Has anyone here seen this movie yet? Although it's been out for a while, I saw it for the first time last night and thought it was AMAZING. I never knew Rachel McAdams ("Mean Girls") or Ryan Gosling ("Remember the Titans") were capable of such outstanding performances! It was such a beautiful story and had me in tears throughout the entire second half. Great movie.
(LOL so great, I devoted my signature to it!)

Any other reviews? Did you like/dislike it?

Can't wait to see it! I've heard that the whole theater is reduced to tears in no time. I've read all of his books and will be going soon to see it. (FYI - his memoir "Three weeks with my brother" is one of the best books I've read and explains to some degree why he wrote the various books he has completed)

What's it about?

This is from www.imdb.com:

The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Nelson and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie's parents who dissaprove of Noah's unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets a handsome young soldier named Lon. He proposes to her, she accepts, and they are engaged. Allie, then, with doubts in her mind and her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah's 200-year-old home "to see if he's okay". It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her first love and the man her parents approve of.

I saw it opening day. Loved it, loved it, loved it! The entire theater (full of women) was in tears. Very well done.

Saw it 2 times! last weekend and today..loved it!! i cried, i laughed..the whole theater was in tears!

I'll have to wait to see it if the whole theatre was in tears! I don't like crying in public!
Sounds like a good movie though!

I LOVED IT!! I was just talking to my mom about going to see it again!! I thought that it was such a good-feeling, sweet movie and all of the scenes were so beautiful. I saw it with my mom and grandma and we all left with red eyes.

Saw it with a friend Thursday night and really did enjoy the movie. It almost was comical at how loud some of the women in the theater were sobbing. I usually get all emotional at movies but couldn't to much with all the crying around me. My friend and I did discuss how a girl during that time period would not be quite that "randy" especially in public. I really enjoyed the parts with James Garner and Gena Rowland. They are two of my favorites.

We counted 4 men in the theater. One was a teenage boy with three girls. Some guys will do anything to impress a girl.

My DD has seen it twice. Loved it. But she did confess to laughing at the end when the rest of the theater was crying. She claims it was corny. Her friends have said she's cold as ice.

This is the same kid that cries at movies that aren't even that sad - but she said something about the very end of this one just seems kind of corny. Haven't seen it, so I can't say.

I loved this movie. Everyone was crying, some quite loud. One poor man was in the theatre with all of us women crying, he will probably be traumatized for some time. I bought the book some time ago and only read the first chapter, i'll have to hunt it up now and read it. Susan

I'm almost afraid to post since the reviews seem so positive here, but I really hated the book. I found it to be trite and hackneyed, and I finished the book in about an hour and a half, and it's an hour and a half of my life that I want back. The only reason I finished it was because my mom said it was good and I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did. :(

Did anyone read the book and watch the movie? Were they the same?

I read the book and saw the movie. I liked the book. I loved the movie. I was really surprised at how well they made the movie to follow the book. The very end was a little different but I liked it.

I just finished The Wedding last night.... That was GREAT book.... I loved it.

Ok, now you made me REALLY want to see the movie. I have The Wedding but I haven't read it yet.

I loved the book, but I didn't care much for the movie. I think if the two men in the movie played the opposite part, I may have "felt" it more. The movie was just not how I pictured the book.
