The age old adage is “nothing new on race day,” but today I was very happy to buck that advice and not only start but finish the marathon with
@marty3d , my first time ever running a race with someone else!
My knee was twinging before the start of the race, and I had expected to “run” it solo, with no clue whether I was even going to be able to finish. Teaming up with Marty in the corral turned out to be incredibly motivating during all the difficult moments, and I know I wouldn’t have finished anywhere near as quickly, or as safely, without him.
(Although his definition of “left” might need some review

…and I definitely didn’t help matters by announcing we only had a 10K left at the 19 mile marker, so mistakes were made by all.)
We still managed to have some fun along the way, seeing
@The Expert twice between the TTC and EPCOT, riding Expedition Everest, and stopping for a few photos. I still maintain he was being kind and staying back with me, but either way, I’m very grateful for the motivation and company all the way to the finish.
