Just wanted to say to all of the newbie to the thread that the WL is wonderful and I'm sure you will love your stay. It is such a pleasant and relaxing place to stay. Have fun.

I'm posting here since you guys seem so knowledgeable and helpful!! This is an amazing thread. We are traveling to the World in Jan 2007. We are:

me (39)
DH (39)
DS (7)
DS (5)
DD (3)

DGrandma (63)
DPop (63)

DAunt (58)

I have only made 2 trips to WDW (one as a child and one as an adult about 11 years ago) and my husband has never been. My parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniv at WDW years ago and stayed at GF.

We think we'll love WL. I've done lots of lurking and research. I think our family unit of 5 will need a Deluxe room since we are 5 and since we would really like the extra room once the kids go to sleep (although I can't imagine we'll be staying up much later). My Aunt wants her own standard room as do my parents.

Question: should we be considering the Villas? How far away is this building from the main Lodge? Are there any downsides to staying in the Villas? What are the advantages?

Thank you so much for your help!!

Hi! I'm thinking about WL for our first Girls Only visit next Dec for MVMCP.

My DD will be 8 then and wants to get to MK quickly!

How long is the boat ride if you take the one that goes directly there?

Where does it drop you off?

Is it exposed to the weather? Or is it covered or enclosed in case its cold or rainy that day?

If you take the bus directly to MK, how long does that take?

Thanks!

@Mermaid02 - the bunk beds have twin mattress.

@antsss - the Villas are beautiful, however, depending on your room location you may have a pretty far walk to Roaring Forks (which is the WL counter service restaurant) and from the boat dock. This wouldn't be much of an issue if you plan on eating breakfast in your room since you do have a kitchen and being that the bus stop is also close to the Villas.

@liveforthemagic - I would say "door to door" the boat to MK averages between 15 and 25 minutes. Most of the boat is covered, but it does have some outside seating in the front and rear. The boat drops you off directly in front of the main entrance to MK. The bus is fast than the boat. When I was there this past Nov. we never waited more than 5 minutes for the bus and the ride is direct and takes no more than 5 minutes.

Hi! Another newbie here. We(DH, DD3, DD1, and myself) are going to WDW in early may and I have booked our room at WL after much debate been it and CR. We finally chose WL because of the awesome themeing that everyone has told us about. However I just realized that I may have overlooked one important issue and was hoping for some help from some of you experts. My DD3 and my DH both have allergies, and I am now thinking that all of these pine trees, etc. may not be a good thing. Does anyone have any experience in knowing if ones allergies are any worse at WL compared to other resorts? They are both on medication that we will obviously be bringing with us, but I know from experience that it isn't always enough to fight off an attack! Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Danielle

I am so excited. I've wanted to stay at the WL for years and I just upgraded to it.

Feb 18-25 with a Courtyard View. Anybody recommend a certain Courtyard view? I have 2 daughters (7 and 3).

Matt

The best Courtyard View in my opinion are located off the Lobby on the 4th floor. You will have a beautiful view of Bay Lake, the pool and the ELP from your balcony, also a beautiful view of the Lobby.

Between a Deluxe Jr-Suite and a One/Two-Bedroom at the Villas there just isn't any comparison no downsides at all check out my post on page 1 about the Villas. (with children the washer/dryer make staying there worth it.)

If you go with the Two-Bedroom it will accommodate everyone in your group. If the others still would like a room at the Lodge they would be only a few minutes away, the Villas are right next to the Lodge.

First WELCOME to the DIS and WL Thread.

The Wilderness Lodge and the CR are next to each other and the pine trees are everywhere here in Florida so there isn't any worse at either resort. Hope you have a MAGICAL TRIP whichever resort you choose.

okay, i know this is a WL lodge thread so the majority is going 2 choose WL, but i was wondering if anyone has been to both and list the pros and cons of each...i love WL a lot....we have been 2 WL probaly about 5 times, but that was at least 5 years ago....now we have a chance to go back, but my family thinks that we should try something new.... i know its not all up 2 me and i should compromise, but im afraid im going 2 be really dissapointed with akl...also is the bus factor at AKL a pain? i would appreciate any opinoins.

Sorry noone answered you sooner, I have stayed at both resorts and love them both but, Wilderness Lodge has my heart. I think that if your family wants to try something new GO FOR IT. As you can see from my signature I still keep trying other resorts.

The only draw back to AKL is it's location, but the location is necessary for the animals which more then make up for a few extra minutes on a bus each day.

Thanks for the info. When I talked to DH about it he said that he would just suffer in order to stay at WL. He is very excited about staying there(me too!)! It's good to know that DD wont be worse off there(though her allergies are not as bad as DH-she has more environmental than seasonal/tree). Thanks again!

GREAT  You will love the Lodge. If you have any more questions just post them here...I made reservations yesterday for June at the Wilderness Lodge

Danielle,
My DH has allergies and asthma and had absolutely no problems with WL, other than he did not want to leave to go home. :earsboy:

I showed my daughter the virtual tour of WL and she shrieked "BUNK BEDS!" HAHA what is it with kids and bunk beds?

I guess I'll request them. What are the chances of us getting them? We have 2 small girls.

You have a great chance of getting them, the earlier you check-in the better. But I'm not sure how many (if any) of the Courtyard/Lobby rooms have the Bunk Beds.

Another WL question. How big are the refridgerators? Will I be able to fit 4 half gallon cartons of milk, plus a few bottles of water? My 2 DD(ages 3 & 1) both drink milk more than anything else and I know that it is usually way expensive in resteraunts. Since they are on organic milk it usually only comes in the carton size instead of the gallon jug, and they would definetly drink at least 4 during our week. I really would hate to have to do grocery shopping more than once during our stay as it is supposed to be vacation and I dont even like to go to the grocery store while I'm home. Sorry for the rambling! Thanks in advance!

Hmm...4 half gallons might be a challenge. The refridgerators are the small square 'dorm room' size. You might be able to fit 3 and still have room to put some bottles (liter size) of water.

I'm with you on the not wanting to grocery shop- ever!

A thought just occured to me that you might be able to get 4 half gallons in the fridge if you switch containers on the 4th half gallon- maybe by putting it in 4 smaller water bottles- they might fit in the door while the three cartons get stacked in the main compartment. Just a thought.

Happy planning!

A while back I heard the rooms were going to be renovated this year. Does anyone know if they will be updating the rooms?

Campinggal,
Thanks for the quick response! That's a great idea for the 4th carton, I can put most of it into sippy cups which I'll have with us anyhow, and that gets those out of the way. Now our only problem will be keeping the little one out of the fridge once she figures out her milk is right at her level - I swear that she would live on milk alone and never eat if we let her! :drinking:

Thanks again!
