Hi all or should I say Princesses:)

I am new to this forum. I won't be running this race in 2013 (may strive for 2014). However, I will be running the wine and dine half marathon (which will be my 4th half-marathon). I was thinking that I could possibly dress up like a disney princess.. I was searching for ideas on how I would make a princess tiana outfit. I saw all the other princess ones but I couldn't find anyone dressed as her. Can anyone help me?

What's a signature drink? That sounds right up my alley!:thumbsup2

Whoa what wait? For the chear package or the race retreat or both? I'm intrigued!

Its for the race retreat - so only the runners - after you finish the race and you get back in the tent, they put a little checkmark on your bib, and hand you your flip-flops, plus a ticket to get a drink. There were 3 options for the drink - mimosa, hibiscus, and I can't remember the third one - I got the hibiscus, it was a sweet drink. My mom was lucky, there was a princess at our table who didn't want her drink so she gave her ticket to my mom, she got the mimosa but it wasn't that good. You can also go and buy another if you want to, but they were pretty pricey I think $7-8 bucks?

You've sold me on the race retreat! The motto: Will run for free WDW alcohol (well, relatively free!)! :rotfl2:

haha :lmao: I think we have the same motto... i've said this a few times on the board, but the only way i'm running this race is if someone ties a sippy cup full of a margarita onto my head like a dog with a stick, and I'll go chasing it.

If its free its for me! :goodvibes

Oh and I remembered the 3rd drink was Bloody Mary :thumbsup2

HI! Newbie here on this board. I decided that I am going to run my first marathon and it's going to be the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon! Scared as heck because as of right now I can't even run a mile. However, I am going to begin some hard training here. I hope I can do this! I should be able to do this!

We are traditionally December visitors at Disney. My two sons 11 and 8 and husband are coming along to cheer me on. :cheer2:

I'm definately doing the race retreat !!!!

Silly question---Do they have different sizes for the flip flop?? One size does not fit all and my feet are a size 10.

They ask your size, and hand you an appropriate-sized pair. I'm a size 9, and the one they gave me said it was an 8-9, so I got worried, but they are literally HUGE on my feet.

PHM will also be my very, very, very first running adventure so I am "scared as heck" too! I had my first meeting with my running coach who said "forget the others who are doing 10 min miles, this is your first half marathon (first race period!) and your goal is to finish within the allotted time. I can already walk a 14:17 mile and yesterday ran my second mile (of my two mile workout) at a 13:38 pace. May seem slow to many other's but for a first timer I am sooo happy and my running coach sees no problem with me getting down to a 13 min mile. I pulled the stats from this year's race and found my fellow 45-49 yr old princess' from TX were averaging 2:45 for the race so I know I can do this too! Don't lose faith....:cheer2:

Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Princess from San Antonio! Good luck with your training!

Hi---this is my first 1/2 at WDW. (Which to me is SO much more overwhelming than the races at DL) I'm not worried about the race itself-it's just the transportation to and from and all the small details since I don't know WDW like I do DL.
It sounds like you have your training in place and you WILL do it !!!!

My first race with basically no training as well. I'm sure once we all finish the race we'll feel so good about ourselves! Welcome and it's going to be a blast.

Stick with this thread and all will be revealed! :lovestruc Seriously- love the posters here. They know so much so if you have a question, be sure to ask!

I'm planning a DL trip and found I was getting overwhelmed because I expected it to be like WDW and it's just not. They are so much the same but so different! The whole transportation thing is making me giddy at DL though. Like- you don't have to worry about it at all! Yay!

I tried searching the thread but couldn't find the specific answer. I have a 10k in November and I'm wondering what I need to shoot for as far as time goes to move up in the corrals so I'm not in the very back. Nothing wrong with being in the back, but if I can manage it I'd like to have a bit of a buffer, even if it is a tiny one. Right now I'm at about 14 m/m.

Also, anyone else here anemic? I've always been low but found out that my hemoglobin is 9 and my hematocrit is 27.3. I just started Floradix liquid iron supplement and I'm having a uterine ablation on Friday due to menorrhagia. Hoping that I'll be able to get my iron levels back up because I feel like it is really hindering my endurance and my recovery. I go back in six weeks for a follow-up test.

Sorry - this is OT - I posted on the cruise forum also but I know there are several dedicated cruisers here! Are passports required for a cruise? I know they are for AIR travel to other countries, but I seem to be getting the msg. that they are not required for cruises; birth certs. will do. Obviously, I don't want to spend over $500 getting passports for myself and 3 children if I don't have to! Thanks for the help!

You are so right....no transportation things to worry about at DL. For the races we just walk about 5 to 10 min to the race start area.

Sheesh - you miss a week and you miss A LOT!:goodvibes I spent every day, all day last week at church teaching rising 3rd graders and entire year's worth of Sunday school classes in one week. Exhausting.

Touring Plans shows the parks to be crazy busy on Friday and Saturday, not quite as busy on Sunday, and then quiet the week after the race. Crossing my fingers that this will hold true!:tink:

We got in Thursday night and were at the parks Fri / Sat. Honestly, the key is getting there early. Julie and I went just a little after park opening on Friday and rode everything in Fantasyland within 20-30 minutes! Got on Buzz Lightyear twice and only had to FastPass Splash Mtn - mainly just because we wanted to wait until the day warmed up to ride it. We ate a somewhat early lunch and noticed the crowds starting to swell after that, so that's when we headed over to the expo.

Well, I finished my first 10K yesterday:cool1: 1 hour and "40seconds"...guess I should've really sprinted that last .2 miles:rotfl: But I'm very happy with the result! I didn't think it will be that close to 1 hour since I have yet to run a 5K race in under 30minutes.

My next goal is half marathon in September! My reward is PHM next year...can't wait!!

By the way, if my 10K time is 1:00:40, would I be somewhere in Corral C? Just curious...I'm sure it depends on how many people sign up too so I guess I won't know for sure till I register.

That is an awesome time! I've been running for 2 years now and STILL trying to break an hour - came within 14 seconds on my closest try!:headache: Congrats! And you would def. be in B, perhaps A depending on what kind of other runners fill the registration.

I'm hoping/planning to run in the Princess Half this year for my first ever half-marathon! I haven't made it through reading this entire thread - but wanted to go ahead and sign on.

Anyone here logging their training on Daily Mile? I just joined - Amy V. in Deer Isle, Maine.

Looking forward to reading all the tips, plans, and encouragement here!

I'll friend you - I'm Amy A from Roswell, GA. And I'm laughing - I think they should just rename this the Princess Amy Half Marathon - that seems to be the name du jour here!

I did 2.5 miles before seeing him and am proud my time is down from 14:17 to 13:45 per mile. Slow progress but I am proud...if you have read my previous post you know my first goal is to complete the race in under 3:30....strive to get a better time...and stop for character pictures with time improvement. I probably won't see a 10K in an hour (more power to the princesses that can!) I am going to do this PHM so us

Congrats on the pacing progress! Steady training is key - way to go! Julie and I finished in 3:20 last year and took TONS of pictures.

Anyone can do this! You will see all ages, shapes and sizes at this event. Tons of interval runners and walkers. Very encouraging and friendly!

Like Patty said, stick with us and we'll show you the ropes! This board was a lifesaver when I was doing my first Princess (I've done 2). So grateful for the encouragement, and it was fun this year to hook up with some of the people on this board and the ones that I knew from DailyMile!

Amy- does this help?

http://www.royalcaribbean.com/beforeyouboard/passportGuidelines.do

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a government-issued birth certificate and laminated government issued picture ID, denoting photo, name and date of birth. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original, notarized or certified copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Note: Baptismal papers and hospital certificates of birth are not acceptable. Voter registration cards or Social Security cards are not considered proof of citizenship.

I'm reading that to say if you are going in and out of the same port, you can do birth certificates. But they suggest you travel with passports in case something came up and you had to fly out to meet the boat to another port or something like that. I could see an issue with a medical ER might get mucky without a passport, but in general, it looks like you don't need them.

There's not a clear line to answer that as far as what time to shoot for. At your current 14 min miles, you would be able to submit a projected finish line somewhere around 3 hrs, which will keep you out of the way back corrals. :woohoo: You wouldn't be in G or H, probably in E or F would be my guess based on last years numbers. So already, that's good news! :cool1:

The corral cut offs change every year, so someone running a 12 min mile might get in B corral one year, but the next year they are put in a C corral with the same time. It depends on who registers (if there are a lot of speedsters, then us turtles get pushed farther back) Does that make sense?

I'd probably see if you can shoot for a 13 min mile- that should get you a great placement in the corrals. Faster is always better, of course!

Thanks so much! I'll be thrilled if I can get down to 13 minutes by November. Not just for the half, but in general. :) Good to know that if I stay as-is, I probably won't be bringing up the rear...at least not first off  .
