Katie really didn't give us a choice

The 1st night home, she cried all night. I was determined to make her sleep in her bed (which is at the foot of our bed-no nursery). It just wasn't happening! Dh is a bigger pushover with her than I am, so the next night he said to put her in the bed with me (she had napped with me that day) and he went to the couch! Now, I can get her to sleep and put her in her bed, and she wakes up in 5 min. In my bed, she naps for hours. Yes, she is rotten!

At least we are sleeping well. She only wakes up once or twice a night to nurse, then goes right back to sleep. I just decided that we are old and she is the last one, so we'll do whatever works!

I don't feel comfortable even laying in our bed with Lucas. It's this super squishy mattress and it's got little mountains of fluff... does that make sense? Lucas can already roll and I can see him rolling into one of those mountains and not being able to roll back out. Maybe I'm paranoid.

The guest bed is much harder and flat.. I've cuddled in there with him, before...

So... I think I got a blessed with easy baby.

He sleeps except for every 3.5-4 hours to eat (through the night, if we put a nightlight and radio in his room)... is that normal? I'm afraid to jinx myself by being proud of him, haha.

He's also already sucking 3oz bottles dry every 3.5-4 hours. Piglet!
I can't believe he's a week old.

Lucky you! At one week, DD was waking me every 3 hours to eat. It stunk, esp. since I was--still am--breastfeeding. Some breastfed babies need to eat every 2 hours, so I could have had it worse. At least I didn't have to fiddle with bottles in the middle of the night; I could just stumble into the room and plop ourselves on the chair. But it would really have been nice if once in a while DH could have lactated for me!

Except for a few nights here and there, DD has slept well in her crib. She would go for longer and longer periods at night, and now at 4 months has to be woken for her last feeding.

I'm afraid to sleep with her in our bed. I'm a sound sleeper, but I move around a lot. Plus our cats are used to sleeping with us, particularly when it's cold (and DD was born in Feb). Two adults and two kitties wouldn't let a baby get much shuteye! I think DD takes after her dad; he needs a lot of sleep and gets it whenever he can.

I see what you mean about the mattress. DS has slept next to me in the morning for a quick nap before I go and get his brother, but I won't keep him in the bed at night. DH is a roller and hitter (lol) so I think he would get tossed around. Our family has had the same basinette for all the babies born for over 50 years (including my sisters and I), so both DSs have slept in it too.

You are lucky about the sleeping. We've been pretty lucky this time around too. DS will sleep for 2-3 hours, nurse, be awake for an hour or so and repeat. He will go down around 11 and get up at 4am then back to sleep until 7 or so. It's working out for me because that's what time I used to get up anyway. Now I just have to shower faster so the crying doesn't wake anyone up!

I cried the first time DS slept in his own room. He was about 4 months old and getting too big for the basinette. I would sit in there and wait for him to fall asleep and then creep back in 2-3 times to make sure he was ok. I still peek in on him. He didn't used to nap in his crib but in my lap instead. I had to nix that fast because I couldn't get anything done all day. So about 6 months old he was finally sleeping 2x in his crib for naps and bedtime. The crying killed me, but I knew he was safe and just tired. And angry that I made him move from my lap to the bed!

I was thinking Lucas would be OK on 3oz. for awhile but I think I'm going to up the next round of bottles to 4oz. already... it seems like he's hungrier more often and even though he seems satisfied with 3oz. if giving him 4oz. will make the feedings less often, I'm all for it. Wonder if it will work?

I'm really glad I didn't buy more than 6 4oz bottles... seems like we'll be out of these things within the month. I never dreamed we'd have too many of the 4oz. liners either, I thought for sure we'd need more.

DS eats about every 3 hours for about 20 minutes each side!
i have no idea where he's putting it all. If I didn't stop him to burp I don't think he would care. He's sleeping in my arms keeping me warm. It's freezing in here! Could be worth a shot with bigger bottles. Is he still doing 3 hours apart?

He was closer to 3.5-4hours before but seems to want closer to 3 hours now... which is why I was thinking about upping it.

I don't know why, but he always wants less during the day. It's a little deceiving. I was keeping track but stopped.. I still keep an eye on the clock when we feed him, but I'm not writing it down or anything like I was before.

I think I might just make 1 4oz bottle up and see how he does on his next feeding. I just know he has sucked the last 4 3oz. bottles DRY and seemed like he could have kept going but also seemed satisfied.

Times like these make me think breastfeeding would be easier.. I feel so crazy trying to figure out how big to make the bottles nad keeping track of ounces and mL's and all that junk~~

Hey all can I join? I have a six month old, so I don't know if I am a new enough mom, but I also have one on the way!

James is still waking up a couple of times during the night, just to eat and then he goes right back to bed. I have tried to reduce the amount he drinks, and so far it has been working. We co sleep with him, so it actually is really convenient to feed him, but I still wouldn't mind not waking up during the night!

We took our babies camping for the first time yesterday!! Only one night, just to see how it would go. My older kids have never been either.. but everyone had a great night. Except mommy and daddy.. it was COLD!! and the ground was HARD!! But fun. The babies loved being outside. Its so good for them. They slept like little rocks..

BUT! Was anyone else totally surprised the first time they went to pee and it took longer than 2 seconds?

I'm almost annoyed anymore with how long it takes to pee... I was so used to being in and out!

Yes, the whole process drove me crazy. I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it too-I appreciate the 'heads-up' so I'm not caught off-guard.

I wonder what else I've forgotten about post-partum stuff...I probably don't want to know.

Haha.. when Lucas wakes me up to eat and I get out of bed and think "Oh I'll just run to the bathroom real quick...."

Real quick my bum! It takes forever now. The first time I peed I told DH I was getting bored and needed him to bring me a book.. jokingly, of course.

That's funny! The 1st pee after the c-section felt like it took forever. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and I finally feel better unless I don't go in time and it hurts so bad.

Are you beginning to feel better? With my first I had a CS after 24 hours of labor so I kinda know what you are going through. I know it won't make a big difference now but this past time I decided to have the CS and it was so much better. I was out shopping and back to my normal activities within a week. I still have some discomfort but it was so much better this time around.

So did any of you manage to read some kind of What to Expect the first year? book--not necessarily that one, but one you would recommend?

I'm absorbing everything I can on kellymom.com trying to think ahead of the actual birth, which I'm rather terrified of...

Welcome! This thread had some dust on it so I thought I'd bring it back up today with the wonderful question about pee...

I didn't read anything. I didn't read any pregnancy books either, though. I've found anything I've wanted on google or whattoexpect.com or through these boards.

....best advice I can offer on the birth is to go in expecting it to not be what you planned at all. Be prepared for anything. If they schedule you for induction, sleep more than a measly two hours the night before (I wasn't nervous or anything but I could NOT sleep so I sat in his nursery and read a book).... just be prepared for the unexpected.

Yeah, the last few days I have been much better physically. I think I really overdid it the first few weeks. Emotionally, I've gotten worse. I think it's because DH went back to work...
I distracted myself with the checkbook yesterday and it worked [no crying spells!] but today I tried laundry and ended up bawling when I came across the shirt DH wore to the hospital that day. I might have to burn the shirt instead of washing it.

Good to hear it's better when the c-section is expected. I intend to ask my OB if that is what would be the case if I got pregnant again.. but I'm getting Mirena at my postpartum checkup so we'll see what happens...

It's not even been an entire week at home without DH and already I'm doubting that I can be a SAHM. I feel like I'm going crazy but hoping that will change when the baby clues go away



...this is random, but when are you supposed to start tummy time? I figured I needed to wait until his umbilical cord fell off but not sure. He's more and more awake these days and I don't know what to do with him.
