Is anyone else glad that Appleman is gone? He was a classic bully where his idea of "winning" was to sabotoge everyone else. What a nasty little man.

Yes, I was glad to see him go. I had a feeling it was going to be this week anyway since they spent so much camera time highlighting his arrogance.

The best part was how surprised he was.

YES! DH and I cheered when he got the boot! What a creep!

I love this show. Yes, I'm glad Appleman is gone, although I thought he had some good dishes. I'm rooting for Amanda Frietag. I really like her now, even though I didn't when I saw her on the show Chopped. She puts her all into it.

I also was glad to see him go but I also think Mehta is just as bad. I want him gone next.

DH and I have been watching the last few episodes. I actually liked him, thought he was an excellent chef. Problem was, he knew it and it never occurred to him that someone could be better at something than him.

I didn't mind him until this last episode. Yes, he was cocky, but how can you not be and try to be an Iron Chef?

But how in G-d's name can you stand there and say, "It was a winner" all the way to the end when you're cooking a type of cuisine you not only have never cooked, but know nothing about??? That's what got me, and I believe what got the judges.

And Chef Mehta was ready to spit nails when he didn't win! What a blow!

I only caught the last 10 minutes of the show. I really don't get the concept of this show. If you have to compete & prove you are an Iron Chef, then you really aren't one. :confused3 The Iron Chefs they have on the original shows are all world reknown Masters. Their food & reputations are known worldwide. :worship:

These contestants seem like cheap knockoffs. Is one of these chefs really going to stand up there at the beginning of the regular Iron Chef show after (s)he wins and compete against other chefs as though (s)he is at their caliber? It seems like Bobby Flay could knock any of the chefs I saw, right off their podiums. :confused3

SO glad to see that cocky little...um...PERSON...gone! ;) Couldn't stand Appleman. He reminded me of the Dr. Romano character on the old ER, he LOOKED like him and acted like him too.

I'm also a Freitag fan, I like seeing how she has grown. I don't really care for Mehta either but I think he has a good shot at being the next chef, I'm betting they are looking for "diversity".

The Tokyo challenges should be fun to watch! :thumbsup2

I like Freitag, too. I wonder if Iron Chef is looking for a particular type of chef to fill the role - Indian food, Mexican food, woman, etc. and that's one of the reasons they are choosing the way they are choosing.

I was thinking the same thing last show. I really like Chef Mehta and I think he is an accomplished Chef but wondered if the producers were trying to hand him a win. An Indian food competitian with an Indian Chef cooking?

I don't watch Iron Chef America often so I do not know who is still on that show or if they are looking to add another dynamic. As a PP said, maybe a more international flair or another woman.

Michael Symon won last time and he's now one of THE iron chefs. Just because you aren't known all over the world doesn't mean you're not good enough to be an Iron Chef. That's what they are trying to prove.

I am also pulling for Chef Freitag and am thrilled Appleman is gone. I also want Chef Mehta gone soon--he is so annoying!

I love Michael Symon! I must confess I boycott Bobby Flay ever since he competed against Morimoto and was a poor loser.

We love both Michael Symon and Bobby Flay.

As for this season, we're rooting for Chef Mehta. I want to like Chef Freitag but she just has the worst facial expressions. She always looks like a cross between angry as hell and smelling something bad.

You are right, she does always look angry. I think the producers may have spoken to her, though, because I have noticed in the last couple of shows she seems to be smiling a lot of really big smiles.
