 3 days, then vanished without a trace.

Regarding Blinded by the light. I beleive it was written by Springsteen, but Manfred Man had a bigger hit with it (not the other way around). I actually like Manfred Mans version better. It has a bit more life to it.

OK, Heres an easy one. The artist here had a much bigger hit later on, but I believe this was his first hit. This comes from the mid 80's.

"He is closer now and the search is on, reading from a map in the mind:
Yes there's that ragged hill and there's a boat on the river."
