ummm... i didnt even think of using the mesh feeder. It totally would work. I just didnt do it.

and about the solids.. what Dannys mom said. 4-6 months. I still only feed them once a day, just to get them used to it.

So, maybe I'm biased (I am, I realize) but I think the little dribble of formula is super cute.

It does!! That's so cute! He's so handsome Patsy. He's totally gonna be a ladies man one day


So I got Jake to sleep in his crib last night! I couldn't believe he actually stayed in it. He still woke up pretty frequently but I figured there was no difference in him waking up there or waking up with me in bed. (He sleeps in his little baby wedge thing in bed with me most nights.) But last night he woke up for his first feeding at around 1130 and after he ate, burped, and got a clean diaper he still did NOT want to go to sleep. I was so exhausted from the night before I could barely keep my eyes open. So I moved the wedge to the crib and hoped for the best. He fussed for about 10 minutes, not screaming, just fussing. Then it got quiet and I realized he had actually fallen asleep. I was amazed and excited! It worked the same way the rest of the night and I actually had my bed to myself and slept fairly well. I am one happy mama today

I'm hoping and praying for a repeat performance tonight!

Katie is actually playing in her baby bed right now, and giving my arms a break! She has gotten so good at rolling over, and holding herself up on her arms. I can't believe she is that big! She just went from her stomach to her back for the 1st time!

That is super exciting!

..and I know not to give him solids yet, I was teasing myself a little because I know I'd do the same thing Staley did if Lucas started to choke-- freak out!


....I might be a bad mom but after Lucas had 40oz yesterday and was STILL screaming for more (and it was just shy of 8pm) I put rice cereal in his bottle.

Just a little bit... a teaspoon sized amount.
But he drank 4oz. more with that cereal and went to sleep!

He didn't sleep at all yesterday, not a minute, until I put that cereal in his bottle. Then he was out!
It was like heaven on earth at last.


I never realized how frustrating it would be to me that DH is here and unable to help me. I'd rather him be gone!... I'm always so tempted to say "Hey, check his diaper" or something but he can't and it's slightly irritating to me... especially on days where I am positive we are encountering another growth spurt like yesterday.


Goal today is to finish the living room. I would have to post before/after pictures for anyone to truly understand just how amazing it is that I almost have a room done in my house.
It's perfectly acceptable to throw the stuff I'm not entirely sure what to do with back in a nice, plastic tote with a LID, right? I think 30+ boxes and piles of crap coming down to 1 tote is pretty darn good....

Katie is actually playing in her baby bed right now, and giving my arms a break! She has gotten so good at rolling over, and holding herself up on her arms. I can't believe she is that big! She just went from her stomach to her back for the 1st time!

Katie is rolling everywhere this morning, and I searched and found this:

In order for your baby to roll over he needs to have a strong upper body, good control of his head and neck, and be able to coordinate his arm and leg movements well. Most babies learn to roll from front to back first because front to back rolling requires less strength and coordination. Your baby may learn to roll from front to back as early as age 2-3 months. Rolling from back to front is a more difficult milestone and your baby may be 5-6 months before he starts rolling from back to front.

I guess my child is weird! She has been rolling from back to front for weeks now, well before she was 3 mos old. Last night, in the middle of my post, was her 1st time going from front to back. She was playing in her bed, I had put her down on her back, and she immediately rolled to her belly and held her head up. She has always had really good upper body strength-my mother is amazed by it at every visit. I had started typing, and looked at her again, and she was on her back.

Dd9 is freaking out now. She is trying to play with Katie, and she won't stop rolling!

Ds12 did most physical things ahead of the norms, while dd9 was pretty much on track. He was walking at 10ms, while she was at 12 mos. It has been so long, though, that I can't remember what "normal" is. We think she might talk early, too. She loves to carry on converstations. She has been very vocal from the start. I don't remember my other two cooing so much, or as early as she was.

AWWW!! I wouldnt be surprised, with much older siblings like she has, if she does everything early! The twins are both doing things much earlier then Mikalah did.. Mikalah did everything late! She didnt crawl until she 11months old. SHe only crawled for a couple of weeks before she was walking.

I walked at 9months.... but I'm thinking (kinda like you said) that it was because I had my older brother. (He's roughly 2 3/4 years older than I am)


Couple random questions- I've read that you're supposed to let babies "air out" for a few hours each day. How do those with boys do it? Or do you?
So far I've put him on a towel on our hardwood floors (easy clean up if he misses the towel) and sometimes I just bring his tub in and let him chill out in it without water.... but he doesn't particularly enjoy either.
Hoping for ideas to keep diaper rash at bay!~


Also, I meant to ask this Monday but with all the EKG/X-Ray crap I forgot.
Is it normal for a pediatrician to ask you a lot of questions about your "household"?
I've seen both of the NPs at Lucas' last few visits and they never asked, but the Pediatrician did on Monday.
Stuff like who lived in the house with us, did we have running water, electricity, heat, pets (that I understand, allergies and all) what did we do for a living, were we married (I still haven't gotten back in the hang of wearing my rings yet)....

Just curious.


Also, it seems like most of the Big Lots get a lot of the same stuff, so I thought I'd pass this on... we went yesterday and they have Gerber 4 packs of the "first" Vegetables for $1.40
Unusual for Big Lots, but the expiration date is June 2010.

My mom took Alex and I shoping today. The plan was to get Alex some school clothes, mainly jeans. But alas.. None were to be found. At least nothing that fit him him. Then we went to the commissary.. She stocked me up in formula, and baby food. We got in a fight in the middle of the aisle about how much formula. She told Alex to get 4 or five canisters... I told him to get one. So we were arguing, and she was like.. They have to eat!! I know, but DANG! I was feeling really badly about her buying so much! SO I gave in, because she gave me the death look.. and even at 28 years old, I am skeered of my mama!Then Alex got the 5, and she asked how many were left.. two. So she had him get those too. 7 canisters of formula!! I couldnt believe it. I was crying in the middle of the store. Such a dork. Then my mom was all Shut up Megan.

Then we hit baby food, adn it was $.35 a jar... I am so going to take a picture of my baby cupboard... It is so full.

So I was away fromt he babies for like 5 hours today. the longest EVER! I missed them so much. It was so weird to be out with only one of my kiddos.

Katie slept in HER bed from 10:30 pm until 4 am!!!! This is the 1st time she has stayed in it for more than a few minutes at a time. I heard her moving around at 4 (her bed is at the foot of my bed), and brought her to my bed to nurse. We slept until 6, and she was up after that. She is fussy today, so we skipped church. And she is napping in my bed right now, but maybe she'll start sleeping in her bed more now!

Same sort of thing. They are the disposable hospital-blue pads that are water proof one one side & absorbant on the other. The nurses put them under you when you are first post partum & all leaky & bleedy.

I took the extras from my room thinking that they'd make good disposable changing pads for when we were out & about.

Ahhhh.... I didn't have extras in my room, I didn't bleed/leak that much. I don't recall (after being moved to my postpartum room) them changing that pad other than when they changed my sheets.

I'm sure part of that is a c-section, too, right? I bled still but not as much as someone who would have done a natural birth.

I do remember them changing them a lot after my water was broken though.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I rested really well. My parents were in town again and let me sleep in both Saturday and Sunday. It was WONDERFUL!!!!!

Well, I'm home from school today and we are heading to the ped's office in about 45 min. Katie stayed fussy all day yesterday, and wouldn't nurse for more than a min. I had to pump last night to get some relief before bed. She woke up screaming at 3, and screamed until 5. (She never wakes up crying-just moans and pushes me until I wake up enough to nurse her.) She still won't nurse-has nursed maybe 2 min total since 3am (it is 9am here). And she is having some bad bm's and gas.

I called in sick, and loaded all 3 kids in the car so I could take the older kids to school and leave assignments for my classes. As we were turning into the parking lot, ds12 started vomiting. He covered his clothes and the car. I handed him some wipes, and took dd9 and Katie into the school, left my assignments, got dd9 to class, drove home, and started vomiting myself. Then I had to clean the car. So not a fun day!

I got an appt for ds12 and Katie at 10:20. I'm sure it is just a quick bug, but with Katie's age I don't want to take any chances.

Classes started for me today. Tomorrow is my last day of maternity leave. Bittersweet kinda week... summer is officially over... and life continues on.
