Kimmar,

Thanks, good to know, here's hoping!!!

As for room 5032, it is THE BEST. We had it our first year at the lodge, that is why I booked Woodsview last year as well. GREAT ROOM!!!!

GatorEye how were the crowds? What days were you there, trying to decide when to go next year to avoid crowds. We were at WL 11/24-12/2 and parks were crowded our first couple of days there. Weather was great but a 2 hour wait for space mountain the saturday after thanksgiving was a little to much for husband to take. Trying to decide whether to go back to our mid-October visits. On the flip side I saw many LGMH while there, but I don't know the back story to them, only read on the dis that people would wear them on backpacks and put in window of hotel rooms.

The crowds were fine. We never waited more than 20 minutes for anything. Now realize I was there with a 3 year old and 8 month old so we never went anywhere near Space Mountain, Big Thunder, or Splash Mountain, but I NEVER saw a sign anywhere in the park that said more than a 30 minute wait. If you know how to work the Fastpasses you'll be in even better shape. We never waited more than 2 minutes on anything we had a Fastpass for.

I think the week we go (Sunday Dec.3 - Sat. Dec. 9) is great because it is 2 weekends after Thanksgiving so hardly anyone is going to travel that week and it is after they film the Christmas parade. Of course it's also our anniversary so it works out well for us. :teeth:

I tried to post a link (which it doesn't seem to let me) to a site that has a Disney Crowd Calendar. It lists which park they recommend for each day of the year based on historical trends and what is happening at the park (special events, extra magic hours). I disagree with them on their advice to AVOID a park that has extra magic hours. I think during a slow time you should GO to a park that has extra magic hours because it thins the crowd out even more. I've found this to be the case on our previous visits. They may have a big research team to verify their claim, but my theory works for me.

The parks were fine during the week, but the worst crowd by far was at Downtown Disney on Saturday (and the cashiers said that on Friday night it was literally so crowded in the stores that you couldn't move). We were going to go earlier in the week, but ended up stopped there on our way driving out of town. It was a zoo. The only comparable crowd was Roaring Forks on the Saturday morning I needed to cash in all my unused meals from the dining plan.

Here are my personal tips and how we ended up doing things. I had a rough schedule for the entire week with the times for all the parades, fireworks, and shows we wanted to see, along with all of our dinner reservations. Of course the baby changed a lot of it but it still worked out good for us.

Sunday - got in at 12:30. Room wasn't ready so we hung out in the lobby and around the hotel until 3:00. Dumped our stuff in the room and took the sleigh ride at 5:30 (highly recommended - we even saw some deer). Took the boat to Ft. Wilderness and did the campfire with Chip N' Dale. Came back and got rested to roll on Monday.

Monday - MGM. There seems to be a running theory that people who come in on the weekends start their first day of the visit at MK. We did MK last year on Monday and it did seem a little more crowded than I was expecting. We decided to do MGM (which had late extra magic hours and afforded more time to enjoy the Osborne family lights) and it didn't seem crowded at all.

Tues - Wed: MK. Slow, slow, and slow. One of those mornings (I can't remember which, we were literally the only ones on the bus from WL to MK, if that tells you anything.

Thur: MK. Early opening extra magic hours. Get there at 8 and it was dead. Stay on rides or hop off and climb back on with no wait until 10am.

Fri: Epcot. We only went to the Coral Reef restaurant and the seas. But again from the looks of it, it didn't seem bad at all.

I think we hit the days better this time and got more done in the early morning than last year when it seemed more crowded.

Sooo..my sugestion is to go at least one week after Thanksgiving and one week before Christmas and you'll be fine. Also, be at the parks before they open. You'll enjoy more in the first two hours of the park opening than 5 hours of midday. Also, if you are going to be there long enough, spend one day just seeing all the shows and parades. Then go back the next day and hit the major rides during the shows and parades when the rides will be slow.

Why people actually go during Christmas week and New Year's is beyond me. I worked in monorails 20 years ago and I worked at the Epcot station on New Year's Eve and it was one of the most miserable experiences of my life.

I know planning takes some of the fun out of things, but if you don't like standing in line and waiting, all the books and things people say are true in that a little planning can make a big difference in how long you wait for things and how much enjoyment you can have. I used to think that until I saw much enjoyable it is for us when we can enjoy what we like without waiting.

With a little planning and change of dates your husband could probably easily hit Space Mountain 4 or 5 times in 2 hours.

I can't believe I didn't see ONE LGMH!

We were also there 12/2-12/9. I agree that the worst crowds were at Downtown Disney. The parks were pretty quiet all around. 20 min or less wait is about right, and we hardly had to fastpass. Actually the worst line I saw was for the Nemo Musical public soft openings (we got in at the AP preview).
The hardest thing was getting ADRs (even though the restaurants never seemed crowded when we got there). Maybe they have lower staffing this time of year? We tried to change around some of our ADRs while we were there, which was impossible, and we had to get a new one at the last minute because the Luau was canceled. I also heard from the GF folk that the hotels were at 98% capacity. Again, I never felt like it was that crowded at the hotels even.
We had our LGMH! We did meet one other woman from MI with one. And I saw a bunch of Mousefest folks around from those "other" websites, etc. ;)
I'd go back again this week, or maybe next week. I just know now to make sure to plan early.

I made our ADR's this summer so I didn't have any trouble getting them. The concierge was able to move a few around the week we were there, but I think it's kind of hit or miss. For example I ended up cancelling 2 character dining meals (a 5:10 at Crystal Palace) and 2 other dinners at WC so I'm sure someone was happy to get them.

That's what I said in my earlier post about planning. I planned what days we were going to go to each park and all of our meals 6 months in advance. I double booked a lot of things in case it rained and washed out one of our days or something happened that we need to move things around. If you are only there for 3 or 4 days you probably aren't afforded that luxury.

My wife thought I was nuts trying to plan so far in advance but liked that we didn't have to wait in long lines or scrounge for food because we couldn't get in to any of the restaurants. Last year it was frustrating that we could never eat at WC because they were always booked. We probably could have stood around and waited, but when you are hungry, you don't feel like waiting. I wasn't going to do that this year so I made ADR's way in advance and then tweaked them while we were there.

I asked the Concierge about the hotel status on the Friday we were there. She said earier in the week there may have been 1 or 2 empty rooms, but other than that they were at 100% capacity for the entire hotel.

It still baffles me - the hotels are 100% jammed during that time, but the parks are dead. Do people go and just sit in their rooms or what? They weren't in the pools. Maybe they all just flood Downtown Disney. Next year we'll hit that on Sunday or Monday and get it out of the way early.

We will be there too! December 20-28th! :Pinkbounc

Fortunately, we had most of our ADRs and tours/events, etc. all set up, so we were able to do everything we wanted in 7 nights (except the Luau because it was canceled for the cold weather). We had a few reservations we wanted to switch around (tweak) while we were there, which always proved to be difficult. What I did find was that we were much more successful if we went to the front desk or guest relations rather than calling on the phone. They had more access to the system I guess (and were able to force a 4top to be sat with 2 people). If you went down with nothing planned, you would have been in big trouble!

I don't get it either-- I guess the conference attendees and pop warner folks just don't get to the parks? And supposedly the off-site hotels are dead dead dead.

Sadly, Downtown Disney was almost just as busy on the weekday morning (I think we went on Wed or Thursday) as it was on Saturday afternoon.

Good Morning WL lovers!!!! I just returned from my 12/8-12/13 trip to the WL. It was BEAUTIFUL, and the service was excellent. We had room # 6025, and I was VERY happy with it. It was on the 6th floor, non-smoking, king bed, and was handicapped accessible. I actually liked the handicapped accessible bathroom as it was larger than the regular room!
We had wonderful service from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out, and we also got a lot of pixie dust! I am going to start my full trip report today and will add pictures soon.
Crowds were very manageable, if not dead, and the wait times were not ridiculous. I found the transportation to be decent, but not great. I am not one to complain, as it was still MUCH better than driving or any moderate I’ve stayed at. Getting to Epcot seemed to take the longest, while the MK bus was VERY efficient. The boat to the Contemporary and FW was a very nice addition and helped us out a lot! I would definitely not hesitate to stay at WL, or go during early December, again. It was beautiful resort and really emitted the holiday spirit. Please let me know if you have any questions…I will be more than happy to get into specifics!

We just found out the pool will be closed 1/29/07 to 3/2/07. Anyone else planning a trip at these times. We will be there 2/7/07 to 2/14/07 and paid extra for a pool view. Now what to do ???? Wonder if Disney compensates or if you can use other hotel pools? What are others doing? Very upset about this unexpected change. Thanks for ideas.

WHAT!!!! That is horrible news. We are sooo looking forward to being by the pool. We are going Feb. 3-10th and the pool is a huge part of the decision to stay at the WL. I'm calling Disney tonight to see what I can find out.

Sorry about the pool being closed. There is the pool at the Villas that can be used. Definitely not as nice as the WL pool, no slide etc. But right close by, just around the corner from the main pool.

Pixie Dust to you. :wizard:

Hi everyone..just wanted to add a quick hello and wish everyone on this wonderful thread Happy Holidays. I've been MIA for a while..I had an arm injury that only about 2 weeks ago recovered and lately my brother, who has cancer has been doing very poorly. We are just praying he makes it through until Christmas. Anyway..just wanted to check in. We are thinking about an extended weekend at the WL over Christmas next year..as this Christmas has been far from joyful and I think we will need to get away next year. Though we weren't planning on it cuz I will be in school. Hope to be back on more often..soon.

I found out that they will have buses out front to transport guests to CR or Poly.

I'm not sure if the waterfall will be down as well, but unless you were planning to spend a lot of time using the pool, part of the nice view is the stream and waterfall. We always left our slider open at night so we could hear the waterfall. It was very relaxing. Last year when we were there, the stream/waterfall weren't working.

You'll also still have a view of the lake and the water parade.

If none of that sounds appealing, you could switch to a view of the Villas pool or switch to a view of the MK and enjoy the fireworks. :)

I wonder what all the ducks are going to do for a month? :teeth:

We just got back last night. We were at WL from Dec 8-16. We had an inner courtyard facing room, and it was fantastic! Watching the electric water show, hearing the waterfall and the geyser, enjoying our balcony...woo hoo! The Lodge is the most pleasurable hotel we've ever stayed at. DW and I agreed that just staying there for a few days without going to the parks would be enough to justify the price.

We got towel animals Dec 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. Our mousekeeper was Livis on all of those days (as well as check-out day, the 16th), and she was fanstatic and great fun to talk to when we happened to see her in the hall. All the rest of the staff was great as well, including the waitress at WC who took great care of us our first evening there, when we had been up since 1 AM. No antics beyond the basics (straws and napkins tossed on the table), and quickly got us our food and got us out of there so we could sleep. :thumbsup2

I'll post a full trip report later, but I wanted to let everyone know that we had a fantastic time at the lodge. DW, who had been skeptical of the whole trip, now can't wait to go back! Even after touring other deluxe resorts, she wants very much to stay at WL next time. :woohoo:

Thank you for all the help, WL FAQ threaders! Your advice made our stay even better!

We thought the same exact thing. We were there between Nov.27th and Dec. 5th. We had meals at the CR, Poly and GF and none even came close to the WL. I had already booked POFQ before we went for next Oct. and quickly contacted my TA to change it to the WL when we returned home.

Just thought I'd do a quick post about our stay at WL CL from 12/7-12/16. I think Gatoreye and I had just about the same trip!

We had room 7043, which was the very last inner courtyard view CL room going down the north wing. We LOVED this room! Like GatorEye we liked to leave our sliding door open at night to hear the waterfall, and since this room didn't have anyone to the east side of us, and we were separated from the balconies of the rooms on the west side of us, we could feel pretty secure doing that (if someone had wanted to get in our open doorway they would have had to be a pretty good cat burgler :teeth: ). We also enjoyed the convenience of being near the elevators that go down by Roaring Forks and the pool area.

For us the Club Level was definitely worth it...we liked being able to get up away from the crowds and the convenience of breakfast and snacks just made our trip more relaxed. We liked ending an evening by sitting at one of the lounge tables looking out over the lobby having milk and cookies :goodvibes

Parks weren't very crowded for the most part, although we definitely noticed an uptick on Thursday and Friday (the 15th and 16th) when xmas crowds started coming in. Nothing that affected our park visits really since by that time we had really done most of the rides we wanted and spent most of those 2 days shopping and taking in a couple rounds of miniture golf (the Winter/Summerland golf course is really cute, especially for the xmas season!).

That said, both my husband and I agreed that the parks were more crowded than our last visit which was Jan/Feb of 2005. That trip we never had to even think about using Fastpasses, on this trip we used them quite often. We were also a little surprised that while there were quite a few xmas decorations, it wasn't really "over the top" done up like we experienced when we did a xmas trip to Disneyland in 2002 (I feel bad even complaining about this one, but it was our observation). Overall, we think our next trip will be back in the Jan/Feb timeframe. Coming at xmas time was fun, but lower crowds seem more worth it for us.

We ate breakfast at WC one morning and had an excellent time. Our last trip we ate dinner there and we found we much prefer their breakfast skillet to their dinner one. I should mention that our breakfast was not an ADR that I had scheduled ahead of time....while there my DH decided he'd like to try their breakfast and I was able to get an ADR for 9:10am the very next morning (Sunday, Dec. 10th).

We also went to Hoop Dee Doo for our first time, and I would say that was our favorite meal of the entire trip! Good food and a fun show :)

Let's see if I can wrap this up with just a few more observations: Pool was nice and warm, my DS swam just about everyday and sometimes twice a day. Scaffolding was just around the corner from our room when we arrived, it moved down a bit further (outside the Yosemite Suite) by the time we left. Nothing that bothered our stay at all. Bus and boat service to the MK was decent. We rented a car this trip for the first time and drove to all the other parks besides MK...that will definitely be the mode from now on, can't beat having your own car for transportation, especially with a AAA parking pass. I would have to agree that RF has very limited food options, and we felt that the old standbys (cheeseburgers and fries) weren't as good as they used to be. All CMs we met were friendly and helpful, and we received towel animals 4 times throughout our stay.

Goodness, that was longer than I meant to be...hope you all don't mind. We truly enjoyed our trip and this time learned how to relax and not burn ourselves out like last time! :rotfl:

We were neighbors! We were in 7045 - the room right next door to you from 12/3-12/9. I guess I should have put a LGMH on the door!

We really thought that room was in a great area too!

Ok, just back from the WL. I am now officially hooked and would like to be part of your club..... :teeth:

I cannot wait to get back although it will be 11 months. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously though all of you!
