The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Hi,

I've been missing for a few days because my LO was in the hospital. We're going to be checked out today and are just waiting for the nurse to come and give us our paperwork.

I figured I could write a quick note while we were waiting. He had a cold and icky nose for a few days. He had trouble breathing on Tuesday night so I took him to the ER. They did a breathing treatment and it didn't seem to help so we were admitted to the PICU. We stayed there yesterday and last night. He's doing much better now, but I will fill in the gaps once we are back home and settled. Looks like I have a lot to catch up on!

Mainly a lot of chit chat from today. Before that it was kinda quiet. I'm sorry to hear about the hospitalization. Hope all is much MUCH better now. Let me guess.... RSV?

Oh no! Hope everything is okay now. I'm sure it'll be nice to be home!

Hopefully Lily will like the solids more and more. Have you tried fruits yet or just veggies? how about yogurt? Allison wasn't sure about the yogurt at first and now she can't get enough!!

WOW- I just wrote a novel.... SORRY!

Ha! Nothing like my novel describing yesterday's adventures! I appreciated the details!

She's doing fruits and veggies and oatmeal. I almost picked up some yogurt the other day, but figured we'd wait until she's eating more of the mixed jars of food.

She still will only eat maybe 4 or 5 spoonfulls, even when she really, really likes it. I would feel like it was the timing of the feedings, but my mom and aunt have tried all kinds of different things. :confused3

We have been slowly implementing solids. Right now she gets baby oatmeal with a couple tbsp of fruit in the morning and then several tablespoons of veggies at night. Next week or so I'm going to start giving more finger type foods. Like steamed/roasted veggies cut up small, maybe cheese, cherrios, things like that. I see these puffs, which I like how they melt away, but I read the ingredients and was surprised there was sugar in the ingredients. It didn't look like a lot though.

Is anybody anti-puffs?

That's what I'm planning too! I have some puffs at home that a friend got us, but haven't tried them yet.

I did give her a biter's biscuit before I read the package that said it was for 9mos+. She didn't through much of it. But my aunt gave her one that she ate almost all of. She was MISERABLE the next day--all kinds of tummy troubles.

Why is food and sleep so flipping hard?! :headache:

puffs only have 1g of sugar per 1/2 cup serving (quite a bit of them). Cherrios have 1g of sugar per 1 cup serving. I am not too worried about that small amount of sugar. Cherrios actually make me nervous bc they are so hard. Allison prefers the puffs over the cherrios, she will actually eat around the cherrios when give some of each.

Good luck with the finger food. That is when things get more fun!

Don't worry, I'm sure the next one will make up for it. :lmao:

I don't doubt that a bit! :scared1:
I've had chronic insomnia since I was 9. I've done meds, sleep therapy, sleep studies, etc. nothing helps.
I slept amazingly while I was pregnant with Lucas. :cloud9:
I sleep like crap now (again). I finally fell asleep at about 2:30am last night (went to bed at 8 :headache:) and Lucas woke up at 6! :headache::headache::headache: I'm pretty sure this is my first sign that this baby is going to do me in. :lmao:
And yes.. I'm dead serious, he has never had a blow out. I'm so screwed. I've been spoiled by my first born!

ShootingStar, I hope everything is okay! Glad you get to go home today.

I really want to introduce more foods to Lucas but I'm such a wuss because I'm afraid it will have some trace of dairy and it'll bug him. Odds are, he's already outgrown the intolerance. Or I'm hoping so. We go to the pediatrician Monday for his 9 month and I plan to talk to them about what my options are.
He gets a piece of toast every night while we eat. It keeps him from getting too mad at us for eating... and he can handle it by himself so it works well.
I bought some soy yogurt at Krogers which I mix with cereal. I have sooooo much cereal from a sale Krogers had before I was on WIC (they were B1G1 with coupons on the boxes.. so I got like 6 and now WIC buys 3 and we're drowning in cereal!)
Beyond baby food i've given him cut green beans, cooked elbow macaroni and peas. I thought about steaming some carrot slices semi-soft and seeing how he does with those. He makes such a mess. :rotfl:
I'm not sure what else to do... no milk, no plain yogurt, no cheese, no cottage cheese.

Would he be able to chew an apple if I sliced it up? Or should I steam it first? I really need to get him on more solids and less bottle.

Patsy:
1. I totally think Diesel is an AWESOME name! lmao
2. I know you don't like to read outside info, but I found a great site to help with introducing foods http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/solids.htm
I know there is something about the apple peel...maybe it doesn't digest well? And you have to be more careful with slippery stuff. I guess it can be more of a choking hazard for some reason? One of the best things we had luck with Lily was whole peaches. I eat the skin and she goes to town on the rest. :teeth:

Oh Sarah.... no matter how short I think the trip will be I always always always bring at least 2 complete changes of clothes for each baby. I travel w/ 1 large overstuffed diaper bag. :) We've had the exploding baby experience enough to know it can happen anywhere, anytime and sometimes multiple times! Such fun! I also bring a second bag of extra stuff diapers, wipes, clothes, formula, etc if it may be an all day affair.
I'll second that. We always pack way too many diapers and wipes in the diaper bag allong with extra clothes, bibs, and burp cloths.

On top of that, we keep an 'emergency bag' in both of our cars with diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, bib, burp cloth, changing pad, an extra bottle, enough powder for a couple of bottles, a bottle of water, anti-gas and a pacifier. This bag has gotten alot of use; schedules change, accidents happen, and we have occasionally walked out of the house without the primary bag.

Yeah, I've been through that site when I started making Lucas' food a few months back.

I know that he can't have citrus because of that site. :rotfl:

Come to think of it, I read a recipe in American Baby that said to steam some apples with some cinnamon for a "holiday treat"... I thought that was a little crazy. Like Lucas cares if he gets festive food, as long as he gets food! :rotfl:

...and I'm SO against Diesel. Are you kidding me?! He was flipping through the book last night and I about punched him when he suggested that! :scared:

Diesel rocks! :rotfl: Seriously though, do you guys have names you're tossing around?

You are totally lucky to not have blowouts. I swear that is all Alex ever has...I have to be sure to bring 2 changes of clothes and plenty of wipes. His last blowout I only had THREE wipes in my travel case. Thank goodness I was in a bathroom and was able to clean him up with TP! :rotfl:

I was just on Beachnut's website reading food info because work is so slow...Guess I'm headed over to wholesomefoods site now! :teeth:

Uhhh... Chanon. You do remember what my last name is, right? :rotfl:

I wish I could say we had some names, but we don't. I might be crazy but I want names before we know the sex. I liked that we went into the ultrasound for Lucas and we knew what the names were. So when she said "It's a boy" it was Lucas. He was Lucas from there on out to us (and our lovely ultrasound tech. :) )
I am going to force DH to go through the baby name book with me, I think. Start with A's and boys and write the ones we like and try to narrow it down. Not sure what else to do.
We had no issues coming to an agreement on Lucas. Neither of us really remember talking about it at all!

Thanks guys.. even my mom thought I was nuts for worrying about it. I am.. Vinny's birthday is today, and I baked a up a little cake for him, and decorated it. We will get cupcakes. Ill do Jasmines later tonight. We are just giving them cake after dinner. We are going to have cake two nights ina row. Cuz we can. ;):lmao:

Im impressed you have names already Patsy.. With my first I did, but it took us forever to get names for the twins. We dont tell family until the babies are born. We did that with Kaylee too. But then we werent 100% on her name until she was born.

My name is Megan.. I am on facebook. Megan Sweetin...

I was kidding aout Diesel!! lol Is he serious?

DH wants to name a boy Phalan. It means "Son of the Ruler." I thought he was just kidding, but he brings it up so often I fear he has started to actually like the name. It sounds way too much like a word that would get him teased unmercifully to me.

I may very well be going insane... but has anyone else noticed that all Huggies diapers are not created equally??

I have been wearing myself out lugging Lucas up and down the stairs every time he has a dirty diaper, so I decided to set up a diaper changing area down here. Went upstairs got the necessary supplies and came back downstairs to discover that the diaper out of the package I brought down doesn't fit him that well.

Which led this comparison. Diaper on the left is from the package I have open in his nursery, diaper on the right is from the package I brought downstairs. Both are Huggies Snug-N-Dry Size 4.

Notice the the one on the left is much fatter than the one on the right. The Mickey print is the same on the front (though the one on the right is much more vivid and clear) but the design on the back differs.

The little wings are different, too. The fatter diaper is much stretchier and the sticky area seems to stick better.

So that concludes my totally insane discovery and comparison for today.

I bet that they've been recently redesigned and you got stuck with an old box.

sbell-- Those are gorgeous!!!

Patsy--were they from the same type of bag? Is one just more squished than the other? I find that the ones in boxes tend to be bagged VERY tightly, while the normal bagged ones are much more loose.

Now, print and tabs, I've seen a lot of variation in.

Ok I'm going to try a go at breastfeeding again and was wondering when I should expect the hind milk to pass to him during the feeding? Also when should I change breasts? Thanks

Nope, I don't buy boxes (except the Overnites) because I can get better deals on the smaller packages with coupons. You can tell they did a revamp not too long ago because they changed how many diapers are in a package. Another benefit of buying from CVS/Rite Aid is that they had more of the older ones with more diapers per package. These, though, both had the same number in them. So I'm baffled! I found it interesting. I was a bit irritated because they really don't fit him so great. I was looking over the package and saw the customer service number and was tempted.
Then I realized that made me a totally crazy neurotic stay-at-home mom with too much time on her hands.

I'm just going to put them in a trash bag, labeled, for this next kid. Hopefully the next pack I open won't be the same way.

I never could figure out when it was hind milk. I think it depends on how fast your flow is. I would leave him on the same breast for at least 20 minutes. If he starts fussing, attempt to burp and then re-latch to the same breast. If he starts fussing again then move to the other breast. Then for the next feeding start on the breast you finished on from the last feeding (I hope that makes sense). Honestly, it doesn't really matter. The baby is smarter than we are! Just keep putting him to the breast and it will up your supply a lot!

My biggest issue was keeping her awake for feedings. She would fall asleep in my arms everytime. By 3 weeks she definitely woke up!
