Thanks Fred! We won't be on the 7th floor and we did request non smoking, so sounds like it may be a lower floor this time. But you never know!!

KarenB,

The sixth floor is the only smoking floor, so you will be fine asking for the fifth floor. Some of the best views of the Magic Kingdom are from this floor.

Hi Majestic , just read your post about how you and your wife like the courtyard view over the main pool. That is exactly what I requested for our trip in 32 days! I actually requested courtyard view overlooking either the main pool or Silver Creek Falls on the 4th or 5th floor.........I'll let you know what we get! Anyway,I consider you a WL pro and since this is our first stay at the WL,I'm glad what I requested is one of your preferences! We have been to WDW 12 yrs. in a row but this is our 4th on site stay(we also have a timeshare in Kissimmee). Just a quick piece of info about our upgrade experiences...........we have always stayed deluxe and have never been offered an upgrade, nor have we ever asked for an upgrade. We stay standard(except this time)and always travel in July. We have ALWAYS had the time of our lives and can't wait for our WL vacation to get here! My DS's are now 16 + 19 and still get as excited about WDW as they did when we first started. Anyway, thanks for all the great info you post, it's really great to read!!!!::yes::

Thanks for the compliment but I am far from a pro. I know quite a bit because I liove this resort but I feel that I learn more and more eith each trip there and each day in these forums. My friends here also know quite a bit and in many cases more than I.

As for staying in July, my wife and I did that once. ONCE! It was HOT HOT HOT and PACKED! We decided a bit too hot and a bit too packed for us so we don't plan on returning during that time of the year. :) We prefer September and January. Your choice of dates for travel could be the reason you are not getting upgraded without asking. Try asking. You never know what you might get. ::yes::

I am glad I was able to help though. ::yes::

Beckie, thanks for pointing out the smoking floor thing. I thought it was 5th and 6th floor "wing" because my parents had a 5th floor with smoking in September. (At least that is what I remember....may have been 6th floor....I dunno and they don't remember.)

I don't think that 6th floor "main" buidling is smoking though right? Just the wing?

Morning all! :)

Fred

Yes July is HOT HOT HOT and did I mention that it's HOT!!!!!!!!! But, the kids are too old to take out of school now so it's the summer or nothing. As for the crowds, well, I guess compared to Sept. it's pretty crowded but we take advantage of fast pass and the extra magic hour so all in all we manage the crowds pretty well. I think I may have posted this on another thread ,but my 2 DS's prefer going in the summer...........we went once in November and they missed the summer chaos.........go figure. One more thought about the heat, we live on Long Island where the summers are hot and humid too, so, I would rather be hot and humid in WDW:sunny: :sunny:

Majestic~

Thank you for your links to your albums. Great pictures of WL! Are any of your balcony pics from a standard room off the lobby? If yes, do you remember which room number? Thanks. :wave2:

Majestic

For many years the smoking optional rooms where located on the Fifth and Third Floors in the South Wing, but people complained about the smoke smell when walking past them to reach their non-smoking rooms. So the Lodge moved all the smoking optional rooms to the North Wing, if you take the elevator up from Roaring Fork to the sixth floor they start as soon as you get off the elevator down to the far end toward Bay Lake,so unless you are staying in this wing you wouldn't even have to walk by any of the smoking rooms. (The Sixth Floor from the evevator back to the Lobby and the South Wing on the sixth floor are still no-smoking rooms)

I found it: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

The weather is really nice out here today. Get to the lodge around 1:25pm. The hotel is supposedly booked solid but there doesn’t seem to be many people around. As always, we walk in and catch our breath at the view of the lobby. I just can’t get over how great this place is!!! The concierge manager, Mark, comes downstairs to take us upstairs. While my mother in law is checking in, they offer her the ability to upgrade to concierge for $40 a night. She takes it but keeps her room on the 6th floor so she can smoke.

Loved re-reading your trip reports from that September Trip I didn't realized Corky was there at the same time....I was still a newbie to the DIS.

I was told last month by my travel agent (The magic for less) that WL has gone to all non-smoking rooms. Can anyone else confirm this?

Sorcha

I can tell you that your TA gave you the wrong information The Wilderness Lodge has smoking optional rooms located on the sixth floor North Wing. Just there a few days ago.

Thanks - I'm less inclined to blame the travel agent than the CM who told her that info.

Thanks-

This may in fact be where the error occurred there are many new CM making reservations...or if you booked a Standard View...there are no smoking optional rooms available for that room category, just Woods View or Inner Courtyard Views.

Hey, everyone  ! I've been enjoying reading all the great questions and helpful responses. I visit this thread at least a few times a day. . .and almost every time I do, I learn something new! Thank you all! I'll be calling CRO to check on my requests since they weren't printed on my modified confirmation letter. I'll also ask about Fall AP rates! I'll post later!

:wave2:

Okay. . .just called CRO back to check on requests. I was confused because when I called last time to change my ressies from Woods View to Standard, the CM asked again if I would still like a King bed. . .and I thought standards only had 2 queens. Well, I said, "Yes, " and that was that.

Well, the CM today said that there are only queens in standards, and all standards are Non-smoking. He did note that I really wanted a Lobby room. . . that wasn't noted since I changed it last time  . So now it's noted :D (still wish we could have a king-- for more room in the room--OH WELL! :teeth: )

I also asked about fall AP rates: Addison said that they wouldn't be out until next month or August. ..so it sounds likely that they will come out for fall stays!

Great! Welcome back home agian or something like that.

OK, first off-

badshoe.com is a must see! Those lace up sandals tie for first with the pink sneakers. Yowch in both cases!

I think I've managed to nail down all of my transportation needs, thanks to Beckie and other transportation question askers! I've also decided to bring quarters. I couldn't talk myself into $50.00 for laundry.

My question du jour is:

Is it o.k. to ask for a free upgrade, or is that just really bad form? I don't want to irritate, annoy or put out any of the CM's, figuring that smiling through some of the stuff I've seen them smile through is hard enough. However, if it's not in bad taste, I may ask. Any thoughts?

babybunrab,

I agree about BadShoe.com I love to check out all the new updates on the bad shoes ect.

About the upgrade it never hurts to ask...you can always ask if there is an upgrade available, (not a free upgrade you shouldn't be charged extra if one is available) if you want concierge there will be a charge unless your real lucky. :p Then if there is great, if not it will be because of the resorts occupancy and what they have available, you will be visiting during a busy time so just say, "Thanks anyway." No Harm, No Foul no reason for the CM to be upset. Sending...
:wizard: PIXIE DUST :wizard: for your upgrade.

Beckie

I sure would love an upgrade...but I'm so excited to stay at the WL that I'm sure I'll survive in a standard view...:teeth: :teeth:

Zurgswife-I'm with you-I certainly would love to have an upgrade, but I am just tickled pink that we get to stay at WL!! We were originally booked for POR and our DU agent used a code and got us WL woods view for the same price we were paying for POR!!

I saw your countdown-we will be at WL July 10-14 (after the Magic). By any chance, could we be passing you in the lobby??

Karen

There is a really good chance as we are there until the 13th...

Maybe we can meet...
