The New *Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread*

I was not a runner before I started training for Disney Princess Half marathon. My husband ran the NYC marathon a few years ago and I swore I would never train that hard, but here I am training for the Princess half. To be honest, I was inspired by the medals. So for those of you experienced Princess Half Marathon runner, I have a few questions:

I am a DVC member so where would be the best place to stay? I called DVC yesterday and they said all the resorts this year will be participating in the marathon.

Which cheer package would be the best for family to purchase?

Is the pasta dinner worth it?

Thanks

I am not a runner either, but also training. Congrats! princess:

We are also DVC members and have stayed at almost all of the resorts. My personal favorite's are the Bay Lake Towers (we got really lucky w a one bedroom last year for my birthday in March, it's a beautiful hotel), Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach. We like to be close to the "action"..MK or Epcot. OKW and SS are just to far removed for us. Not a big fan of the AK (I just don't like the feel or decorations in the rooms).
We are not using our points for this vacation (banking them for a family reunion in Nov for 2013). If we were, I think it would be great to be able to walk to and from the parks either MK or Epcot.

I was looking up the chEAR packages also and when I looked at other message boards online they said it may not be worth it if you are someone who really knows your way around Disney. If you have kids, strollers, etc I'm sure it would be worth it then.
I have been debating weather or not to purchase the $65.00 package (forgot what it's called). My boyfriend is coming and he doesn't really know his way around Disney. For his sanity I may get it for him but if my parents come he can just tag along with them :)

As for the pasta dinner I have NCGS (non-Celiac's gluten sensitivity) so I will be looking at the pasta and just wishing I could have it :/

I purchased DH the Platinum package for $99. My main reason was if the weather sucks, he has a place to hang out. He didn't want to do it, but $99 is worth it to me to avoid a crabby DH. If it is a nice day, he will probably cheer me on along the way.

ETA: I'm not doing Pasta in the Park. I have Celiac Disease and am thinking about heading to Liberty Tree Tavern. I don't eat a lot of pasta anyway because gluten-free pasta seems to just sit in my stomach forever. I want to stick with the kind of food I'm used to eating and turkey and veggies sounds good.

It's official! I'm running this race!!!! It will be my first time running Princess but not my first runDisney!! I'm super excited!!! :hyper:

WELCOME!! We own at OKW and according to RunDisney OWK and SSR are not currently listed as host resorts (but it could change) so I am shooting for BLT or BC so we can be close to the parks plus DH and I love them both. We love OKW and would have stayed there if we knew for sure it was going to have buses to the race but I can't take a chance since we won't have a car :confused3

I got DH the Platinum package (the $99) because I got the race retreat for myself! I cannot wait and the breakfast after will be good for me since I love breakfast though they better have Mickey Waffles!!!

I am not doing the pasta dinner since we won't be there in time since we won't arrive until that night. I am sad though since it sounds really neat especially with the characters!

I am thinking something similar for Saturday night. I am actually avoiding garlic and it has been helping me a lot so I need to be careful where I go

Okay now that we are all registered, it's costume discussion time! I am going as Tiana and have a friend who is going to make my costume but I need a pair of compression shorts to wear under it. Any idea where I can find a pair with side pockets (like the ones on sparkle skirts)? Sparkle Skirts sells a black pair for $48 which IMHO is way overpriced and plus, I need white short.

Hi! I officially registered for the 2013 Princess 1/2 on the first day of registration but it's taken me days to read all these posts. You all are amazing! I just love the support and encouragement for everyone. :thumbsup2

I ran a half marathon back in 1998 as my very first race ever. I had my first son in 1999 and haven't been able to get a good running regime in since then without getting injured. This time, I'm taking it SLOW! After deciding to make my fitness a priority, I discovered this race and got super excited. Running, in Disney, dressed as a princess plus a trip to Disney. Awesome!

I started in February with just walking three miles for several months. After losing 15lbs, I started the galloway run/walk in May and I'm now down 20lbs (still have about 45lbs to get to my goal weight) and doing 3 miles at a 2min walk/ 2 min run pace (around 12.5 minute miles). I'd like to work up to a 4 min run/ 1 min walk pace at the three mile distance before adding long runs. I'm terrified of getting an injury setback.

I've made my reservations at the Ft. Wilderness cabins since we'll have three adults and two kids which would be cramped in a regular hotel room. The price was pretty steep for February (I'm used to Florida resident off season discounts) $1,100 for three nights :scared: - so I'm going to keep checking to see if I can get a better rate.

Now I have to focus on training without getting injured, keeping my expectations in check (you mean I'm probably not going to come in first?!?!) and designing & putting together my Merida costume. I have long thick brown hair and I'm seriously thinking about getting it colored and curled for the race. Is that crazy?

Thanks for all the encouragement and information. I look forward to making this journey to fitness and fun with you all!

Yes....It's costume time !!!!!!

Have you tried Running Warehouse (online) ?? They are super helpful and I think they have a great return policy if something doesn't work. Also try Moving Comfort (online) they seem to have a nice selection.

This is my daughters first time doing the marathon. When my daughter registered they asked her what her favorite princess is, wondering why they asked this?

After spending the last 10 days at WDW, I have lots to catch up on here, but wanted to pop in quick to say...

I'M REGISTERED!!! :banana::banana::banana:

Registered at WDW on opening day. :thumbsup2

Loved Ft. Wilderness when we took our boys for the first time. Plenty of space and it was great that they had somewhere to play outside and I didn't have to worry about them making too much noise. Also, they have a campfire with Chip & Dale every night and then show a movie on a big screen outdoors. My kids loved it.

It will be on your running bib and it decides what color you get.

I am doing a Merida inspired costume. I think I will have my mom make me a sparkly skirt to go over my compression shorts. Still working it all out though.

hmmmmm.....you're giving me an idea that maybe I should just make my skirt instead of buy one, since I already have the compression shorts.

Has anyone here done this before and is there a good site for ideas or patterns? Also, what is the best type of fabric to use?

HELLO PRINCESSES!!!

Well it took over 2 weeks, but I FINALLY made it through the thread. And now I'm ready to announce - PLEASE add me to the list. I will be a first time princess and half marathoner. When I turned 30, I made a list of 10 things to accomplish before I turned 40. After spending the last year begging my friends to think about doing it with me, we will be a group of 4 looking good in tiaras and tu-tus. None of us are currently runners, but we are in it to finish and have fun. I'm registering for a 5K, 10K, and 15K along the way of my training. I want those can be about finishing with a good time, and the princess to be about finishing with cool pictures and laughter.

Cannot wait for February!!!

~Princess Kelly
Age 40? You are all so young! I will be 50 next year and never been a runner or much of a walker for that matter. However, you have all inspired me. I see I am not the only one needing to get in shape for this and I'm counting on all of you to keep me inspired. At the moment by best is 4 miles at a 16 mm. But it's a start. Hoping my daughter will be able to make it too. If not I was glad to see I wouldn't be the only one running alone.

Hello all!

Just wanted to come here and brag for a second :guilty: I ran my first 5k today at 37 minutes and some change! I would've been faster, but silly me, I forgot my body glide and got a terrible rash on my thigh.... :headache: never doing that again!

Can't wait for the half and to run with all of you lovely princesses! Its going to be great!:goodvibes

Great job! I'm still scared to sign up for a 5K for some reason, plus it's way too hot here in FL right now (or am I just looking for an excuse???). I'm scoping out some races in the fall though, to keep focused. Plus I'm looking at a 10k in November to maybe get a better corral placement.

I did my run on a treadmill this morning and it seemed harder than running outside. Maybe it's just not having the scenery to distract me.

Plunking down the registration $$ and making the room reservations has made this SOOO real to me. It's definitely recharged my excitement level!

Just had to share because i am soooo excited! i just booked my flight for the princess weekend! YEAH! I just need to start saving up now to pay for tickets, food, and my outfit!

I registered on Thursday and today I booked AoA for my family for the week!! I am so excited, and putting all that money down in a few days time really made it real for me. I can't wait!!
And, I had a great run this morning, that helped motivate me more too!!

FYI - I saw on another board that Disney costumes are on clearance at some Party City locations. If you are handy with sewing, you may be able to deconstruct parts from a kid's costume and "reconstruct" them around some running clothes for your chosen princess!
