The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Patsy, if H1N1 shot comes available for myself and DH we are going to get it. I just feel safer having it. DS has had the mist already.

Your question regarding hair loss...I am thinning out all over but with both pregnancies I really noticed it in my widows peaks in the front.

DS just dropped a metal Thomas the train on my toes...talk about pain! It made me cry. He was so upset he hurt me and I was crying. Accidents happen.

Emma loves to hear herself talk lately, and she is always giggling at DS. This phase is so darn cute.

Patsy, my work isn't forcing us to get h1n1, but they are strongly recommending it. I work in a nursing home...so I'll be getting it there. I probably would get it anyways with CJ, a 2 & 8 year old. I have asthma as well...so I fall into several catagories!

Are you guys getting the H1N1?? I just found out there will be 7 clinics here in the upcoming weeks. I'm eligible for 5 of them... being a "household contact with an infant <6months"... so I'm thinking I should do it. I spend hours a week at the college and then even more at a local elementary school. I just don't know! Ergh. I hate this. I couldn't find a seasonal flu shot but here is the H1N1 ready for me to get!
(and I would also like to make a brief complaint about the fact that everyone in the house has been sleeping soundly but myself. Dang that sweet tea!)

There was a clinic at our health dept. today. I knew I should get the shot, but I was a little skittish about it. (I get vaccines, flu shots, etc...I just don't like them.) I told myself I would drive over there and if there was a long line I would just go back home. So I went over and lo and behold there was NO line. So I got the shot. Leave it to me to find the one deserted H1N1 clinic in the entire US. My kids got their regular FluMist at the pediatricians at the end of October so the health dept. won't give them the H1N1 until the end of Nov. And they are the ones I'm worried about-not me. Oh well, at least one of us has had it now. Maybe the vaccine won't be in such short supply at the end of the month. (fingers crossed)

Our schools just started vaccine clinics this week. According to our department of health website, parents with infants under 6 months won't be offered till early Dec :confused3...it seems like RI is a bit behind!

The schools started clinics earlier this month here. Had they told us they were going to do that in advance, I wouldn't have scheduled the usual flu shots at their ped. I think Oklahoma likes to encourage mass chaos more than other states by offering them to people with certain health conditions, senior citizens, kids ages 6 mos.-18 years, AND parents with babies under 6 mos. old all at once. I would rather my kids have had it than me, but I managed to mess that up for them until the end of the month. :guilty: The least I could do for my littlest one is make sure I stay healthy.

If any of you lived remotely close to me, I thought about getting on here and telling you how empty this place was. But they are doing a much better advertised clinic tomorrow and I'll bet there will be lines and craziness. It sounds like RI is doing just one priority group at a time which may help with crowd control.

I just am so darn worried. DH delivers med supplies to homes and sees sickly people. I just want both of us vaccinated asap for the kids.

I was so pissed off at my DB & SIL. They decided to bring an uninvited child to DD's baptism party. I found out after the fact that the childs sister is in the hospital with H1N1. Needless to say I am ultimately pissed off at him and told my DM he better not come near me anytime soon or else. I cant believe knowing the sister was in the hospital he didnt think to stay away from my house. He potentially exposed my kids, my grandson, and all of my neices and newphewswho were there. :headache: People are just idiots!!

Does anyone else cringe when someone approachs their child at the store to admire them?? Dont people realize now is not the time to be touching and oggling babies?? I sure wouldnt.

I've been using my winter cover on the car seat already just for this reason. I know it doesn't really "stop" the germs but it does seem to keep the lookiloo's away.

I try to keep the canopy over her all the time.

I am looking forward to her going to the Dr. in two weeks for her routine exam to see her growth. But at the same time I hate bringing her into the office at all right now. I am most likely going to stay in the car with her till the office calls me on my cell and says the room is ready. They mentioned this was an option.

There was a funny snapshot (I think from the Walmart website) of a lady that had a little sign hanging from a linky that said "Do not touch the baby". It was great. People always want to touch the baby's hands or face. If someone approaches them to say hi I usually keep the cart moving so they have less chance to.

Ann - how sucky of that to happen. I totally understand. We went to a birthday party a few weeks ago and DHs friends entire family was there. His brother has 5 kids and we're sitting down to eat and they sit next to us at a tiny table. DH gave me the "get me out of here" eyes when the brother said their little one had the H1N1 not too long ago, but they were pretty sure no one else in their family had it now. For real? Stay home!

Our LO has 2 teeth now. It's so weird how he got his teeth right around the same time as my other DS. Did anyone else have kids that did this too?

That's similar to what I'm doing. My carseat needed a replacement sun cover, but all that fits it really well is either a winter cover or the one with the bug screen. Since temps are mild here, I'm using the bug screen. It has cut back a lot on looking and there is zero touching with it, which I like very much. I know it isn't 100% safe either, but it makes me feel a little better when we are out in public.

I have to pull out DS's baby book. I was wondering when DD will start.

Alexis had a very slight cold at the beginning of the week. DH was all in favor of taking her to the Dr. but I was NOT given all the scarier things in the waiting room right now. He called their office. They agreed with me. Her fever was gone by Wed. and I haven't had to suction her little nose in more than 24 hours. Thank goodness that's all that it was and I'm very glad I didn't expose her to something worse.

I totally know what you mean. The first time I EVER got a flu-shot was when I was pregnant for Lucas. Couldn't find one this year. :headache:
I'm still torn on the H1N1.

Our clinics were set up like this:
The first 2 were only for the local elementary students that missed getting the vaccine at their school.
The one tomorrow is for:
• Pregnant Women
• Children 6 months to 18 years of age
• Health Care Workers
• Household contacts of infants under 6 months old

and then the next three are all of the above &
• 25 through 64 of age with underlying health conditions

I realize I should go tomorrow but I can't make up my mind. I might wait... they are doing on Wednesday at the City Park which is only 3 blocks from my house and it starts at 2pm. I would think it would be less crowded than the one tomorrow at the health department. :confused3
You guys are getting the ramblings that are happening in my head right now! Sorry.

I got the flu while pregnant with my second child, and again the following year when their dad was deployed. That's what it took for me to get regular flu shots (though I can't find a regular one this year either). As far as the clinics go, you should probably try tomorrow and see how bad it is knowing that you have the city park on Wed. as a back up plan. I agree with you about the crowds being easier on a weekday afternoon. I think the reason that I lucked out today was because it was a weekday and the hours were 8 a.m.-Noon. I walked in just after 10 a.m. and saw three other people aside from the employees. I'm betting the Saturday clinic will be crazy.

I think I'll go Wednesday.... maybe. I don't know?!

Sorta a random question buuuut on feeding... those of you that have done this before.

I assume bottles are phased out a bit, right?? When solids are started?? Right now Lucas gets about 32 oz. a day and we go through a tub from Sams every week, give or take a bit. Do they get to the point that bottles are infrequent before a year? I know the tub says "up to 12months" and that ultimately it depends on the pediatrician's advice.. but just curious. I figure he'll shift to more baby food than formula?

I don't know about bottles, but you sound like me about getting the shot. I woke up the slightest bit sore this morning, but felt better after a shower. And so far, those are my only side effects. And I am slightly relieved that at least one of us is protected. I just wish it was the kids instead of me. Sigh.

Go on Wednesday and see what the line is like. That's what I did yesterday and I really would have left had there been a crazy crowd because they make me nervous. And yet I still love WDW, go figure? :)

And I would think that solids would mean fewer bottles, because eventually there was a decrease in nursing once the babies figured out that the food took the place of it.

Patsy, my SIL has a 14 month old at home and I know she was feeding her a BF/bottle just at nap time and bedtime at 10 months and was trying to ween her down to just at bedtime until she was a year old and able to get cows milk. She gave the baby juice and water at other times from a sippy cup. (Is that what you were asking?)

Alex hasn't been sleeping well at night...I've been getting two stretches of 4 hours each, compared to his normal 6 hours and then 4 hours. I'm not sure if it's the time change catching up with him or if he's not feeling well. (I got a sore throat on Monday...so hopefully he's not getting that now.) Plus his ear looks red...

He also goes for his 2 month shots on Tuesday. The doctor mentioned to NOT give him Tylenol beforehand but everyone is telling me to do it. I think I'll bring it along and give it to him right after the appointment. Also my SIL mentioned infant Motrin and that the two can be used together (Tylenol every 4, Motrin every 6). Anyone have any exprience with this? I'm petrified that he's going to be hurting after his shots.

My ped says not to use Motrin on babies until they are 6 mos. old. I'm sure she has told me why after taking all 5 kids to her over the years, but I can't remember the reason right now. She reminded me of it when Alexis was born because she knows I prefer it for the kids as it seems to work better on their fevers than Tylenol. But I do always wait until they hit that 6 month mark because I trust her.

My ped. told me NOT to give Motrin until after 6 mos, but told me to give the Tylenol before the shots, and after. Tylenol is supposed to be ok from the beginning.

I don't remember how the feeding works Patsy! I just know Katie isn't really interested in food when I'm around. She does eat it at daycare though, and hasn't been finishing her bottles.

I'm afraid I'm in for a major breakdown. Tomorrow is dd9's 10th birthday! I guess she is dd10 now:goodvibes. We are in a new school, and she loves her new friends. She picked 5 to send invitations to for her party today, and told me she just wanted them over instead of a big family party. She really wanted a slumber party, but I'm not up for that. Only one emailed back (put my email and phone number on the invite, and asked them to please let me know if they could come or not). This mother is going through a messy divorce, and said she could only come if the mother could stay too! She doesn't want her kids out of her sight. OK, they are 10, but I told her that was fine. I actually went to school with the mother, so she has known me her whole life. The other girls kept telling dd10 they would be here. I don't know any of them or their parents. The party was supposed to start 9 min ago, and no one has shown up!:guilty:

She did ask me to call my sil this morning and see if her cousins could come. They are supposed to be here in 50 min, so maybe she will have someone to play with.:sad1:

My babies eat twice a day, but are still taking just as much formula as they were before. From what I remember... It was once we started more table food that they slowed down on the formula. The babies arent really taking much table food yet. I seem to remember that my older kiddos were down to just a little formula on their first birthday. I might have even started milk a couple of weeks before they turned one... Just to get them acclimated.

AWWWW!! BOO! That is my biggest fear with having b-day parties for my kiddos. Poor thing. I hope SOMEONE shows up.
