Ran the Disneyland 1/2 this morning!! So. Much. Fun. This was my first half and my first Disney race. I've never run in a big race before and had trouble getting into a groove starting out - it was really crowded for the first few miles. Picked up the pace a good bit in the last 6 miles and finished at 2:19:30. All the cheering and activity along the way definitely helped keep me going strong.

Can't wait for the Princess in February! For those of you who are still worried about whether you can do this... You can do it! And the race experience is worth the hard work and effort (not to mention your body will be thanking you for all that training exercise).

Congrats on your first half! Love all the reports & pics I've seen for DL half yesterday! They're making me more excited for the princess!

Woo hoo! Awesome time! :cheer2: Were there a lot of character out on the course? Wish I could have done it too.

Has anyone heard any more about tables being released at Le Cellier?

Hubby and I just decided that we're not going to bring the kids on this trip afterall. Just the two of us.... :hyper:

Which means...we can eat where WE want without worrying about keeping the kids entertained. Woo Hoo! We both really want to try Le Cellier since we've never been.

Mamasmurf227 - I have a question. How ok are your kids? My DD is 5 and her school is crazy strict about absences, so I toyed with the idea of going by myself. I don't know if I can do it though!! Any guilt free tips?

I have gone to the princess twice without my dh & kids. YES I felt very guilty. I even cried when I saw a little girl on the monorail all dressed up, I was missing my girls big time.. BUT!!!! This race is not for them or about them.
I think bringomg them would not be worth the money as you have to be up so early for the race, bed early the ngiht before, and spend time at the expo, ect

I am leaving in 8 days :cool1: with my DH and my girls and I can't wait.
This trip will be for the kids, and we will do everything they want. So when I go back for the princess 2013 I hope I won't feel as bad.

I'll be honest, I feel SO conflicted about this trip right now. Very excited about it because DH and I have only left them overnight once in almost 6 years. But, feeling really guilty because she was going to come with us and run the 5K.

That being said, we were just there in February to celebrate her 5th b-day, and I told her that we would plan a trip in 2 years when our youngest turns 5. (Only fair, right?).

Oh, and I *may* have left out the fact that DH and I are still going. :scared: I figured learning she wasn't going was going to be hard enough to take. I'll break the rest of the news to her at some point. (Maybe when she see's the medal? LOL) Sorry, can't help much with "guilt free".

I probably wouldn't feel as guilty if we hadn't already told them we were going. What started out as something for me to do for myself--running this half marathon--turned into a whole family event/birthday celebration/vacation and that's just not what I wanted out of this experience. This was for ME--and I'll admit that I'm being completely selfish about this trip. I'm ok with that.

Good luck with your decision!

I would love to meet up with anyone doing the Rockfest Half or the Devils Chase. I think it would be great to meet before the Princess. We'll have to figure something out when it gets closer.

Good luck if you're doing the NH 10 miler Saturday.

Also, good luck to anyone doing the Disneyland Half this weekend. Safe travels and I hope you all have a great race!!!

Holly

Happybaker & LaurieG-- I sent you both PM's with my contact info if you want to talk about a meet up for Rockfest/Devil's Chase.

I'm not running the princess (yet), but I am running the Wine & Dine half in November and DH &I are not taking our son. Last year, my sister ran it and we ALL went to cheer her on. It was actually super stressful for my parents who worried about my sister, stressful for my sister who didn't really get to rest or prepare the way she wanted, and DS said it was "boring" (he's four). So although I still want him to understand that committing to something like a marathon or half is a big deal and we support each other through these endeavors - we're not taking him with us this time. He's actually ok with that, once I told him that it wouldn't be too much park time.

My whole family would have come along for my race too - big vacation, etc. But like you said, that's not what I need for this trip. I am nervous enough, and this race symbolizes so much for me that I really don't want it affected by worrying that DS is bored, or hungry or tired, or trying to coordinate a bunch of people's mealtimes, etc. I'm going to fly in, go to the expo, sit on my behind for a day, cook my pre-race food in the room, run the race (it's at night), sleep in, and then DH and I will very leisurely explore Epcot and DHS and then go home two days later.

Good luck with your guilt - and your race!

Thanks! When I called them they had no clue but thought if there was enough interest they could possibly have a pd shuttle. I think we have decided to stay at POFQ. Staying at Shades and walking to the Poly means that we would have to wake up that much earlier! :rotfl2:

I see you are in SA... me too, at least for a few more months!
Heather,

Are you planning on doing any races here in SA in the fall? Thinking about doing "run for the fund" on 6 Oct (think it is at Sea World ) and Wurst 5 mi on 3 Nov

My 3 DD's (8, 10 & 10) and I are doing Run for the Fund. :goodvibes Where is the Wurst? I am still debating the Rock & Roll 1/2 the following weekend. Are you doing that one?

Believe the wurst run is at Landa Park in New Braunfels (which I live a little closer to than San Antonio). I will find out for sure and send you private e-mail through the list .

Just found out the California Grill is going to be closed during the PHM for major renovations...darn...was hoping not to have to walk far for my celebration dinner!

Ended up making an ADR for a late dinner at Ohana in case we can't get anything at Le Cellier that day.

Thinking that we could probably have dinner and catch Wishes from the beach.

Anyone know if they do anything special for the Magic, Memories & You show on race day--i.e. pictures from the race? That would be cool and may change our plans.

Magic Memories & You is ending...or maybe it already did? I don't remember the exact date, but I read about it last week and think I remember thinking to myself that the new one would be starting before our next trip on Sept. 28. It's being replaced by another show...same technology, with projections on the castle just a new name and theme...and most notably will not include guests' pictures. Would have been fun to watch for pics on race day though!

ETA: Found it...it's called "Celebrate the Magic"...debuts in November, but MM&Y ended Sept. 3. :(

Booo! I think the projections on the castle are awesome, but I really loved seeing the pictures too. Oh well, thanks for the info. And, man! I guess I need to catch up on what's going on at the parks... Seems like lots has changed since our trip 5 months ago. :faint:

I'm going without my DDs, but my DH is staying home with them - my parents and my sister-in-law are joining me. I do feel guilty at times but my DH keeps reminding me that this is for me, that its my 40th bday present to myself. It helps that my girls are old enough to understand that we just can't afford for all of us to go when we had a big family WDW trip last fall and they know we're planning another one for 2014. All that being said, I also know there are going to be things in the park that I may feel too guilty to do without them - like eating at Be Our Guest (Belle is DD10's favourite princess).

That's my situation, as far as tips the only thing I can suggest - which I will be doing - is to plan to do things that you normally wouldn't do with DD, whether it is staying out later (except Sat night ;)) or having an extra glass of wine with dinner or riding attractions she's not interested in. Good luck with your decision :goodvibes

Hey everybody! I'm new to the board (but an avid Disney fan). So I have a situation that I need advice on. I have been planning to run the princess and have talked about it to my husband since this past February. All of a sudden, my husband does not want me to go. His reasoning is he does not want to watch the kids for a whole week and he says money is tight. However, I have my dad's timeshare, free airfare, and discount park tickets through the military. Essentially, the trip will cost me around $500 for the week (a group of us are going as a girls trip). How do I put it to him that this is extremely important for me to run this? Thanks everyone.

Release the guilt! If you want to take your daughter, I wouldn't worry about the school. She's 5 years old and you are her parent... it won't be the end of the world if she misses a few days of class. And what a great experience for her to watch her mom accomplish a half marathon!

On the other hand, if you want to go alone, she'll be fine for a few days without you. And you'll be a healthier, more confident, happy mom when you return.

We're making the Princess a family trip (DH and the boys are running on Saturday and I'm on Sunday) but then DH and I are sneaking back in May to do Everest and we're telling the boys that we're going out of town for "a race" which we do sometimes. As log as they don't know it's Disney, we're safe. But I am terrified someone will spill the beans or they will see pictures or something!!

Then in 2014, we're doing the Tink Half as a family trip and the W&D as adults only. Again...hope no one tells!!!!! :ssst:
