None of the Lobby rooms have ever been Smoking Optional Rooms. The only rooms that were smoking optional rooms were located in the far North Wing these rooms also have the inclosed dormer balconies. If you look at the map of the room assignments:Wilderness Lodge Room #'s and Locations

The rooms that were the old smoking optional rooms are room # 6000-6034. The other wing South room # 6130-6165 have the inclosed balconies.

Thanks for this info! I have been concerned about this as well since Ds has bad allergies that could be triggered by residual smoke odor.
Is this too much info to be put into a request???

North Wing Inner Courtyard
NOT 6th floor.

I have never had the need to take a taxi to DTD if you allow a little extra time the bus will get you there. The reason the DTD buses take longer is the location of DTD, with off site traffic and distance it just takes longer. I would make a guess and say the taxi would be around $15.00 but that is just a guess.

Yes ::yes:: I leave an extra tip for the turndown service, but only if I am in the room between the time the room is cleaned and late afternoon when the Mousekeepers return to do the turn down.

Thanks for the reply! :goodvibes About how much is good to leave for turndown? $2? It is DS and I. Also, do I need to request this each day, or just once at the start of our trip?

Haven't visited this thread in a long time. . .

I usually tip $2 for DH and me. After we check-in and get into the room, I call housekeeping and request turn down service for the duration of our stay. It worked great both time we stayed at WL.

Have a great trip!

When did you pay for turndown service? Did you just leave $ and a not on the bed? I'm new to this turndown request thing. I'm used to hotels just doing it or not and never saw the benefit until WDW:love:

sorry I know this has been discussed but I cant remember how far back. Does turndown cost extra and what is included? We are going next week!!!

I think they start at 7am. Check the 1st page of the thread. There's a bunch of transportation info in the 2nd or 3rd post. I remember riding the monorail really early one year when DD woke up early when we were staying at the Poly, so you'll be fine for that leg.

Thank you!

We left 2 envelopes with the tip in them on a pillow on the bed in the morning. One said "Thank You: Housekeeping" and the other, "Thank You: Turn Down Service."

We returned one afternoon, and housekeeping apparently visited; the envelope for Turn Down was still on the bed, and the one for Housekeeping was taken.

No, it does not cost extra. We tip as a nice gesture; it is not mandatory.

It varied both times we stayed at WL. In Feb. 2005, the bed sheets were folded back nicely, pillows were arranged, chocolate and a special note card were left on the pillow, the drapes were drawn, and the lights were dimmed. I believe that the radio might have been on some easy listening station.

In Dec. 2006, we had only the first 3 done.

I hope this helps!

The question is......are these flood lights gone and is the courtyard/pool area as awesome as I remember it being waaaay waaaay back??

Please say yes!

CuteAsMinnie
I remember those large flood lights next to the bridge.

Yes ::yes:: they were temporary and were removed ages ago when the work was completed.

Hi there,

We just decided to book our next trip for January 2009 at Wilderness Lodge. We have never stayed there (only stayed at the mods). Now obviously, I have Disney-OCD, since I am planning this far in advance, but oh well :rotfl:

Anyway, my question is, is a Woods View better or a Courtyard view? And what is the difference?

TIA for all the info :goodvibes

It depends on what is important to you. The woods view rooms typically have a view of the pond (north side) or other woods on the north or south side of the lodge. It is possible they have a view of the MK fireworks through breaks in the trees on the north side. The courtyard view is preferred by many since it has a view of either the waterfall and pool area (inner courtyard) or the Villas pool on the south side of the south wing.

If you want a chance to see the MK fireworks from your balcony but otherwise have a quiet retreat, a Woods view north wing upper floor is your
pick. If you prefer seeing the stream, rocks, waterfall, pool, geyser, and part of the electric water parade, then inner courtyard is for you.

See this link for which rooms have which views. http://users.hartwick.edu/heydukr/wlrooms.htm

Nothing wrong with that! We're gonna skip '08 since we've gone so much this year and return in Jan/Feb '09. After that, I plan on returning annually this same time each year.

Thank you for the info! :goodvibes I can't wait to be there!!:dance3:

After much flip flopping about what we are doing for a honeymoon. We finally made up our minds. 7 Nights Woods View, King Bed Requested
Fiance didn't want to the Courtyard View because of the chance of hearing kids being loud in the pool (he hated how loud being in front of the pool was at the pop) which is fine for me.

I;m sure this thread has been "turn down service" to death but since I've never used the service and I've been reading the recent posts I'm starting to consider it. Would this be a good option for us since we have three children (two of who are very small) who are often asleep when we get back to the room? What other advantages?

TIA!:goodvibes

It is really just that housekeeping comes in, turns down the top blanket and sheet in a nice sort V shape (lpicture pulled down to climb into bed). They arrange the pillows nicely and leave a little card with a quute and a small chocolate.

At GF it cin;udes freshing up the towels, but not sure if that is the same at WL. I'm sure those who have stayed at WL will know :)

I would not say there is any advantage to it, other than it looking pretty when you return to the room in the evening :):flower3:
