Whew!! Just got back...TONIGHT. 10 days and our first stay at the lodge. We were the flag family, got a wonderful upgrade and I'll give details in my upcoming trip report. For those who can't wait, we were upgraded from standard room and view to inner courtyard with bunk beds!! Our trip was filled with dreams:cloud9: . We're all very sleepy but feel free to ask any questions.

Stepdisney, it's great to hear that you had a wonderful trip since you were so unsure about your hotel!

Being Flag Family was one of the highlights of our trip in '05. I never posted pictures before so I thought I would give it a try. It was very sunny that morning and we could see for miles.

Hi everyone,
I have enjoyed reading through all of the posts and seeing the pictures of the WL! I will be going to the WL December 16-21 2007. This will be our 3rd trip to DW,having stayed at the Contemporary and The Carribean Beach Club.

I have read so many varying opinions on where the "best" room is, so I have no idea what to aim for! We will be getting a courtyard view, but that is all we have figured out so far! I guess we better book soon huh!?

We are hoping that the week we are there will be a little quieter than the following week of Christmas.

I have so many questions I don't know where to start! let's start with the bathroom! I tend to judge a great room by its bathroom! Something I really dislike about hotel bathrooms, is having the sinks out in the open, with the toilet and shower being being closed doors. I liked the bathroom in the Contemporary because the sink area had a door, and the toilet had a separate door as well. I just really dont like seeing bathroom sinks from the bedroom. What is it like at the WL ? I have seen the pictures, but I cant tell if the sink area has a door or not. I would love to have a decent tub, but I think those are just in the deluxe(is that the same as concerge?) level. Any info or pics would be appreciated! Thanks!

Great pics, thanks for posting

Oops! I also forgot to ask about the room discounts. Someone mentioned a teacher discount. What is that exactly? I am a teacher in Canada. I am just trying to find any kind of discount I can get!

First the "guess we'd better book soon" has me concerned.....:scared1: Have you booked your room yet?????? The WL is very busy during that time of year and can be difficult to book at even at rack rate. We are staying the week before you and have not been able to get 1 day of our stay at any rate:headache: So if you haven't booked call now!!!!!

The "teacher" rate is over at the Swan/Dolphin in the Epcot area. The rates for teachers can be very good. I don't know if teachers outside the U.S. are elligible but you can contact them. The contact info is normally at the top of the main resort discussion board area.

The timing should definitely be better than the week after Xmas as that time is extremely busy. However, towards the end of your stay expect the crowds to go up :rolleyes1

The rooms in the WL are unfortunately similar to what you describe regarding the bathroom area. However, unlike the values or mods you don't see this from the bedroom area only when you walk in as there is a wall separating the two areas. I don't know what you mean about the "nice tub". The jetted tubs are only in the DVC 1-2 bedrooms or suites that I know of. Otherwise they are the regular tubs.

Hope that helps.... :)

Thanks Flossbolna. We did visit AKL and I experienced a little resort envy but I had my DH with me and he got a chance to see why I was pushing for that resort. I did enjoy WL, don't get me wrong. I just get weak in the knees when I visit AKL. We checked out several resorts this time so we'll have fun choosing a resort for our next trip.

I knew you would love it! I can't wait to hear about your trip. We leave on Tuesday.

nonsmom thanks for the water tip. I left an entire case at the lodge because it didn't arrive until tuesday because of the labor day holiday but the first case came very much in handy because it was so very hot. :thumbsup2

Congrats on your magical trip!! How did you get the upgrade? Would love any tips you might have.

I didn't do anything to get the upgrade. The nice lady at the front desk didn't even tell us we had an upgrade. We did switch room from 2017 (inner courtyard) to 5117 (even better inner court yard). The room on the second floor had a slight problem and after we returned from DTD, there was a message on the phone telling us to pack up our things (we hadn't actually unpacked yet) and they moved us to 5117.....5th floor inner courtyard . I promise to post pictures (I took a gazillion!!)

Oooooooooh what an awesome upgrade    I am thrilled for you :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Our first year we paid for a woods view and received an inner courtyard view (bear faced room) 5th floor..... it was a dream come true and we fell in love with the WL :goodvibes We will back (paying for a courtyard view this time - AP rate) in only 3 months :cloud9:

Step D - anytime. I'm glad it helped. How were the crowds when you were there? I'm hoping that it is slower this week.

A few questions,
1. Does the store in WL sell autograph books and postcards that say WL?
2. We will be arriving on a Sunday, will the times guide I pick up at check-in be for the entire week?

1) Yes they sell postcards and Autograph books in the store. At least they did last time I was there.

2) More than likely, yes. Check with the concierge in the lobby to be sure or just ask the staff while you are checking in. :)

tardin1964 those are some AWSOME pictures!! It's certainly an honor to be able to do. I'm hoping to get to do it again this coming trip in December. We made an awsome plaque for Ranger Stan thanking him for all he has done. I'll try to dig it up and send it on over for all to see. I gave it to him a few years ago. Ranger Stan IS Wilderness Lodge. He loves that place. :)

There are pics from my flag family in my photo database. Check out the link in my signature.

Just got back from my first magical trip and I am in LOVE with the Wilderness Lodge! I'll be posting a trip report soon but in the meantime, I just wanted to thank everyone one this thread for the advice and suggestions. Even though I was a newbie, I really felt ahead of the game and I think I made the most of our trip!

Now we have to start planning our second trip! :)

Well, Ive done it! The trip to WL for December is booked. We had no problems with booking our Courtyard View...cant wait.

Majestic...thanks for the kind words.

Being Flag Family was definitely an honor. And as I posted before, when we checked in the CM said Flag Family was booked for our entire stay, but she asked if we wanted to be put on the waiting list. I didn't even know there was a waiting list, but of course I said ok. I couldn't believe it when we got back from the park one afternoon and we had a message on our phone saying they had a cancellation and if we wanted to be FF come to the front desk. I don't think my wife ever saw me move so fast:lmao:

Ranger Stan was great. He was still moving slow due to problems with his knee??? I think. He made us feel so welcome and you could tell he enjoyed talking with new people.

And I remember Fred when you did that plaque for Stan. That was a really great thing to do. I would love to see a pic again if you can dig one up.

My wife chronicled our whole FF experience by using those multiple picture frames. It's hanging directly over our computer so I get to look at them everyday :)

Carol, maybe we will be neighbors! We've got a courtyard view booked December 16-22!

How often is a person upgraded to the CL? That is some awesome pixie dust. Has it ever happened to anyone here?
