Going by your description, Room # and room view, your room was located on the South side of the main building, your balcony should have had the railings and not the solid domer style that the rooms on the 6th floor South Wings have.

I didn't post the information on the refurbishment to make anyone worry about not receiving their room request on their upcoming trips. So please just be patient, by June you may be assigned a room that has already been completed or they will give you another room just as nice as the original room you stayed in.

I would suggest you keep your request as 5th or 6h floor Inner Courtyard, if you enjoyed staying of the South side of the Lodge add that too, all the rooms in your requested area will not be out of service while you are there.

Beckie

Thanks Beckie. We are not WL vets, but we enjoyed our stay and our location last year. We are celebrating DS HS graduation and he really wanted the same view (which I realize is never guaranteed). I would be really terrific if we ended up in a newly refurbished room, that's for sure. Our balcony was not solid, had rails, maybe not considered the wings, not sure. We liked it anyway, quite convenient, that's for sure.

In 2006 Disney did have a substantial increase at all their Resorts so next year rack rates shouldn't change much.
BUT YA NEVER KNOW

Thanks Beckie,

I suppose that would be really nice to find out, bo huge increase. I recall that when we were kids and stayed at the Poly, we knew it was expensive--$185 /night when I was about 12, but we had no idea what a big deal it was. We just remember how terrific it was to stay onsite. Now I realize what I will pay isn't bad compared to then when only the MK existed and the hotels were booked ahead by 2 years to get a room.

Thanks again for the great answer. It'll be interesting to see...

Just discovered this thread.. wow.
We are a family of five and would love to think about WL :)

Reid,
When I was planning our May trip to WL it started out as do we go back to CBR or do we try another moderate resort like POFQ. I printed out each booking to compare prices. Just for a laugh I did WL because I would love to stay in a deluxe again. While I can't remember the exact price....it didn't take my breath away, it was a do-able amount. You may want to look into it. Also, since booking my trip I am a dry sponge to learn about the WL. The best bit I've learned is at any time the lodge guests are 90% returnees. For me that speaks volumes. I also want to meet Ranger Stan, lol. Good Luck.

Have a magical day,
Anna

Just stayed at WL, for the 3rd time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the theming there. Tried a new drink, Sand in your Pants, at the poolside bar while waiting for DME to get me. Definitely had some kinks in the stay this time though. That room refurb is apparently REALLY needed in some areas.

Let me start at the beginning...had a couple of BIG issues. We arrived after 11pm, I had booked a courtyard view room. The front desk CM said "uh-oh" when she pulled up our ressie. Told us we had to wait a while because our room was not ready yet. After a little while, told me we could get into a Standard View room for the night and switch in the morning. I asked about the downgrade refund. She got help, he offered $20 back because "You already had a great rate." Ummm,NO...I explained that up until my upgrading 2 weeks ago, we had a great rate at standard view, too. I told him I expected the price difference between categories credited to my card. He did so. The excuse was that the resort was completely booked, and there were many late check outs with only one mousekeeper to clean the rooms. I didn't care WHAT the excuse was, just wanted to get started on SLEEPING!

So, in the morning, we had to wait to leave our room till bell services could come get our bags and hold them for us. Then, we had no luggage all day...(Our trip was only 3 full days). When we got back to the resort in the evening, we had to wait in the checkin line again to get our new room and room keys, and we had to call to get our bags back. Nobody would answer the phone, it would go to a message, then bounce to front desk or whatever. Over and over the front desk cm would transfer us, and over and over it would go back to another cm at the front desk. I finally asked for a manager to call me, and explained the trouble. Got our bags about 1 1/2 hours after first calling for them.

The manager called, I explained the story. She was very kind, and understanding. I think she was named Mary, she was sweet. She did put a small credit on our account, as apology for the room not being ready for us. As I had told her, we paid for 20 hours in a hotel room...and after arriving at 11 pm and not getting into a room till midnight, we only got 11 hours in it. Not reasonable, for ANY reason, for a room NOT to be ready for a pre-booked guest at 11pm.

Our room, by the way, the bathroom door knob was hanging on the inside -- you couldn't use the doorknob to pull the door shut...and the drapes on our poolview room (bright light right across the courtyard shone in) would not close all the way, the rod they were on was bent downward in the middle. We only had a 3 day vacation, so had to just deal with it or have to go through that WHOLE moving process again the next day.

On our last full day, we had booked an early morning tour at MK. My mom's legs had unfortunately not held out well on the trip, and our room was not close to any transportation really. SO I called downstairs to ask if the boats to MK were running yet, or should we go to the bus stop instead. They put me on hold, and came back saying the boats were running to mk already, every 20 minutes. So to the dock we went. After about 20 minutes, we hadn't even seen an MK boat from afar! So we used the dock phone to call agian, once again they returned and told us it was a little behind coming back, to hang in there. Soon, people started lining up behind us. While in line, after another 20 minutes, I called on my cell to guest services. They looked into it, told me they were calling transportation to see what the holdup was, and to call our tour and see if we could get into a later one. About 10 minutes later, I gave up. Our tour was starting at 8:30, it was now 8:20. I ran to the front desk, mom followed slowly behind. I waited in line, and told the cm what was going on. She ran into the back office, and came back with another woman who told us to come with her. She put us into a WL van, and drove us to the MK. Got there at 8:32. The tour was just starting.

I was so bummed, it was our last day, and I booked the early tour because I wanted to get that time sitting quietly in the not yet opened park, get a picture from the train station of main street not yet crowded, and get the pix of the statues with us in the pictures but no crowds.

The Wilderness Lodge really let me down this time around. Even the turn down service that I called for, for 3 nights, only happened ONCE! I should have just asked mousekeeping for some of the little cards they leave, those are the best part of turndown! We had similar situation last trip, too. We had requested turndown for 4 nights (we had 2 rooms)...both rooms got it 2 nights.

Our last morning, everything went like clockwork. Checked our bags, got our boarding passes, etc. Went on our way for the morning...then came back 2 hours before our DME pickup. I lounged at the pool bar, then on the beach, got some pictures (turned out beautiful) of the lodge and waterfall. That was the ONLY day that went well at the lodge, and it restored my faith, I am only very sad that I had to leave as soon as things started going well!

To the man in the DIS shirt at the boatdock on friday (st pattys day) getting onto the CR boat with his family early in the morning, sorry I didn't get to say HI...I saw you but didn't register the DIS shirt till you were boarding. I was in the MK line. So HELLO a little late!

Hmmmm, well that's not good. I'm sorry about your stay. I wonder if I should be concerned about our first WL stay next month.

Have a magical day,
Anna

I would not be concerned, just be well informed. And if you are on a schedule, do NOT use the MK boat. Learned that the hard way, lol. Should have gone to the buses instead. Also, if you are arriving late, definitely try to call the hotel directly (not CRO) and maybe that will get your room ready. The correct type of room, hehe.

The few hours when I was waiting for DME to come, just relaxing and absorbing ambience and sunshine, really reminded me of all the things I LOVE about WL. And really, I am a particularly unlucky person in hotels and restaurants -- the bug is always in MY food, I am the one given a room key to an already occupied room, etc. (Those were NOT at WDW!) I am always in the non-smoking (due to asthma) room that has been smoked in, with the connecting door to a room with up-late unruly children who jump on beds at all hours. That is just me. This past trip was the third time I stayed at WL, and it was the ONLY time I have had any problems at all -- they just all ended up on the same exact vacation, unfortunately.

Go, have a wonderful time. Have a quiet cup of coffee on your balcony for me!

I'm so sorry you had these problems on your trip. While I'm sure most of the trouble came with you checking-in so late, and the Lodge apparently not having enough staff on duty, it's not acceptable.

Sounds like you handled the problems head-on with the management. Just wished you didn't need to ask for any discounts. I feel they should have comped you the first night.

About the boat transportation you know it seems like none of the resorts ever have any information about what/when/where when it comes to transportation. They give the front desk people the general information and they answer with what is written down on their information sheets.

Sounds like your visit to the Magic Kingdom was before the park opened so in fact the Green Flag Boats hadn't started nor were they scheduled to start running until around 8:20am from Wilderness Lodge. Guest Service should know this.

Once again sorry for your less than Magical Start of your vacation.

It sounds like if it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all :lmao: Thanks for making me feel better. I had heard such good things about WL. What bothered me most was that you showed up at 11PM and there wasn't a room waiting for you. Also that you had to wait to get the other room. They screwed up they should treat you accordingly. Maybe my expectations are too high. I would not want to have to change rooms, even for one night. IMHO you should have received an upgrade or better compensation. ....... (okay, in through the nose out through the mouth) I guess my way of thinking is, my next stay at WDW has already cost me $5,000 (food not included) For that kind of money, I'm looking to be treated like a queen lol. I'll have that coffee you ya'

Have a magical day,
Anna

Sorry to hear about your experience. It really does suck to have those things distract you from your vacation time. We deal with that stuff from day to day. It would be nice to have everything be perfect when on vacation but alas, even the magic of Disney isn't all that powerfull.

I am confused though about your turndown requests....it is my full understanding that these requests are typicaly for club level/suites/honeymooners and are not usually given to anyone else. That's the policy that I am aware of. If you got even one night of turndown, I'd consider that a perk and a mousekeeper that just wanted to make you happy.

Did you check with the manager about this? I'm pretty sure I am correct.

I'm sure you will have better luck next time. WL is and always will be my favorite even though I've had my share of issues in the past as well.

Fred

P.S. For those of you that are concerned about the negative reports...don't be. You should always keep those thoughts in the back of your mind because things can and will happen but remember that more than 80% of the people that go have a wonderfull time and may never experience any large problems. Life has a way of doing that. :)

Fred,

We stayed at WL last June in a Woodsview room and we called and asked about Turndown and they said it is available to anyone in the hotel, to just call and request it. On the two nights I requested it was there for us both nights, AWESOME. I plan on requesting it again this summer and hope it is honored. I do leave a tip every evening for this though.

Turndown service is automatic for concierge guests, but is also available to anyone staying at a deluxe resort, you call housekeeping from your room, and request it. I found out AFTER my first WL stay. For the record, we called for it during our AKL stay too, and only got it 1 out of the 4 nights then, too. I am suspicious that they are short-staffed on the mousekeepers in the evenings...a mousekeeper brought our fridge when we called for one too. BTW, only one out of 5 WL rooms that I have had (if you count that we had 2 rooms sometimes) had a fridge. I have always had to call and have one brought up. Just an FYI.

I LOVE the Lodge! I really do. I was just so in need of a couple of relaxing days, and we ended up not getting to relax for real until the day we were leaving. But then, I power-relaxed. On the beach. With a drink in hand.

Ok, forgive my ignorance, but what is Turndown service? This will be our first stay in a Deluxe.

Turndown service is when they come in and have your bedspread and sheets pulled down part way for you to just climb in. I believe they also leave a chocolate on your pillow.

I totally agree with this. While I keep in mind negative reports, I don't let that change my mind on at least trying something. Someone elses opinion may be different than mind, or they may have just encountered a bad day of service. I loved the WL the night we stayed there and can't wait to return this Nov. :thumbsup2

Doesn't really matter. It's not that big of a deal (to me) really. Just pulling your blanket and sheets down on a corner.

Up until sometime last year I believe, you had to pay $10 per day to have a fridge unless you were on the 7th floor. That has since changed and yes, not all rooms have one but not everyone needs one. Why buy a new fridge for every room when not everyone needs it? Just cost control really. Besides, what's a quick phone call to ask for one?

I'm not trying to be difficult. My family does not sweat the little things when on vacation. If you do you end up hating everything and expecting even more. We just let it ride and find ourselves more relaxed overall. We also don't plan to the minute for this very reason....that way we really enjoy the walk to the boat dock and get to take in the shade on the path to it. It helps you notice the little things that make WL what it is. Then you get to enjoy the boat ride because you're not on a tight schedule so it's really a nice ride not just boat transportation. :)

Of course, that's just us. The way "we" have done it and the way "we" will continue to do it. Like Ferris Bueller said, "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop once in a while to look around, you might miss it."

Again, I'm not picking on you just replying to the thread. :)

Fred

 My understanding is that many of the moderates received fridges in each of the rooms during the time they were remodeled. Perhaps we will see this same thing happen at WL while they remodel this summer. :goodvibes

We are going with another family in Nov. If we make separate ressies, can we request adjoining rooms, somehow linking the two ressies together? Or could we just do it at check-in. The reason for separate ressies is because they want to book with package (dining) now, but I only want to book room only in case a discount comes out for room only. It is my understanding that if I book a package, it would have to be a package deal to come out to use it (am I understanding that right)? TIA
