Hello all!

Just wanted to come here and brag for a second :guilty: I ran my first 5k today at 37 minutes and some change! I would've been faster, but silly me, I forgot my body glide and got a terrible rash on my thigh.... :headache: never doing that again!

Can't wait for the half and to run with all of you lovely princesses! Its going to be great!:goodvibes

CONGRATS!!! :cool1:
I am signed up for a 5k in October. Slow & steady wins the race for me. I definitely have a "running bug", I enjoy the workout and it's grew that I have a goal to work towards! :)

Just had to share because i am soooo excited! i just booked my flight for the princess weekend! YEAH! I just need to start saving up now to pay for tickets, food, and my outfit!

I am w you!!! Southwest opens their flights for that week tonight at 12:01 am so to ensure I get the earliest flight and the cheapest price I am staying up until then! This is an investment...but well worth it princess:

Congrats on the 5K! :cheer2: Ah Body Glide, my feet love it!

Age 40? You are all so young! I will be 50 next year and never been a runner or much of a walker for that matter. However, you have all inspired me. I see I am not the only one needing to get in shape for this and I'm counting on all of you to keep me inspired. At the moment by best is 4 miles at a 16 mm. But it's a start. Hoping my daughter will be able to make it too. If not I was glad to see I wouldn't be the only one running alone.

I've got you all beat - I will be 61 next month!! I'm still excited from this morning's run - 7-1/2 weeks out of chemo, and I ran 4.23 miles at an average pace of a bit over 13mm! This was using a run walk ratio of 30 seconds walk to 60, 90, or 120 seconds running. Be strong, wonderful ladies - you can do this!!!

Welcome to all the new princess:

My back was bothering me today so I did the NuStep at the gym. I logged over 4 miles in a little over 53 minutes! Now, I just need to do that standing up and 3.5 times more. :)

I'm reading Marathons for Mortals. They have a 14 week training program for walking an half. I think that is what I'm going to follow. Any other training programs that you ladies suggest that I look into?

That's wonderful! Congrats to you. I am also doing a r/w method: 60 seconds running, 90 seconds walking. I've only made it to 2 miles

I recently wrapped up a series on my blog reviewing a few different training plans, "Running For Mortals" was one of the beginner books I covered. I reviewed "Train Like A Mother", "Run Less, Run Faster" and the Galloway and Higdon programs. I tailored my reviews for the beginning runner, but I should have links to all the programs where you can find their half marathon plans, too! Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting this! I just read your review and then headed over to coach jenny. She offers a lot of training schedules based on individual abilities/preferences. Great resource, I'm thinking of using the 5K program and after that the half marathon.. :)

I'm also waiting for Southwest to open up tomorrow. A SW employee said they load the fligh info in at midnight but not all the info is up instantly, sometimes it takes a few hours.

Yes, I just called tonight and they said they couldn't give a definite time of when the flights are loaded. She did say that the customers usually know before they do...so I guess I will keep checking and cross my fingers.

They were not loaded this morning at 5am, but they were loaded by 6am. CST. I booked on SWA! YAY!

Great job! I'm still scared to sign up for a 5K for some reason, plus it's way too hot here in FL right now (or am I just looking for an excuse???). I'm scoping out some races in the fall though, to keep focused. Plus I'm looking at a 10k in November to maybe get a better corral placement.

I did my run on a treadmill this morning and it seemed harder than running outside. Maybe it's just not having the scenery to distract me.

Plunking down the registration $$ and making the room reservations has made this SOOO real to me. It's definitely recharged my excitement level!

 Hi, SuperHappyFunTimes - looks like you live in my neck of the woods!

I can tell you two things - yes, using the heat is an excuse.... kind of. But doing a 5k in the heat sucks! I just did the Melon Run on the 4th of July and it kicked my butt. However, I still finished!

I would say for your FIRST 5k, you want to find one in the fall. You want that first 5k to become a special memory and if you think back and only remember that it was so hot, or you felt dizzy or whatever, that may dissuade you from doing more, kwim?

BUT... don't use the heat as an excuse not to train outside, even if you have a treadmill. I use my treadmill for my quick weekday runs, but I always will go out on Sunday a.m.s for my long runs. This past Sunday I did my run/walk over at Ben Hill Griffin stadium! Lots of ramps and hills, to train for the Contemporary Hill, too!

I am doing a Merida inspired costume. I think I will have my mom make me a sparkly skirt to go over my compression shorts. Still working it all out though.

My wonderful friend is making my sparkly skirt. When we were at the Tink expo she was astonished how much sparkly skirts sold for and told me she could make me one way cheaper. We bought the fabric and elastic yesterday and she's right - way cheaper. I'm so lucky I have a friend who can sew!!

We're currently working on my costume for Disneyland half. I think we have an idea for costumes for Tink. But now I gotta think of a costume for Princess. Hmmm.... princess:

Yay! Flights are booked. We won't be getting in until 2pm on Friday and we'll be flying out at 745am on Monday. Wish we could spend time at the parks on Monday but our sitter situation is that we have to be home as early as possible on Monday.

I can relate. Since I'm coming without my husband and daughter, my plan is to fly home Sunday night. :worried:
