Welcome from a San Antonio gal! Just got done with 6.5 mi at a 14:06 pace (not bad for a 45 yr old princess & with the added humidity the goal was just go get through it!) From what everyone else has said...once humidity gets better (which in Texas means Oct/Nov) we should feel better and be able to go longer. My running coach has me concentrating on distance/endurance and then we will work on time. If you can't do the distance, the time won't matter.

Also a request...many of us are new to this thread and I'm not ashamed to admit don't get some of the abbreviations. I negotiate Department of Defense contacts so I'm not immune to abbreviations...just not some used on the thread. So PLEASE spell some out for those of us who are new. :)

Oh I know it took me forever to get some of the abbreviations on here. I think all I used was PHM? I meant Princess Half Marathon. Was there another one I'm missing?

Where is everyone planning a celebration dinner on the 24th? Me and my friend decided Narcoossee's and I am excited cause I have never been there before

Enjoy your protein shake and fall is right around the corner.

Well, there is always next year for DL 1/2. I can't wait to stop by the RunDisney booth at the expo and see if I can find out ANYTHING about the 5 anniversary medal for Princess. I'll keep you posted.

How exciting and I cannot wait to hear everything. I am hoping even if they aren't releasing the medal yet there will be Princess stuff out soon!

:cool1: I'm glad you got all the ADRs you wanted. I'm up tomorrow at 6AM to get a couple of must have restaurants.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and great training runs!

Holly

I will be there with you! I think I only have 2 to make but I want to get that out of the way

Is anyone else completely new to running? Or am I the only nut job in here?

I'm not so new anymore, but I started running on July 1. Other than that, I haven't really been a runner since high school, and well I'm much older now lol. I've come a long way since July 1, my longest run was 4.76 miles, and I've run over 70 miles total. I registered for the race with barely a couple of miles of training under my feet. I figure the Galloway plan doesn't start until the beginning of October, so anything now is just getting me ready for actual training.

I'm a south Texas (rio grande valley) new runner too! I've been doing the couch to 5k for 4 weeks now slowly preparing myself for the Jeff Galloway Princess training in October.

Where is everyone staying for the race?

So sorry if these questions have already been asked/answered here (I searched the thread and couldn't find what I was looking for). Hoping someone can help!

1) Does anyone know what the room discount is for runners?
2) Do we have to book directly through runDisney to get the discount?

Thanks in advance! :)

I started running in March. I am 51yo. Yes I am new to running.

My daughter sent me info on the Princess half. She asked "If I get in shape for a half marathon can we go? and Will you pay for the trip?" I thought If I was going to go I might as well run too.

I have run 2 5K's so far. I signed up for the You Go Girl half marathon Sept.16th, here in Tacoma Wa. as a test to see if I can run 13.1 miles. If I can do that then I will sign up for the princess.

I am kind of new to running. I just started in April. I did run in high school but in the last 15 years I have not done it at all. I also ruptured my achilles tendon and have been scared to do anything that might hurt it! Running has been wonderful and I am so happy I have gotten into it. I have done a 5K, a 10K and have 2 more 10K races to go before the Princess. I am so happy!

I'm 43 and I had never run until last year. Except when I had to way back in school. I tried couch to 5K last year but couldn't even run 2 mins at a time. I switched to run walk at my own time and distance for 2 months, but took the winter off.

This year I started up again in the spring, then switched to just walking, and now back to both. My run intervals are usually around a minute. My walk intervals are often longer.

So I feel very new at this too!!!!
Sometimes it seems like a crazy idea, but I'm really enjoying it! And the princess half is the reason I started running. Or trying to run.

We actually got a better discount/deal booking directly for the CBR and our discount was our AAA or Calif State Auto Asso. discount which was 10 %. RunDisney cost for was higher for the same property/room type.

If you want the PHM discount, then you need to book through RunDisney.
However, it might not be the best discount. It seems totally hit or miss. I called the regular Disney line first and got their rate. Then I called RunDisney and it was more. Then I called back to RunDisney two days later and I got another quote for $180 less. All the exact same days, resorts, ect. So, you never really know.

It seemed to me that tickets were a good deal through runDisney, everything else - maybe if you are lucky.

Hey all!

I started running for the first time around March and quickly through May was able to adapt and go running 4 or 5 a week and complete 4miles within an hour. At the beginning I pushed myself because of the honeymoon adrenaline phase that I was out there doing it. I would frequently try to not take any breaks during my runs if at all and would just basically run non stop.

Around late May early June I started to get a slight Achilles ache on my right side. I freaked out and dramatically slowed down my runs and cut it to 2-3miles, lightly jogged, and took more walk intervals mixed in with the running.

We're now in August. I'm training at night after work usually around 8-9pm for an hour 3-4 a week with running intervals (jog for a mile than walk for a minute). I usually hit 3-4miles and on a good day was able to hit around 5.16 in one hour exactly. I get that I've improved seeing as how a few months ago I was clocking in 4miles jogging non stop for one hour.

I also get that we're in August and the humidity should be killing everyone of us who are training in South Florida. But should I be worried if at this point I'm unable to pass that 5 mile marker? Should I just chalk it up to the humidity? Just the idea of being able to do 4miles non stop now is daunting. How did I do it initially??

Was it the lack of humidity? Will the fall weather help? Any tips to knock down the wall after that 5mile exhaustion period?

If you're in trouble, then I'm REALLY in trouble. I JUST started running period. I;m not even running yet. I am beginning beginning. BUT I know I can get this done by Feb. I am confident and so you should be too! :woohoo:

How did I, the queen of Disney planning, forget about making my ADRs?!:faint: Thanks to everyone here for mentioning it. I atleast booked for the night before the race. I got Via Napoli. I've nevr eaten there so I am excited to try it. Now I need to talk to my runningbuddy and see what other places she wants to do. Good luck tomorrow morning to those Princess who are getting up early. Hope you get what you want!

Booked my ADRs. Ohana and bread pudding to celebrate the run! BOG on Saturday before the race. I love eating at WDW.

I got Be Our Guest too for an early dinner on race day. :cheer2: That's the one reservation I really wanted.

Hope everyone else got what they wanted :)

Holly

I got BoG for post-race dinner this morning too! Very happy about that. I shouldnt have a problem with the other ADR's I want for the rest of the trip so thats the only one I booked today...I'll do the rest later this week. I think BoG is gonna be full of Princesses and shiny medals on feb. 24!!!!
