It's awful, I haven't been out running for almost 3 weeks now because of hip problems. If I don't get over this soon, I won't have time to train for the Princess and I'll have to walk it... I'm so disappointed cause I was really looking forward to the winter training :-(

My itb is acting up for me as well. I can run but I know from previous experience this will make it worse. I'm resting now and running very little on it but I can't wait too long. I have Tinkerbell coming up and I'm not someone who can pull off a half marathon without training. I was up to 9 miles!

It's awful. I'm trying to decide if I need to beg to get back into PT for this or wait it out. My PT would work on my leg that helped the muscles, but the exercises and stretches I still have and can do on my own. Thinking I need the massage though. Ugh!

I am right there with you on the IT band. I just did a half in Oct and that now has set me back. I am doing cross training for the rest of this month. And I hope that I can start princess training in Dec, I am pretty sure I am going to plan to do the princess for fun and not for a PR.

Nothing has helped my IT issues more than stretching and foam rolling! I literally travel with my short roller to wdw for races! Try it out they are amazing. You can get them at any sporting goods store.

My plan is to cross train as well for 2 weeks, and try to rehab it. I do have a foam roller and it feels SO much better when I roll on it, but I am really terrible about making myself do it. I'm thinking I need to put an alert on my phone telling me to roll/stretch multiple times a day.

My plan was Tink for time and Princess for fun- may have to reverse that though! I may end up that Tink falls as a long "training" run for Princess. Looking at a training plan, I could make that work, but I was soooo hopeful to make big strides this year on time. Was thinking I would be sub 3 for sure, and possibly sub 2:45 based on my recent training times (compared to 3:24 last year!) But now this really worries me.

I have the sadz!!!

Bundling up for my rescheduled from yesterday due to a field trip 30 min run. It's cold and the snow showers are moving in later today. Yuck, running tomorrow (most likely inside in the treadmill) and then again on Saturday when it's supposed to be in the 60s.

I'm signed up to do a 5k with my fast hubby and fast neighbors thanksgiving morning. I will just stick to my "run as fast as I feel comfortable that day" plan.

After reading posts of those planning 10ks, I think I may have to find one of those too. I don't know of anyone else feels this way but I get SUPER nervous before a race. I ran cross country and track in high school and have competed in horse shows for most of my life (taking some time off as I leased my horse out to contribute to my Es college fund) so competition isn't something that's new to me. I swear I'm more nervous doing little a local 5k then I was doing the AOs (for those horsey people) for the first time.

I found a training program that can make me ready for the princess if I start training 11 weeks before, but the program starts from a 5 k, I need to get ready for that as well. So I really hope that I can start running again in about two weeks.
It is so frustrating!!!

I went to the indoor track on campus to run yesterday. I figured it might be easier on my ankle than worrying about rocks and cracks and whatnot on the ground. It was supposed to be an easy run, and it seemed easy. When I was done though, I saw how much faster my pace was. My average pace is a low 15 min mile, usually around 15:10. Yesterday's 3 miles were at a flat 14 min mile pace. It makes sense that a flat track would give a faster time that a greenway trail, but that seems like a huge difference to me.

I'd bring it with you and then check when you get to the expo. I honestly think they are REALLY generous with estimated finish times. But at the same time, I'd hate for them to adjust you backward.

So I would run the race, if it looks good for under 2:50, submit. If it doesn't or is right on the line, I'd hold onto it and bring to expo. Walk up, ask them to check for you. They won't FORCE the change, I am sure. But if it moves you up a corral, they will help you out. It's a really easy process!

GL!
thanks for the advice. That is what I've been leaning toward, but really just wanted some validation :rotfl2:

Woohoo for the Gator Homecoming! I did a training run on the UF campus last week while visiting my brother who's currently studying there. Wow - those hills are killer. Way to go for running with the parade!!
Two days! I'm getting kind of nervous because there will be so many people already lined up for the parade that will SEE ME! The self-consciousness is kicking in, but I have to remind myself that I can just run by in my awesome Team Sparkle skirt while thinking to myself, I'm doing it and you're not!

Just wanted to pop in and  I am still reading along... still not sure what I am doing regarding the phm. You all are so supportive though, that I had to let you all know I am still here. Your stories and encouragement help me to push forward.

I am so sorry that so many are dealing with pain. I swear it always seems like there is some kinda of pain I am chasing too. It is frustrating. Currently, I have some sort of pain that is better if I stretch... but just hasn't gone away completely. Maybe I need a roller...maybe I will stop by my local running store

I had a couple not so great weeks in training (although, what am I training for? but we will say training none the less) I went to Vegas for a wedding..didn't skip my run days, but OMG! my lungs did so hate that place...and it made it very hard for me to run. I ran on a treadmill there for the first time and decided what I already suspected - I don't like running on treadmills.

Last week I was not feeling well and my pace was horrible...I struggled to get the miles in, but still came in over 10 for the week. I was feeling a bit discouraged. My 5 mile run on saturday was my worst pace in a long time. Fast forward to yesterday and despite the pain in my...well, my rear and down the back side of that leg... I managed to shave off almost a full minute in my pace. (a couple seconds shy per mile) Not only was I super excited to do that..but it was the first time I ran under a 10 min mile pace. Now... granted, it was only a distance of a little over 3 miles (a 5k) compared to the 5 miles on Sat.... but still!!!

I am hoping yesterday wasn't just some weird fluke and that tomorrow will also be a good run... Then on sat I have a fun 5k I am doing with a couple of my kids. I tried to get the whole family to commit to it...but the best I could do was get them to say they would come to the pancake feed that follows the race. My goal for it will be to have fun...and then eat pancakes. ;) But if I am honest, I am also hoping that I don't come in almost last. It would be nice to not see my name on the last page with only one or two people behind me (ok, so the last 10k I had 6 people finish behind me...but I finished it in 1:06)

Anyway... just wanted to share what has been going on with me. Good luck to everyone in their training!!!

Friday starts my Week of Crazy:
(1) Friday - 2 Mile Run for the University of Florida Homecoming (we run in front of the Gator's Homecoming Parade!)
:worship::worship::worship: That's going to be an absolute BLAST and I'm totally jealous! GO !

I don't have official confirmation of this, but I'm pretty sure, if you're in the (huge) group that doesn't submit a time, I think they fill the corrals from the front to back based on when you registered. So if you registered early, you will probably NOT be in the last corral.
I've developed the same theory and unscientifically checked it out at the TOT 10-miler: I talked with more than a few folks in the last corral (D) who were substantially faster than me, but hand't submitted proof and registered late. I had no proof, but registered within days of when it opened and was in C.

I'm so proud of my self today! I need to vote and run before leaving for work today, so I ran to the polls! I'm crediting completing my civic duty to getting my best pace time since last year!
Awesome, on both counts! :thumbsup2

I am SO sorry to hear so many of us are dealing with ITB problems! :grouphug: I'm still trying to work my way back to 3 miles. Foam rolling hasn't helped that, but it doesn't make it worse, so I keep doing it, along with stretches and PT exercises, though they don't seem to be doing much, either. So far, the best results I've had came from a single visit to a chiropractor. She pinpointed a couple areas that are screwy in my hip and glutes, worked on them, got my left hip to pop (something it used to do daily in stretching but hasn't done since ITBS set in - what a relief!) and worked out a bunch of other kinks. I walked out feeling better than I have in months.

 I'm glad you checked in - wish things were rolling more easily for you! Hang in there; you're doing great.

Can we talk shoes... again?! :rotfl:

Long story made short: a bunch of anecdotal connections between stability shoes and ITBS led to me pulling my old Asics GEL-Nimbus 11 (neutral) shoes out last night for a quick little test run.

Oh. My.

They felt sooo good! They were my favorite shoes for a long time, never caused any pain or problems, until I was told I needed stability shoes. I've had issues ever since.

Anyway, a little research tells me the new Nimbus 14's are not much like my dear 11's, so I'm wondering if anyone here also loved the 11's and found a suitable successor, either in the 14's or another shoe altogether? A couple on which I have my eye are Asics Cumulus and Landreth, Brooks Ghost 4 or 5, and New Balance 890. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with any of those? The things I need are: neutral, but supportive; narrow heel; wider toe box; cushioning in the forefoot for a mid-foot strike.

Hey ya'll! I am running the disney princess this February and was wondering if ANYONE had the slightest clue of what denotes certain corral starts. I am curious to know the qualifying times for Corral A, and also what Qualifying time is needed to make the elite corral. There is just no info on this anywhere! help!!!!

I think I've mentioned before I was in the Cumulus for a couple of years and loved them and now hate the new ones!! One of the biggest changes I noticed in them was a narrower toe box, as well as less cushioning. The running store put me in the new Nimbus now and I'm really liking them...I've read too that they are different than Nimbus models in the past, but to me they are feeling alot like the Cumulus that I used to love! Honestly :headache: They have so many different models to cover all sorts of different issues, I don't know why they can't just leave them alone! So far, the Nimbus 14's that I have (which I've only been able to run in a few times to date, but have gotten up to a 6 miler in them at one time) seem to be alot of what you listed that you want...neutral, they have more support than the Cumulus according to the salesman (but I'm currently using some inserts due to my PF that I'm getting under control...so there's even more added support in mine), wider toe (than the current Cumulus), and definitely cushion. I'm not too sure on the heel width compared to the Cumulus...neither one has caused any issues with slipping on me, so they may be about the same in that regard...but I don't know how they stack up on the narrow - wide scale there.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou - this is super helpful! :thumbsup2 LOL, it's extra helpful knowing that we've tried so many of the same shoes and had a lot of the same issues with them - I totally trust your judgement! What you said about he Cumulus vs. Nimbus is exactly what I was thinking from reading write-ups and looking at pics, so I'll add the Nimbus 14 to my list of "to try" shoes. I'm hoping Fit 2 Run has them at the W&D Expo. My poor son has no idea I'm planning to shop for shoes and a Princess outfit while there... think I'll have him bring his DS. ;)

For those of you who are doing Tink and the Princess half, how do you guys plan on continuing training from one race to the next? I'm just curious because I follow Hal Higdon's 12-week plan, and I kind of don't know what to fill in the 5 weeks between races. I debated just doing the last 5 weeks of the training plan I'm following now? I'm not sure. What do you guys plan to do?

I am so excited for February. I love reading the posts on this board and on Facebook. I feel as though I have a huge support group and it is wonderful.

My original plan was galloways Tink plan and then doing the last 5 weeks of princess plan he provides (I was doing the non beginner programs)

But now I have ITB issues so I may end up just following the princess plan, with Tink as one of the long training runs. I was planning on raving Tink and playing at princess, but depending on where I go with the itb issues I may have to reverse those runs. Tink will be treated as a faster training run for princess.
