For the rooms where wifi isn't available - are there ethernet cords in the rooms for use, or should we plan on bringing our own?

there were retractable ethernet cords on the desk in the room
BTW here is picture of the coffee maker in the room:

Just got off the phone with the s/d and they did say that all the rooms have wi-fi (wireless) and ethernet. I also called last week and got the same answer, but the person I talked to didn't sound like she really knew. So I am going to assume that all (or at least most) of the rooms have wi-fi.

Now if you are able to connect with ethernet cable, that still may be a better option, because it could be a faster connection. In the past I have found wi-fi speeds to greatly very from a nice speed to a speeds where personally delivering an email would be faster. :rotfl2:

I just got back from a six-night stay at the Swan, and in addition to the ethernet cable, there is indeed wi-fi in the room. (I would assume all rooms have it, since we didn't have a suite or extra fancy room or anything like that.)

If you don't think the speed you are getting is fast enough, they do offer in the room purchasing a faster connection.

Sorry jnfr2424, didn't write my previous post well. I wasn't commenting on the speeds of the wi-fi at the s/d, my first visit there will be in June. Just commenting on wi-fi locations I have run across in general.

As long as I can do a little surfing, checking the weather email and send off a few photos to family I will be more than happy. Anything better than that I would consider a bonus.

Someone mentioned that they saw the MK fireworks from the Swan...are there any rooms from the Dolphin that face MK?

I dont think so-The dolphin/swan are next to Epcot World Showcase and REALLY far from MK;)

My room faced away from Epcot-11th floor looking out at the entrance-but I caught a glimpse of the firework show-i'm sure the rooms facing see it all?

No microwaves in any rooms, suites.

As for fireworks, if facing in the direction of the MK and if high enough, maybe 5th floor and higher, you could see the MK fireworks off in the distance. Not necessarily a good show that far away, but you can see some of the high bursts. Same for Epcot's Illuminations, though that is closer.

Microwaves in some of the larger (Presidential) suites.

Yes, you can see the MK fireworks from rooms facing that direction.

We are staying in an alcove suite at the Swan this weekend for 3 nights. Are we going to have a nice view? We have never been to the Swan. Is there only one building? Do all of the alcove rooms face the same way?

And, I think I read that we can walk to Epcot. Is there a boat we can take somewhere too? My youngest would like that!

So excited. 3 more nights at home....then, WE'RE OFF TO WDW!!

3 nights at the Swan (alcove suite)
7 nights at the Contemporary (14th floor, MKV, 1 BR suite)

Not sure about the alcove suite, but I'm sure others can answer your question.

From what I've heard/read you can walk to the international gateway at Epcot in about 15 minutes. The boats also stop at the s/d and go to Epcot and Hollywood Studios all day long.

Enjoy your trip and let us know how you liked the suite! :thumbsup2

Yes! You can walk to Epcot AND DHS :) As for busses, although we've never stayed at the Swan & Dolphin, we stayed at the Boardwalk, and would get off at the Swan stop and walk over because the Swan was always the first stop for busses coming from the MK and AK (and we're impatient ;))

There is a boat dock to Epcot and DHS right in between the Swan & Dolphin. It's very convenient, but often slower than walking if you have willing and able walkers in your group :)

Hope this Bing link works right.

The alcove suites are located at the end of the two fingers sticking out from the Swan, just below the shells on the roof. There are two suites at the end of each floor. Those would have a balcony. Additionally, there would be similar suites at the ends of the main building also, no balconies. All of the suites are located where the edge of the building stick out by one window.

If the map works right, you can zoom in and out, drag the view as well as rotate the image with the arrows surrounding the circle in the middle, to help you see what the various views are, which are many and varied.

Love those Bing maps, Dan!

Here are some views from our deluxe alcove room last September, Room 592. I think it was in the East wing, but don't quote me on that, LOL.

We loved it! I'm sure you will, too. Have a great time!

Thank you so much for the pictures LexiC123! I would love that same view!! I can't remember if he reserved a room with or without a balcony. I wasn't in charge of that reservation. :)
