I'm probably Odd Man Out here...and haven't YET been to the Poly...but Tonga Toast doesn't really appeal to me. (NO FLAMES! haha) It just sounds wayyyy too sugary for me first thing in the morning. Maybe for a midnight snack though. haha I would try it if I had the opportunity but honestly do not care to have a whole order to myself b/c I acn't tolerate that much sugar. Now...macadamia nut pancakes may be a diff story however and I do plan to have THOSE! ummm!

I eat a small Activia yogurt for breakfast in the morning, nuts or a small something healthy for a "lunch" and dinner each night.....But when I'm at Disney, I Need That Tonga Toast :rotfl: It's worth waiting a year for:angel: but I know what you mean :goodvibes

I was so excited to try the Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe after the big build up and then it was too sweet for me and too dry when the big day came:lmao: . DH had the mac nut pancakes and they looked awesome. He was very happy with his choice:) We stayed CL in Hawaii so we ate a very light breakfast every other morning during our stay in the lounge( fruit, toast and juice.)

like Picabo & Shell54, i think the tonga toast may be too sweet for me, but at the same time i am really intrigued by the idea of banana stuffed french toast.

so i was wondering if you can order the tonga toast without the sugar coating? and if you did, how would it taste?

Great!! It looks like we'll stick to the Captain Cook's Tonga Toast so we can get to the parks AEAP (as early as possible)!!:thumbsup2

We had groceries delivered prior to our arrival. It was a huge timesaver. We did CC twice, and ate at CP one day.

I don't think it would be nearly as good. It would be tons of fried bread with some bananas in the middle. The cinnamon is the thing that makes it so tasty IMO. If you don't put syrup on it, I don't think it's that much sweeter than pancakes, etc.. But it's richer due to the deep frying.:scared1:

Room service is the way to get Tonga Toast the very earliest. :goodvibes If you're headed to EMH, CC or room service would be best. But for a typical 9am MK opening, we can have breakfast at Kona around 8am and make it to opening.:cool1:

Hi all thought I would try to catch up with my trip report. So... on to day 3:goodvibes

Day 3
We got up about 7:30am, got ready and headed down to Captain Cooks. This was our first time eating here and using the electronic order station. You touch the pictures on the screen of the things you want to order. DH got the TT, the kids got French toast sticks, and I got a chocolate chip muffin. I learned that if you use an adult CS point from the DDP it entitles you to your breakfast entrée and 2 drinks. I guess the second drink replaces a dessert you would be entitled to at lunchtime. I saw some people upset with this, since a family of 4, if using the DDP would walk away with 8 drinks. Someone asked if he could replace the second drink with a banana, but he was told no. It was fine for us since DH got 2 coffees with his TT, giving me one to go with my oop muffin.
I should mention that I did not smell anything strange from Captain Cook’s; I know I have read reports of people experiencing an odor in this area. We did not.
From Breakfast we walked to the TTC to catch a bus to AK. We began to wait for the bus at infront of the poly but when we saw how many people were there and that it seemed they were waiting awhile, we decided to go to TTC instead. This was the only time we took a bus. I was not sure were the parked the buses at the TTC, but a very nice CM walked me right to the very place we needed to be. All the while she was telling me about things not to miss at AK, like the baby Giraffe and elephant. Just a note, as you walk from the poly into the ttc, go all the way to the other side of the ttc for the bus terminal. It is just passed both monorail entrances.
We were meeting my parents (Florida Locals) at AK, and it was another beautiful day! We stayed at AK till about 3pm but we had the chance to do Everest, Dinosaur, Kali river rapids 2x, shop and see the Lion King show. We also ate lunch at Pizza Safari. At about 3pm my parents drove us back to Poly and they left for home. WE rested and cleaned up. We had a busy night ahead of us. We had dinner set for 5 at Whispering Canyons and from there we would do MNSSHP.
We took the monorail to MK and then a boat to Wilderness lodge. This was our first time at WL. The resort was really nice! I never paid it too much attention because the Wilderness for a vacation is not my thing. But you know, I don’t think I would mind trying it sometime. Dinner here was very fun and my boys who had no idea of what happens at this restaurant were laughing the whole meal! It was very fun and the food was good!

DS needs Ketchup for his burger:rotfl:

Yup, the blue Glowtini belongs to me!

Unfortunately, dinner was very slow… the fun parts make things take longer. I suggest doing this on a night you don’t intend on rushing out! LOL After dinner we took the boat over to MK for MNSSHP. I would say we got there about 7:30.

The boys were storm troopers from star wars! Very cute. The party was lots of fun. The park was empty and we did so much! Dumbo, POTC 2x, Haunted Mansion, Buzz 2x, Peter Pan, Winnie Pooh, Race track. We saw the second show of the parade, which was just awesome, and then left for the night.

We did so much, and planned to come back the next day so we did not need to stay till closing.
We took the monorail back to the beautiful Polynesian. Walked back to Tokelau (which my boys managed with tired feet- no problems!) enjoyed out turn down service and got ready for bed.

We were sleeping in an extra hour for day 4 and planned for an evening of swimming and fireworks at the poly!:wizard:

Which grocery service did you use, and how was your experience?

Thanks everyone for the feedback...you've given me some ideas to consider.

I was scared to have the TT because I did not want to not like it. LOL All the talk on how sweet it was scared me! It is not rich chocolate sweet rather it is sugary sweet much like the outer shell of a fried ice cream. (if you have ever had that) or french toast that is sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I never finished the whole thing mostly because it is so big.

Also, Keep in mind that if you have a larger group at Kona (Like I did. We had 6 people.) breakfast will take longer. We were there for a full hour.

Here's another question for all the Poly experts...does the Poly have a 3rd sheet on the beds (like they do at the GF)?

I can't remember from last year. :confused3

Thanks!

Yes, I agree about the sweetness of Tonga Toast. We've been enjoying it since the 80s when it was not yet called Tonga Toast.:goodvibes I would never hesitate to tell people to try it. It's a Polynesian tradition.

We often have six at breakfast at Kona and still make opening. What time was your breakfast if you remember?

We've always had double sheeting during our stays.

We had an 8:10am Reservation. Our waitress took our order and told us all she would refer to our order as a number. I was one, DS next to me was two, etc we were numbered 1-6. Then she said this would help when the food came out so that the food would be place in front of us by that order, the server with order #1 would give it to me. She said this would avoid the servers calling out "who got the Tonga toast?" etc. Well, this never happened lol the servers never mentioned numbers and were simply asking "who got the tonga toast?". We waited a good amount of time to be served. Which I thought was due to the fact we had six orders. Perhaps this is not typical? This was our first time eating there so I have nothing to compare it to. We enjoyed everything so I really can't complain. We had a good size group with food made to order, so an hour did not bother me anyway. But it is good hear that it is not typical!

Hi Tess!

Years ago, all rooms at the Polynesian had triple sheeting as well as turn down. In Hawaii, the same has been true to this day...at least when we've been there.

Someone posted that the Polynesian is now doing triple sheeting in all rooms again. I hope so!!! I love it!

:rotfl: No, that's not typical and I think we've probably had breakfast there 100 times over the years and I'm serious about that number. I wonder if she was new? That is really funny. "Here's your Tonga Toast #1, would you like some more coffee #2?" I'm glad you enjoyed your meal though. We love it and have breakfast there at least once even if we're not staying at the Polynesian.

Loving your report and pictures, BTW.:goodvibes

HA! It is rather funny... isn't it. I think my CM was Maria. I have to say too that I LOVED the Liloiki? Juice. YUMMM!!

Glad you are enjoying the TR it is my first I've ever done. I feel I owe it to everyone here who has helped me make lots of good decisions on my trip!
And I can print it out to remeber this great trip

I guess I should have been more clear, and I also used the wrong term, but I meant to post that the blanket is sheeted on top and bottom, at least that has been our experience over the years. To me that would be a double sheet, guess it's triple if you count the mattress sheet. LOL Glad you have read the whole resort is going back to it--I hadn't read that. :thumbsup2

If you don't touch the blanket/breadspread while in the bed, then it's considered triple-sheeted (I think). That's what I was wondering...it sort of grosses me out to "pull up the covers" and know the blanket/bedspread touching me hasn't been washed from the previous guest.

I never really thought about that until I worked at a 5-diamond resort and they pointed it out to us during our training. Now I always think about that in hotels, especially since I don't stay anywhere nearly as elite! ;)

I am not a fan of touching the blankets at a hotel either. The bedspread must be turned way down for me--don't want that little gem anywhere near my body. :rotfl: Triple-sheeting is the correct terminology--no doubt--I'm merely having a "senior" moment--I turned 50 today and it's really making me a scatterbrain. . . psychological, I know, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :lmao:
