The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

So I had to stop br feeding this week because I have been sick for the past 2 weeks and wasn't getting any better. I was on amoxicillin with no change. I ended up with pneumonia and didn't have much choice. I was planning to stop when she turned one anyways, but it is so bitter sweet.

I can't believe that she will be one in 2 weeks!

*Eta* Has anyone ever done the MOMS club thing? I found a local chapter. They don't have a website with anything very informative, just e-mail addresses to send a message for more info. I'm tempted. Now that I don't go to class anymore I think it'd be something good to do to get out of the house and for Lucas, too. I'm just not really sure I want to do it by myself... might wait for my friend and try to do it together.
I'm so ready for it to warm up! We live a few blocks from the park and we're definitely going to take advantage before I get too swollen this summer :rotfl: I need to get out of here!!!

Yes! I'm a MOMS Club member of our local group. I cycle, some time I do lots of stuff, sometimes very little. I'd say give it a go. Its a good way to make friends for both you & your little one. Winter for me tends to be an off cycle, but as soon as it warms up I'l start taking the babies to stuff as well as doing park dates with my older son. :) We actually started up a baby play group, but with winter sickies its only met once or twice. I'm sure it'll really get rolling come warmer weather.

Oh I think the limited web presence comes down from "corporate." It's to protect moms & kids from potential predators. I get it. Not realy a concern where I live but I get not publicizing where a bunch of moms & babies may be congregating. So give it a shot, you can always quit / not participate if its not your thing.

Ugh! Luckily it happened now instead of earlier! How are you both handling the transition?

(I can't believe she's that old already either!)

Hey DISMoms :) I'd love to join this thread and community.

My name is Kate, I'm a second time mom to Andrew, born New Years Eve 2009... 9 weeks old today :) And my older son, Michael is 4.5, turning 5 in May. We're celebrating with a trip to Saratoga Springs for his birthday!

I stay home with them both. Challenged with an almost-kindergartener and all the newborn baby stuff that I've forgotten over 4 years !

Thanks in advance for the support and camaraderie. ;)

She did a lot better than I thought. We have only been doing bedtime nursing since mid January so it was the last to go. Over the past few weeks, she has been more interested in watching DH or TV when she is supposed to be nursing. She would nurse for a few minutes then sit up and jump around then a few more sucks, so on and so forth. Needless to say, it was taking longer and longer. She has been waking up at night now since we stopped, but only like once and goes back to sleep. She is also getting another tooth I think- so I blame it on that.

Now she likes that she can watch Jeopardy while she has her nighttime bottle!

So we had an exciting adventure last night.

Oh Sarah.... no matter how short I think the trip will be I always always always bring at least 2 complete changes of clothes for each baby. I travel w/ 1 large overstuffed diaper bag. :) We've had the exploding baby experience enough to know it can happen anywhere, anytime and sometimes multiple times! Such fun! I also bring a second bag of extra stuff diapers, wipes, clothes, formula, etc if it may be an all day affair.

We also only do family friendly restaraunts w/ babies. And I won't subject them to it if they seem too tired or cranky to bear it in good spirits. We may chance it if they seem like they'll sleep through it in their carriers, so just ate or about to eat. :)

Wow yeah, time flies! Pneumonia is nothing to mess around with, so do what you need to do to get better.

But I know how disappointing it is when things go not quite as planned.:hug:

. ;)

Welcome Kate! Depending on the day, we're either very chatty (today) or very quiet. Don't be shy, just jump right on in. We're generally a pretty even tempered & friendly bunch.:hippie:

Disney people are good people. :D
:thumbsup2

Mostly! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

But I've seen Disney people have drama galore on some threads, not so much around these parts ---which given that we could be a bunch of hormone crazed mommies is a pretty little feat.:surfweb:

Whoops! I didn't realize MOMS was a special thing. I was just talking about moms groups I had found.

Eh, no biggie. Its just a little more formally organized. It totally depends on the moms involved as to what each group "feels" like.

Valerie--I have learned my lesson. We only do family friendly restaurants too, but we didn't even make it there inside this time. She's usually an angel.

Welcome Kate!

hotveggy--were you giving her formula instead of milk? Or did her solid intake cover for the milk? Weaning is on my mind a lot lately...we still have at least 4 months (hopefully) but I'm pretty clueless about the process.

Plus at this point, she's barely eating solids...tho it's a lot better than it was.

So, you've all noticed that I've been chatting up a storm here.....;) Its the caffeine. For 2 nights now, the twins have been tag teaming me. I feel like I've been up all night feeding someone.

I think Katies having a growth spurt, but she's so dang busy during the day, she isn't slowing down to get enough calories in. She wakes up all night to get them in half asleep & go back to bed. Which once a night would be OK, but 3X (!!!!!!) is a bit much. Last night it was 9PM (normal) 11:30 (!) 3AM (normal) and 5AM (half bottle) WTH!?!? Oh and Dylan got up to nurse around 3:30 ish right after KAtie went back down. I have to get out of bed at 7AM to get my older son off to school. So I've had 3 large (refillable resort!) mugs of coffee so far.

My mom is coming over to give me a break. Hopefully I can calm down enough to take a nap.

So Katie is a work out baby. Not exactly crawling, but up on hands & knees bouncing & bunny hopping & up to her toes in what we call "downward facing baby" -- butt up in the air, very cute. She's also mastering the side sit. And when we change her she does baby crunches. Legs up & half sitting up, she is a riot, and verey tricky to chnage lately. Dylan -- well not so much. He's just not that motivated to get moving. I have Early Intervention coming out to eval him to see if he qualifies for EI services. SOme baby PT may be in order for him. But he's my nursing champ --- I get the feeling he's thinking, I'll stay here, you just keep bringing the milk!:rotfl2:

You guys are scaring me. Lucas has never had a blow out. I've never had to change an outfit because he got poop on it. I figure it's coming... the more solids he eats, the more poop he will produce is my thoughts. Anyway- I'm scared! I don't carry a change of clothes with Lucas. I did at first but it seemed like I never used it and would just pull it out, not even worn once, to replace it with the next size. So I stopped doing it.

He's only ever peed through diapers at night. Except for the night he stripped naked... but I'm sure that had the diaper remained on his bum, the poop would have remained in the diaper. He hasn't even peed through since I switched to Overnites.

He's also excellent in restaurants... he loves to look around at the people and "flirt" with whoever will give him attention back. We went to Olive Garden last night and he kept making fart noises :rotfl: Cracker Barrel awhile ago he kept flirting with this elderly couple behind us to where he twisted completely around in his high chair to see them better. He cracks me up.
He's better OUT than he is in the house. I've seriously considered just going to the mall and doing laps with him on the bad days...

You are LUCKY!! We have had our share of blowouts- luckily we are home when the happen. I sometimes venture out without a change of clothes, but rarely.

I hope it stays that way for you!

Hi,

I've been missing for a few days because my LO was in the hospital. We're going to be checked out today and are just waiting for the nurse to come and give us our paperwork.

I figured I could write a quick note while we were waiting. He had a cold and icky nose for a few days. He had trouble breathing on Tuesday night so I took him to the ER. They did a breathing treatment and it didn't seem to help so we were admitted to the PICU. We stayed there yesterday and last night. He's doing much better now, but I will fill in the gaps once we are back home and settled. Looks like I have a lot to catch up on!

Can't believe how chatty I have been today- Allison is watching Playhouse Disney for the first time! I may be starting a bad habit! Ha

Anyways, I am not too sure about weaning as this is my first as well- I have gone with what seems right as well as what the daycare provider seems to think is working.

I had a MAJOR stash of frozen br milk (we have a stand alone freezer). SO until last week, she was getting one bottle of br milk a day and then the nursing at night.

Currently, she gets a 6oz bottle of formula in the am. Then cereal and fruit in mid morning. Yogurt for lunch (sometimes I mix veggies in or fruit) another 4 or so oz of formula before PM nap. 6 oz at 330ish. Dinner at 5pm which is fruit and veggie and whatever we are having depending how soft it is. Then 7oz before bed.

Seems like she eats all day. I exclusively br fed for the first 6 month then she used to get 1 bottle of formula a day. We had a REALLY hard time with getting her to drink formula. I used to have to mix it with the br milk and slowly used less and less until she was drinking all formula. I believe this is done when she switches to cow's milk as well.

Hopefully Lily will like the solids more and more. Have you tried fruits yet or just veggies? how about yogurt? Allison wasn't sure about the yogurt at first and now she can't get enough!!

WOW- I just wrote a novel.... SORRY!

Really? Never, ever? Wow, you must be really lucky or a super duper diaper-er. Probably lucky. Don't worry, I'm sure the next one will make up for it. :lmao: Not that I'm wishing it on you, I'm just sayin', is all........Jeez even when my older son was mostly potty trained I *still* kept a change of clothes in a ziploc in the car. Only ever used a couple of times, but I was prepared!

I like to go out to eat. I'm a big believer in starting them young. I hate going out on vacation & sitting near kids that pretty obviously never go out to eat. The kids are monsters & the parents are fried. No fun at all. But with babies & toddlers I think you need to "set them up to suceed" -- i.e. not do it when their have little chance of success like when they're overtired over hungry or just plain cranky. Just pick your times wisely is all. My older son is a restaraunt pro, even orders for himself. Which is something my 10 year old nephew *still* doesn't do!

We have been slowly implementing solids. Right now she gets baby oatmeal with a couple tbsp of fruit in the morning and then several tablespoons of veggies at night. Next week or so I'm going to start giving more finger type foods. Like steamed/roasted veggies cut up small, maybe cheese, cherrios, things like that. I see these puffs, which I like how they melt away, but I read the ingredients and was surprised there was sugar in the ingredients. It didn't look like a lot though.

Is anybody anti-puffs?
