The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I've got the opposite problem, Natalie loves to sleep on her belly, not her back. Once she can roll her life will be so much better. :goodvibes

Have a great weekend everyone!:thumbsup2

Ds12 was the same way-freaked me out with all the warnings about belly sleeping!

I am so glad it is Friday! I had to work the football game last night. Well, I switched to work it. We have to work one a year, and the other games are on Friday nights. Dh is helping out with our old school's team for one last year, so will be on the sidelines there every Fri night for the rest of the season (he is gone now). So this Thu night game was the only one he could help with the kids on. He brought them to the game, but was in charge while I worked the gate. I didn't get in until too late, then had all the normal chores to do, and then work today. I'm just exhausted!

Hi everyone! Dh had his first full week of school and I haven't had time to check in.

Lily has had her days/nights right for 3 days now. Hopefully it'll stay this way. I'm so glad it's the weekend!

For tummy time, I've been putting Lily on my chest. She lifts her neck crazy well and can hold her neck steady a long time. She will fall asleep on my chest that way no matter how fussy she is.

She has her one month check up on Tuesday and I see my OB/GYN on Monday...fun start to the week. I can't believe I'm almost have way through my maternity leave. I don't want to go back!

Sarah, I think it was you who I talked wrestling with at one time?

I'm really concerned right now. I've been in the back with the baby, and I just walked into the living room to check on the kids. I found dd9 crying hysterically, and ds12 trying to console her. Why was she crying? Because Jeff Hardy just lost his cage match, and "lost his career and his title!" :rotfl: She is absolutely devastated! When I laughed at her, she pointed out my weird Goldberg obsession from a few years back. I think she needs major therapy!:rotfl2:

I appreciate the advice, and the opportunity to vent.

He woke me up this morning, crawled back into bed with me, told me he loved us and that he'd go to anger management counseling or therapy or whatever. No one that prescribes, no one that will force him to go to "the dark places" but I figure this is a step in the right direction. :)

I don't know how effective they'll be with the PTSD issues but if they can help him understand and recognize when he starts to get angry I figure that is a plus.

Now I've just got to find someone. :) :) :)

I also just switched us from CBR to CSR.
I think he'll be happier at CSR, they have a gym. He enjoys working out a lot... I figure that is something small I can do to make his trip more enjoyable.

Okay, I'm super late coming into this and I had a whole thing planned out of what I was going to say to try and help you out but I got interrupted and couldn't post it :headache: Buuuuuut, then I saw this and it made me very happy. Obviously, this hasn't been resolved yet but I am so glad that Tom is taking a step in the right direction. Obviously he loves you and Lucas very much and that is making him realize he needs some help.

I hope everything works out for him (and you) and please keep me updated whether here or on FB. I'm always here for ya

And I think you'll like CSR! I've never actually stayed there but when I did the college program in '05 I went there a few times cause I had a friend who worked there and it seemed really nice :thumbsup2

Thanks again everybody. It feels good to be able to vent about things... that sorta stuff eventually eats away at you. :guilty:

Lucas has control of his head... but he still HATES tummy time. He'll tolerate it for about 2 minutes and that is it. December, thanks for that... I'm not going to worry about it anymore. It seems crazy to force him to do something he hates.

I don't give Lucas tummy time on my chest because he dislikes that, too. But it's really only been the last few weeks that I've been able to do it... he was so long that the few times I tried it after the c-section, he kicked me down there and :scared1:... we didn't repeat it until I was healed. Then like a week after I healed up I got my gallbladder out and again, couldn't hold him on my chest. So he hangs out with me in the recliner, resting on my legs. :goodvibes

Last night we had our first encounter with that bulb syringe. Boy, I think that is the only thing he hates more than tummy time. He stopped, stared at us and then SCREAMED... delayed reaction!
It does seem to have helped but he HATED that thing!!

I'm so glad Lily got her days and nights figured out. I hope she stays that way!
How is Jake doing, Veronica?

I have to go see District 9 for one of my classes ... I was so hoping to avoid that movie!.... so I'm hoping my mom wants a Lucas at some point this weekend so DH can go with me. :goodvibes

He's doing okay but not much better. He still wakes up every couple hours but sometimes if I just let him fuss for a bit he settles back down. It's easier on me now though cause he's been sleeping in his crib. He's starting to really get used to it...mostly cause I haven't given him a choice :rotfl: I'm trying to start a routine of giving him a bath every night around 8 and then using bedtime lotion to massage him and that makes him pretty sleepy. Two nights in a row he slept for four hours straight after bathtime :thumbsup2 Hopefully we can continue with that!

Jake isn't too fond of tummy time on a blanket but he loves to sleep on his tummy on my chest or on the chest of anyone who will hold him. And he's VERY strong. He holds his head up on his own for extended periods and he can push off of my chest with his arms really well. His legs are strong too which is really annoying when I'm trying to change his diaper :lmao: But he stands up on my lap for moments at a time. He'll be rolling over before I know it I'm sure

ETA: Let me know how District 9 is...I thought it looked kinda cool :teeth:

What is District 9?

Patsy, I reread my post this morning about dd9 needing therapy. It was a joke, but in light of your situation, it was in bad taste and I feel bad about it now! I'm sorry!

Katie slept most of the night in her bed the night before she got the ear infection. I haven't even tried since then! I know I'm terrible, but I like having her in bed with me!

I have to do a cultural immersion for my graduate class I'm taking. We could do another ethnic group, religion, age group, etc. I've decided to do mine on Catholics, since I've become more interested in the religion after some discussions on the dis. Catholics are rare here, except for the Hispanic population. I'm going to services at the Catholic church here at least 3 Sundays in the next 6 wks (my deciding factor in doing this and not the black community-the Catholic church meets at 9, so I'm hoping I can still go to church with my family at 11). I'm going to meet with the priest and interview some people there. I'm also going to call the only childhood friend I had that grew up Catholic. She and I used to be close, and she came to my shower, but we don't see each other much anymore. I'd also like to discuss it with some of my dis buddies.

So, are any of you Catholic, grew up Catholic, or have other Catholic ties, and wouldn't mind me asking you some generic questions, let me know!

Thanks!

What is District 9?

It's a new movie that came out recently about aliens living on our planet but they are confined to a certain area by humans called "district 9"

I don't practice anymore but I was raised Catholic. Ask away :)

Thank you! I just submitted my proposal a minute ago, and it has to be approved before I go to the next step. I'll pm you in the next few days!

I grew up Catholic too. I'm now non-practicing, but am willing to answer questions if you want. :)

Thank you!

How are you this weekend? I know you were beyond stressed the other day. I can't even imagine!

I delivered in a Catholic hospital while Jesus (on the wall right between my legs) watched while I tried to push.
Unfortunately I doubt that will help you much!!

I wasn't offended by the joke at all, please don't worry about it!
I'm not ashamed about our situation, or lightly offended by jokes about therapy. A PTSD joke would be a different story... but I knew this was a possibility when I married a Marine and I wouldn't make it through the day with my sanity if every little thing like that was offensive to me!!

I think it's odd that I'm required to see it for "Race Relation Minority Groups" :confused3 :rotfl:

Hope you ladies have a great weekend!!

When I read the description, I thought about the Japanese being put into camps in Hawaii during WWII. Maybe the movie parallels that, but with Aliens?:confused3:rotfl:

Hi girls! I just wanted to check in really quick to let you all know I am back. It was a good trip back to DM but nice to be home now. I haven't had time to read all the posts since I have been gone but I have read a few and I wanted to give  to both Patsy and December. I truly hope things get better for the both of you.

Patsy-I'm glad your DH agreed to get help. Hopefully whoever he sees, he will connect with and feel comfortable talking to with the hopes that they can really help him.

December-Wow! I totally agree about not letting him drive the kids around for a while. I know the economy is tough, especially on men since they look at themselves as the providers for us, and a lot of people feel trapped because of how bad it is and one is lucky to even have a job, but its hard to use that as an excuse to drink so much around your kids. Hopefully he will recognize this and stop the excessive drinking.

Sarah-how are you feeling lately? Thats good that Lily is doing better about her sleep patterns. I am sure that is helping you emotionally! :)

DH, DD and I are about to go crazy not having a Disney trip planned. It wouldn't surprise me if I posted soon that we have decided to go! :rotfl:

I dont check in enough to get the full stories and updates...but I generally just check the last page...

To those of you who need hugs.. :grouphug:

Kids or not, life is stressful!! Its amazing how sometimes, that little bundle we hold helps keeps us sane, or makes us want to do right :goodvibes

Hope everyone is doing well today!!

Mendy! Come the last week of October! :rotfl:
Stacy and I will both be there!!!

december, I'm sorry. I definitely know what it is like to feel a bit helpless, especially with DH issues. Very hard place to be in.
I can't imagine the stress he is under and it's got to be hard on him. Especially having a new baby... I'm sure that escalates his stress. I'm guessing he feels a bit 'trapped' in his job and that is NEVER a good feeling.. it's sorta how I feel right now. I'm not sure anything I can say will really offer any help.. so here I am just rambling again. :confused3
I hope you are able to help him see that alcohol around his kids could hold the potential to make things even worse, not better... and that alcohol is never the right answer!!!!!

Okay, DH's family surely doesn't help matters.

His grandfather just called (it went to voicemail) and so we check the message and he goes "Just calling to see how everyone is doing on the 1 year anniversary of your father's demise."

WHY?!
So, of course, DH is now agitated.

I'd actually forgotten... I knew it was coming up but I'd forgotten that today was the 30th.

His family irritates me. They do crud like that all the time!

Thanks!

I was raised catholic but stopped going in college. I have been trying to get back into it since I was pregnant since we did have allison baptised.

Ask away!

Lucas HATES being on his belly. It's starting to frustrate me a little. Everyone says he NEEDS belly time, but I guess I fail to see why... especially if he is so miserable.
Any thoughts?

I don't want to force you to do anything you dont want to do- but I will just give you my thoughts on it. I am a physical therapist- so just take that into account (hehehe).
Tummy time is important because we now put our babies to bed on their backs. Years ago it was the tummy. Anyways, with all the info about SIDS parents are sometimes scared to put their babies on their tummies at all. This in turn causes under developed neck exensor muscles and can cause a delay in milestones. It sounds like Lucas is doing fine in terms of his development, but I would keep trying. I used to make allison stay on her tummy even with her crying (am I am mean mom or what?) for about 5 minutes. I would try to distract her with a toy or singing... see got to the point where she didn't mind it and now I lay her down on the floor to play on her back and she is on her tummy in 2 seconds.
Sorry for the long drawn out answer and remember- just take or leave my advice.:)

When I read the description, I thought about the Japanese being put into camps in Hawaii during WWII. Maybe the movie parallels that, but with Aliens?:confused3:rotfl:

Actually you're pretty spot on. There are also parallels to District Six in Capetown, South Africa during Apartheid. And the government refugee camp they move the aliens to in the movie is located in Johannesburg, South Africa. So I guess the film makers were trying to make a statement about minorities and race relations which is probably why you have to watch it for that class of yours Patsy :)

december, so sorry to hear about the trouble with your DH. I'm glad it's not completely out of hand but I hope that you can talk with him and get him to realize that A.) alcohol never solves anything and B.) he especially shouldn't be behaving that way in front of your kids.

We're always here if you need to vent though and I hope everything works out for ya'll

Patsy, I can't believe your husbands GF left that message! I'd be ticked off too, especially since the way he worded it comes off a little...insensitive. What a tough day for your DH though, I hope he is okay.

hotveggy, that's the same thing Jake's pedi told me about tummy time so I try to make him do it a few minutes a day even though he doesn't like it. I figure he'll get used to it eventually ;)
