The "No DVC for me" blues thread

I am sure that I am not the only person who reads the DVC boards regularly but cannot actually purchase a contract (for whatever reason). I thought I'd create a thread where we can commiserate together.

For me, my husband does not love Disney as much as I do. He loves the idea of spending $$$ on a Timeshare even less!

I'm hoping I can persuade him to consider it when we stay at BLT in December. However, it's very unlikely.

It nearly broke my heart the other day when someone got my dream contract (100 loaded BLT points for $85/pt). I was so sad to have missed that one!

Stay in a resort that he would really enjoy, maybe with some better Disney theming. What does he like to do? Focus on the park that matches his interests.

Don't lose heart. My DH grudgingly put up with my and 3 DD's Disney habit for years. Once he discovered the dining plan (we're WAY past that now with TIW) and DVC he has become the Disney Nut. He freely admits that he used to hate it because it always felt like he had his wallet out. Now it "feels" things are pre-paid or at least cheaper. He always want to go now.

Don't worry, there will always be another "perfect" contract.

It took a long time before my DH agreed to even consider it. However after renting points 3 times so far, (actually 4 times counting our upcoming trip in July), he changed his mind about it. And now we have been putting offers on contracts. But DH does not love Disney like I do. He thinks I have been brainwashed and so have our kids lol. Give your husband some time and maybe he will come around. It helps to make it their idea.

You guys are giving me some hope that he'll come around. My DH's idea of a vacations is being outdoorsy (hiking, skiing, the beach, etc).

We are blessed to be able to take more than one vacation a year so he can still enjoy his style of vacationing. Even though we won't go to Disney every year, perhaps he'll warm up to the idea if I find a way to make it fun for him as well. Keeping my fingers crossed!

My DH is the same way. He actually loathes WDW and has been a couple times, but has no desire to return. He did agree to DVC about 5 years ago because he knows how happy it makes me and DS. He knew that DS and I would keep vacationing at WDW no matter what, so he went along with the purchase.

He did enjoy a trip to Disney's Vero Beach this summer though. He would love to return there.

One option would be to try and incorporate a day of things he might like into your WDW vacation. You mention he's an outdoorsy type, you could plan a morning to take the boat over to fort wilderness and go horseback riding, hike or take a hay ride. If he's into golf, you could add the waterpark and more option to your tickets and he could play the 9 hole Oak Trail Golf Course. Since you're going in Dec, you could combine that with going to MVMCP in the evening.

Yup, that's like my DH. Eleven years ago, he tolerated my Disney addiction and agreed to buy DVC begrudgingly. Now he tells everyone how it was the best thing he ever did! I must admit that when we go, he plays golf every morning, while I go to a park alone, then we meet up for lunch and either continue park touring, or go back and relax at the resort pool. Both of us are happy with this arrangement.

That's why I bought BEFORE I got married! I wasn't taking any chances of marrying someone who didn't want DVC....

Luckily I found DH who now probably plans more DVC trips than I do!

Just what I was going to recommend. Also there is parasailing, fishing, enjoying those tiny little boats around the lake which are fun. The Richard Petty race car driving experience. And on your disney trips you could also incorporate a day outside of disney doing something outdoorsy he enjoys. There is so much that FL has to offer we often forget when we are focused on going to disney.

Don't loose hope some just take longer to partake of the disney koolade!

Ok... So my DH is the same way. We do a "outdoor" vacation and Disney. I was fortunate enough to be "gifted" DVC through my mom. This has given me the opportunity to show him Disney is much more than Mickey Mouse... We do not do the parks morning,noon and night. He goes golfing... We eat... (And then run around so we dont gain 10lbs on vacation!) While character meals are fun we try and get out to a "grown up" location (last trip we went to Cali Grill) I make sure he gets to the pool, sleeps on the couch and that I try to make sure we have things he will enjoy doing. There is a lot of activities aside from the parks like boat rentals, bike rentals, golfing, running trails etc....

DH is now wanting to add so we can do large family trips, food & wine, flower and garden etc.... So it's possible just try and find things that he will love to do

My SO (we have never bothered to get married) doesn't do Disney. I do. We live. Life isn't a three legged race. Having different interests gives us something to talk about . Now if we were married he probably would veto my DVC, but now he just rolls his eyes LOL

Maybe one day! DH and I first looked at DVC in 2005 and while he loves Disney he just couldn't see paying that kind of money for it. This summer we went on the DVC tour just for the VIP fast passes and by September we were members. DH is a numbers guy so once he really broke it down he realized the benefit.

DH liked Disney, staying at Values.....then I pulled the DVC trigger....now he is on the bandwagon big time...it was all his idea (yes I encourage that thought, and he picked the resort)...we go and take it slow now....maybe a park, maybe not....Disney is now a relaxing vacation.

If you build Disney around him....he will come....over to the dark side. Of course the occasional Spock/Jedi Mind trick works too.
