My Josh just turned 8, so I'm not to that pre-teen stuff . . . . yet!! It's not that far off though. Mine has heard JOSH U A !!! MORE than once!!! It's usual followed by WHY DID YOU . . . .

ohanafamily
I'm not into flaming people, that's why I like it here. We can discuss our opinions and not get fried!!! Just TRY to give your opinion elsewhere and it's like you're living on the Equator at High Noon!!!! OUCH!!!!!!! Oh, and I LOVE the stuff about the DVC. Even though my mom has told me NOT to invest, I do still have a mind of my own. I come here for love and support. I know she's just trying to be protective, but I am a 35 year old woman!!!!!!!!! So, I guess if I hang out here long enough, I'll get so excited again that I'll end up investing!!!

RRBB, Thanks for the help with the color wheel thingy. I think before when I was trying to post, I had some quotes and stuff in there that weren't in the post right and that's what messed it up.

I'm hanging out until 11pm, when DS gets his meds. Then I'm off to bed!!

Kismetdreams, the point of the second post is that it doesn't pay to rent points from someone else if you are staying outide of the DVC resorts. If you are going to live there, why will you need a hotel room? If you go once a year it can pay for itself quickly. If you go every 2 years it can pay as well...it depends on your vacationing habits. I will be more than happy to run numbers for you...

:bounce:

ohanafamily, I got you now! :)

As for the living in FL, we are supposed to get stationed at Eglin AFB, which is in Ft Walton Beach area, too far to drive down and back in a day, so to make a trip, we would need to stay overnight at least one night, and one night at Disney is NEVER enough for me! :)

I just may have you hook me up with some numbers once we get back from the wedding and I am thinking of someplace else to toss money at! Heehee!
:p

joshsmom, I hate to say this, but I have a fair bit of money in the Stock market, and over the past 3 years, my DVC is the best investment I had (in this horrible market).

I have gotten most of my money out of it in value, and I can re-sell it for about what I paid for it. Yes, it was and is a good investment, but not one to make a profit on. If you go once a year to WDW, then you don't have to worry about paying for the room.

One thing that all of my figures don't represent are the Taxes that you don't have to pay on the room when you stay on points.

:bounce:

Can I add some DVC stuff? I am not a statistician and I don't have the prices from when we purchased of the villas, so I will use the current value prices for the villas (without taxes), so the figures are not completely accurate so I believe my estimation is off a bit. I believe my totals should be higher since I did not include taxes and the times we have been are not all the time in the value season.

We purchased in 1997 for an purchase price of around $16,000. Dues/taxes have run around $70/mo = $5400 for the six years. Total $21,400 so far.

1998: 1 br villa OKW x 12 nights ($340/night)
2 br villa OKW x 6 nights ($479/night) (I remember them being $450/night then)
total rack rate: $5954 not including taxes

1999: 1 br villa OKW x 10 nights ($340/night)
total rack rate: $3400 not including taxes

2000: DLH x 3 nights ($230/night)
total rack rate: $690 not including taxes

2001: 2 br villa OKW x 10 nights ($479/night)
Inn room VB x 2 nights ($254/night)
total rack rate: $5308 not including taxes

2002: 1 br villa OKW x 12 nights ($340/night)
total rack rate: $4080 not including taxes

2003: studio OKW x 1 night ($254/night)
Grand Villa OKW x 5 nights ($1040/night)
total rack rate: $5454 not including taxes

So, total $25886 (before taxes rack rate) for our stays.

Paid for itself $4000 ago. Now, for the next 38 more years, basically all paid for not counting the yearly service fees.

I know this is simple and so many people on the DVC board break it down more and I know ohanafamily knows more of the statistical stuff better than me. I look at it rather simplistic but I find it worth my investment totally. I look at it that we are not staying at regular hotel rooms, either. We are getting villas and we have the flexibility to stay other resorts if we want or even other destinations. For a $75 exchange fee, we can go for a week in Hawaii for 160 points for a one bedroom villa!

Oh, by the way, we are renting points for our big gathering this Thanksgiving for 10/point. We are getting a studio for a total of $1150 when we were offered the same studio for this time through Disney for $235/night AAA. The couple that are staying in this villa are blind, so we wanted them in our resort to help them get around. Sure, they could have stayed at a value resort for less, but we needed to have the ability to be right by them.

Okay, I gabbed and gabbed. I love DVC and have no regrets in purchasing. I regret not getting more points. We got enough points for our family of four, but we had a surprise visitor after we bought. We have to be creative with our points; sometimes wego off WDW for a weekend or we (gasp get a one bedroom with an air matress...don't tell the DVC forum and I have been upfront with reservations and told them the exact amount of people staying and they took the reservation). Add that to the refillable mug thing!!!

 :earseek: :p ;)

Hey everyone!

Just stopped in before bed. Watched the Grammys, don't know why, I've been listening to the same CD's for the last 10-15 years. There were some good performances. I thought of HuggaBaloo when Outkast performed. It was good. George Clinton was really good.

Anyway, thanks for the DVC class ohanafamily and AZKathy, very informative. I like seeing the "bottom line" so to speak.

Nieceosaurus, if you make your Cinderella party a SLUMBER party, you won't have a bedtime!! I just bought Alice in Wonderland last week for DD-Lainie for Valentine's day. We could open it, watch it & put it back. Seeing as she is 13 months old, I doubt she'll notice that the seal has been broken!

Good night all!

The big question is...Do Nieceosaurus and Nephosaurus have to go to school?

Kismetdreams, ohanafamily, AZKathy
and gdulaney thanks for the info. I have go a lot of reading to do!! I did make copies of the info ohanafamily wrote down. Now I'm off to publish my book!! kidding aside, it was great info. You would be great at selling DVC ohananfamily!!

Kismetdreams, we were stationed at Eglin. Had both kiddos there at the hospital. Still own a home in Bluewater bay. Nice area. But you are right, a long trip to the world. BTW, I took a peek at your weddingdress. You will look just like a princess. Beautiful!

Off to get my little one ready for school. Then my 2 1/2 hr vacation starts. Cheers

Good Monday mornin' everyone! Lots to do this week! I brought breakfast<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_57.gif' border=0></a>, I have three kinds of Disney PopTarts - LK<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_3_151.gif' border=0></a> MudNBugs, Kim Possible Berry
KimPossibleSitchAnimation.jpg
<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_40.gif' border=0></a>, and an old box of Finding Nemo<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_12_9.gif' border=0></a> tropical fruit flavor. Don't worry, they'll be fine, long as you cook 'em first. Hey, will the Mickey<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_57.gif' border=0></a> toaster leave an imprint on the back?

I must work on taxes, I must work on taxes, I must work on taxes...........

BUT, today we need groceries<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_1_104.gif' border=0></a>, so maybe tomorrow?<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_6.gif' border=0></a>

Ohanafamily, just think how long you could stay at WDW if you used all those points at an All Star resort.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_107.gif' border=0></a> Seriously, they aren't that bad, but then again I just switched us up to the CS, which I am very excited about. Didn't you say you stayed there before? If so, shoot me some of your advice please. BichonBarb has been trying to help me, but she only stayed there one night. The pictures I've seen look beautiful, and I'm just looking forward to staying somewhere new. I want to stay at all the properties. I think after this I just need to try AK, Y&B Club (where I want to stay the most), Poly, and Boardwalk. Oh and PC, sometime when we're low on the dough.

So, new question today, I thought it would be fun to play the "______ or _______" game. I love that game. I'll start -

fly or drive to Disney World?

Somebody else ask one, I think we can handle a couple of these at once.::yes::

Gotta make myself neat and pretty for the day! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_3_45.gif' border=0></a>

Where is everybody this morning?<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_2_55.gif' border=0></a>

OK, fine I'll answer my own question. I prefer to fly than drive. Not scared of crashing at all, but I'm freaked out over the germs<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15_1_58.gif' border=0></a> circulating through the air after our last flight.

Helloooooo, is anybody out there!?!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_2_126.gif' border=0></a>

Definitely Fly. ohanafamily doesn't get that many days off at a time, so I'd hate to waste 2 of them - each trip - travelling.

Fantasmic or Illuminations?

They're home schooled, well if you can call soap operas and animated movies an education...

Cheeringmom another point on the DVC - is that not only are we staying in a much larger unit than a hotel room but we have washer and dryer and full kitchen. If you look at the vacations without DVC, one is spending $$ for 3 meals a day. With DVC comes the full kitchen to be used for meals, snacks. etc. Water bottles are at the grocery store price not at the inflated WDW price.. During the summer we can drink at least 4 bottles of water per person, 4 people per day@ 2.50 each is $ 40 in water..

Anyway.. Morning.. thanks llebrekniT for beakfast, gotta eat and run.. too much to do today. work wise.

Oh we drive to WDW.

Next question..

Favorite DL park - California Adventure or Disney land??

Good Morning everyone, I had such pleasant dreams last night...I was thinking about my trips to WDW...

llebrekniT, thanks for breakfast...Hmm the question.. I am inclined to say...Breakfast, or sleep an extra hour? As far as CS goes, I have never stayed there, but I have friends who have and they loved it. Seriously, the only hotel I am scared of is the All star. I was edgy about the PC because of all the stuff I read on the Rumors Board, but it does sound like it works...Also, since the Swan and Dolphin aren't owned by Disney, I am not sure about them (I understand that they are more like a regular hotel than a resort). I have heard fabulous things about POR, and as far as Wilderness lodge... well, they have their own fan club on the Dis.

Dan Murphy, Hi, good to see you drop by...Tonight during the Princess Party I think some of us are getting together for poker, are you in? any other takers?

(No Cigar smoking though, the kids will smell it and think we are breathing fire!!! and no, they don't have school yet which is why I am so nervous about them watching all of the Soaps.)

AZKathy, the trick to what you are doing without renting points...If you are staying on points at least 1 night, you get a room discount. Weekends cost a whole lot more than weekdays. you get both rooms with points for the weekdays, and pay for the weekends. without knowing the dates or the room sizes. Also, I think that they will supply you with a rolley bed if you ask, but I would call member services first.

CourtasanSatine, call wade...when you graduate, marry DF, and go to WDW every year (like us) it will hit home more...

Kismetdreams, sorry I missed your last post, we must have been typing at the same time...Florida is a big place, but, hey, you get AP Discounts for living there.

The big selling points for DVC are...A slightly bigger room with kitchen(ette) and a price that is somewhat fixed.

Oh, and one more thing to add to what AZKathy said; she has gotten what she paid out of her DVC, and if she wanted to (sacrilege) sell her membership, she could get her initial investment back!!! no profit, but inexpensive vacations to be sure...

geffric, on our last trip to WDW we ordered a Pizza through Room service. it was HUGE. We stuck it in the fridge and ate it for 3 days (Breakfast and Snacks...

OK, enough..I am being stared at to get off the computer and go into work...See what DVC does to me.....

:bounce:

Good morning all!! Got Josh off to school and now the day is MINE!!! I work a 9 day work schedule, so I'm off every other Monday. Today is MY day!!! This is going to be a weird week because I only work tomorrow and Wednesday. Thursday is a holiday for Illinois (Lincoln's B-Day) and I took Friday off. Plus I'm off Monday for President's Day. Fun!!

We fly to Disney. Too far to drive and I don't want to waste the time on the road. Although I really like sight-seeing while driving. Maybe when Josh is a little older and not so ansy! Good question about Illuminations or Fantasmic. I like both of them so much!!!

ohanafamily not they don't have roll aways! Plus, this is our little secret! This upcoming trip is the first time renting points and so far it has worked out fine. We are getting a GV and two studios for eight nights. Yep, we could get our DVC on the Timeshare Store and call it at least even, but we can't do that. We enjoy our trips too much! We would never vacation the way we do otherwise.

Fly vs. Drive? Fly all the way!

Good morning everyone. Time to get the sleeping beauties up and get them off to school.
