The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I keep telling her that.... I keep telling her, too, that she'll get a lot better epidural at a hospital that delivers babies on a regular basis than she did on an Army base. They don't do TONS of OB stuff there.

I don't know. I might try to hunt her down sometime in the next few days to talk to her. :)

Sorry, I was playing with HTML codes. And accidentally posted.

I swear there was never anything interesting here.

yellowfish--bummer about the vaccine. You're braver than I am.. I've never even made it to a clinic.

Hasn't it peaked by now?

Well I went to go get my H1N1 shot...opened at 9am. I left my house at 9am and got there at 9:15am and kept on driving. The line had to be at least 300 people long. It came out the door about 50 feet, followed the the road for about 100 feet and then went back toward the building and then BEHIND it.
I'm considering going back now but at this point they are probably already out...

Sooo.... my SIL called Sunday night to tell us she was diagnosed with swine flu and bronchitis. (She is our babysitter 2x a week for me to go to class)

Luckily, she hasn't had him since before we went to Disney, so around October 21st.

I think that falls waaay before she would have been contagious so we're hoping he doesn't get it! eek!

Did you check to see if your OB had opened their shots out to mothers yet?

Just a thought that is where I got mine.

Patsy - I just looked at your FB photos from Disney. What carrier do you have? The side hip one looks neat - perfect for my DH!

Hey everyone. Not much to report. Lily has her first cold. She finally picked up the one I had. She was a bit fussy and sleepy, but not too bad. She was really congested this morning, but it bothered me a lot more than it bothered her.

I'm going to see Wicked on Thursday. DH is all worried cuz the play doesn't start til 8, so I'll be home really late. Poor planning on my part. We got in a big fight cuz he never gets 'me' time anymore. Gag! Neither do I! :p, so I was a good wife and called his bff to set up a play date. :teeth: He got to go hang out for 5 hours on Saturday. Worked out for me cuz Lily was good and I got to play our new video game the whole time. hehehehe

Im so freaking TIRED! Both babies are getting SUPER fast, going in opposite directions, and finding stuff on the floor to eat that I dont even see! have to vacuum 2 or three times a day. :scared1: My poor four year old.. She likes to eat her cereal on the living room floor watching cartoons.. NOT ANYMORE! That stopped when she had a baby coming at her from both directions, and Vinny landed face first in her cereal bowl!:lmao::lmao:It was kinda funny.

On another note.. My friend that is having triplets is in the hospital. She has been for about a month now, and will be until delivery. She will hit 24 weeks on Wed. so that is at least viability... She is hoping to make it at least another month.

Oh geez.. Me again. Its not been the best day for baby news from our friends. we just found out that one of Dhs friends just had their baby. She wasnt due until the end of January. The little guy is only 2 pounds.

*Valerie* I think you are the only one I know of who has had preemies.. I hope you dont mind me asking.. But what was the most helpful things people did for you, or said to you? Or something you wish they had done or said? Its their first baby.. Thanks.. Again, I hope you dont mind me asking.

I'm so sorry for your friends. How far along was she? That is what is the gestational age of the baby at birth? Size is important, but so is gestational age. By my guestimate she was 9-10 weeks early, does that sound right? 2 lbs would be on the small side for a 30 ish weeker. My babies were 3lbs 8 oz at 30w 5d -- so the baby may have been growth restricted in utero, so *might* do better now that s/he is out, maybe. My older DS was a 26 1/2 weeker & was 2 lbs 5 oz at birth & size was one thing he had on his side, as he was a "good" size for a 26 weeker.

If the parents are up for it, I belong to an online preemie parenting support group, it's Yahoo Groups' preemie-list, link here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/preemie-list/

You said it's their first, so there are no older kids to care for while mom & dad "visit" the baby(yeah more like sit at the bedside for as long as they can handle.). Do they have any pets that require care? If so, offering to feed/walk/play with/change litter, etc for any pets may help. Offering to bring over dinner, as they may not want to cook, may help. Offering to do their grocery shopping or other errands may help too. If mom had a c/s she will need folks to drive her to/from the hospital for at least 2 weeks, vag delivery just until she thinks she can handle it.

She should "expect" her baby to be in the NICU until around the original due date. Of course if baby does well they may get sprung early, if there are complications, it could be longer. Just for comparision my babies were born 7/2 due 9/5 -- Katie came home on 8/6 after just 5 weeks -- Dylan did not get sprung til 9/2 (and still has the d@mn apnea monitor....grrr.) DS6 was due 9/19, born on 6/19 -- came home on 9/19 but was rehospitalized due to aspiration pnumonia after less than a week, came home for keeps around 10/2.

Giving constant updates on the baby to concerned & caring friends & family may be too much for them, especially if the baby is having a rough patch. Ideas are to designate 1 person for the parents to update & all others contact that person for the most current info. Or they can set up a phone line (cell phone, outgoing mssg on a home phone mailbox) with the current updates on the baby & friends & family can call there for info. Or the parents can set up a Caring Bridge website to update for F&F to check for info, link here: http://www.caringbridge.org/

If mom was hoping/planning to breastfeed, she may still be able to. She should see if there are LCs that she can work with while the baby is in NICU. She will need to start pumping w/ a hospital grade rental pump ASAP. (I'm *still* pumping for my babies btw, Dylan will sometimes BF, but its not real practical for me w/ 2.)

Nobody will "get" it like moms who have been there, so if no one in her real life has experienced having a preemie, seeking out online resources may be good. She may feel some degree of guilt, as well as grief, that her body failed, or that its all her fault. She may feel cheated out of the normal pregnancy/childbirth & parenting experience. 30 weekers in general do better than 26 or 24 weekers, I'm hoping that she has a boring, uneventful & relatively short NICU stay.

I also hope that the triplet mom you know can stay pg a good long time yet, 24 weekers have no picnic ahead of them. Feel free to share this with your friend & if she'd like to "talk" PM me for my email.

So apparently when Dan got home from school yesterday, my MIL somehow mentioned that she could use a vacation & she wished she was in Florida. To the kid who has been to Disney every year for the past 4 years..... He replied enthusiastically 'that's a great idea Grandma, you can take to me Disney!' Then she backpeddaled, but I've never been there, I don't know about it. 'Oh don't worry Grandma, I can show you. First you take a taxi, then an airplane, then a bus!'

Smart kid I have there. He understands that next year taking the babies may be hard & we'll have more fun taking them when they're 2, but he doesn't like it. If he can convince Grandma to take him, he'd leave us behind like so much old luggage, and in a heartbeat. :lmao:

Fact is, if I could come up with some way to leave the babies for a few days , I'd love to take him on a mom & son trip, maybe for his birthday. Which would be as soon as school ended in mid-June.... but I don't see it. Nobody would step in for me with the babies, maybe if I were hospitalized, but not for a vacation. :sad1:

I just scored appts for H1H1 shots, at a neighboring municipality's shot clinic for tomorrow for both DH & me. We qualify as the twins are only 4 months old, plus DH has asthma.

Thank you so much for the info! I am thinking she was 30 weeks or so. I dont know them very well, but my dh has been friends with them forever. Since he was in JR high.. and he is OLD!:lmao: I dont think anyone else in their family, or circle of friends has had a baby early.. Most of the group just started on the baby wagon.. We were the first. I found out from his sister.. who is the one introduced me to my DH. So i am going to send what you wrote to her, so she can get the info out.. Thanks again!

How funny!:lmao: I love kids!

I totally feel you on the twin thing. Everyone I know is afraid of them. :confused3 I dont get it.. Its not THAT hard. I see all these women that have so much help from their families.. Or grandparents that WANT to take the kids for a weekend, or even just a couple of hours, and I get so jealous. My mom is great at helping out financially if we need it.. Diapers and formula and stuff... But she uses that so she doesnt actually have to spend time with anyone. I cant understand that. I LOVE being with kids. I cant wait to be a grandma and steal all my grandbabies for a few days! Having a houseful of kids is bliss to me.. The noise.. the love! I dont get just wanting to be alone... or in the casino somewhere. :confused3

I am very lucky. Both sets of grandparents would mud wrestle to see who could babysit Natalie for me. In fact my parents will have her for 6 days so we can go to Disney next Friday (:cheer2::banana::woohoo:) Oh my gosh, I can't believe we leave in 10 days. I know that I will miss her like crazy, but I know she will be in great hands. This is actually the first time I will have spent the night away from her.

Well my twins are only 4 1/2 months (2 1/2 months adjusted) and are still hard, not sleeping through the night, not yet holding their own bottles, etc. I'm hoping by the time they are nearly a year old, they will be considerably easier to deal with. But no one can imagine that far ahead.

And my MIL lives with us and does help with the kids. But she's waaay more comfortable w/ my older DS. She won't watch the babies alone. So if I want to go out w/ DH alone I need to get my mom over here too. 2 babies, 1 big kid & it requires 2 able bodied grandmas to watch em. She did watch them alone for 15 minutes so I could run out & vote..... they were both asleep!:rotfl:

My twins are so teasing me on the sleeping through the night thing.. Every once in a while.. they do it. But NOT very often. Mine dont hold bottles either. I dont get what that is about. :confused3 They can crawl.. sit up.. eat food off the floor..:lmao: But not hold a bottle!

I am so worried about mt dh watching all four kids on his own for four days so I can go away with my friends. He has NO fear. He insists he can do it! Uh-huh.. He gets all twitchy if I go to the grocery store without the babies! and I almost always take an older kid with me. They should be walking by then.. i hope. Then they can walk over to him and smack him if they get hungry..

Well, I've already vented about how dh doesn't even want me to go to the grocery store without Katie. And my family has never been any help. They want me to visit, but not leave without the babies! My mother had 4, and sometimes I wonder why. :confused3 She couldn't believe I had Katie "after I finally got the older 2 off my lap." And now that Katie is crawling and pulling up, I keep hearing about how glad I should be that she can do things for herself. I LIKE little babies-no one in my family seems to get that.

I just came home to eat lunch and change Katie and feed her. We are heading to the dr for her 6 month checkup, and to have her ears rechecked. The appt is at 4. I get off at 3:20, but then have to fight school traffice for 15 min to the daycare, then it is another 45 min to the dr office. If I leave early, I get charged at least half a day. So I left at 12, planning to pick up the big kids, eat lunch with them, then go and get Katie and relax at home a little while before heading to the dr. I pick up dd10 (her school is on the same campus at mine) then head 5 miles out to the middle school to get ds12. I pick him up no problems, then head back to the car, which is DEAD! Won't make a sound! It worked fine, then nothing! So I had to call dh to come and get me, and now a wrecker is headed to get my car. I don't even know what the bill will be.:scared1: So I'm about to head to the dr office in dh's truck.

I love hearing your stories! lol

Sorry about your car december!
Looks like I have to go back to full time January 4th. I was hoping for at least one extra month. Oh well.

Emma had her four month well visit today. 16lbs...24 inches...4 shot and 5 free cans of similac later.
