hey ladies-

Becky- well a 'career' isn't all it is cracked up to be either, some days i wish i just had a job and not all this stress and responsiblity. lol i guess we always think the grass is greener :rotfl: ;)

Amber- adorable pics- i just loved them. those blue eyes! :wizard:

Kelly- hope Brady feels better. Will was up from 12am-4am last night. he doesn't do that often. DH and i are exhausted! he cried some, but he mainly just wouldn't sleep. he would just sit in his crib and stare off, zoned out. he was so tired, but wouldn't lay down. i am going to bed early tonight! i think he is teething again, definitely giving him some tylenol before bed tonight. thanks for the tip on the potty- i'll remember the baby bjorn!

Pollito- your job sounds pretty cool. working from home is so great. it's nice to pop in laundry or do the dishes in between stuff. my last job that i left 6months ago allowed me to work from home 1day a week and all my company was located in PA while i was in TX. so it was pretty sweet, but i was bored. they were't letting me spend money, which for marketing is critical. so i was barely doing anything and hated my boss. i wasn't sure about the future of the co. so i miss the slowness and working from home, but i have good things at the new place too. and it sia family ran company- 3 brothers. and most have young kids, so they know how it is and are pretty good about family/life balance- i can leave for doc appts, sick Will etc. it is getting better now that i hired a mktg coordinator.

well i am actually working now- finishing up listening to a webinar my boss is doing tonight. lol- i snuck off to the DIS.

ASH- Will does that sometimes too- he gets himself so worked upa nd upset that he throws up. i can't imagine him doing it every night though. you are such a trooper though Ash. i really hope it gets better. :grouphug:

Michelle- that's the problem! I want a career, but I don't want a ton of responsibility at this point in my life (I feel like my kid is about all I can handle, some days :laughing:). Before I took the bank job I worked as a Volunteer Coordinator and Educator for a sexualt assualt response team (SART). It was a salaried postion, and while I loooooved the work, it was incredibly demanding, emotionally draining, and the commute was about 1 hr 15 minutes EACH way. So, I left at 6:45 AM to be there by 8, and then got back home around 7 pm. Plus, since I was the coordinator for the SART program, if I didn't have a volunteer to go on calls- it was all me. And while I really enjoyed what I did, the salary was laughable (I make the same amount now as a bank teller! :eek: And I have WAAAAY less responsibility and a 5 minute commute) and I knew that it wasn't going to work out when I decided to have a baby. You can't go on a call at 11 pm when you have a breastfeeding newborn and your DH is working the afternoon shift, you know? PLus I had to travel so much to go to different campuses and give assault prevention classes and it was too demanding. That position needed to be split into two separate jobs. Since I left in 2006, I think 4 other people have tried it and quit, too.

But, part of me would like to jump back into the sexual assault or domestic violence field once our kids are at least in school- I feel like I'll have more flexibility then. So, I'm just hanging out at the bank. It's pretty easy, and it pays the bills. A lot of my managers would like me to make it my career and move up, but I just have no inclination to stay in banking. Too boring for my taste, and I would ideally like to be in a position where I help people (not just help them solve the crisis that is their checkbook). ;) Although, I have to say, I believe everything happens for a reason, and working at the bank has taught me so much about finances, loans, and fiscal responsibility, so I am thankful that things have worked out the way they have, because I really have learned a lot.

Kelly- we got the Baby Bjorn too. It seemed the most comfortable and definitely the easiest to clean. I tried and tried to talk Vaylie into the pink one, but she insisted on the white one. Pink was so much cuter...

Amber- your camera DOES take great pics! WOW! Spencer is too cute. I'm glad you had a good time. I'm toying with the idea of a December trip. Since we're considering getting pregnant next year, I figure it would be fun to take Vaylie by herself first.

Jen- yeah, you live in the wrong place for Christopher to hate snow! We never get a good amount of snow anymore. It seems like when I was a kid we had way more snow- now there's never even enough to build a snowman. It's kind of disappointing.

OH! I got my projector today!!! Happy dance :woohoo:

It is awesome. We just wanted to try it out so we put in "Monsters, Inc." and showed it on the living room wall, and it's fantastic! By doing that, we made a 60 inch screen, which was great. Vaylie got such a kick out of it. She kept laughing and saying, "TB on wall" (she calls the TV the "TB"). :cutie:

Just a quick post...a "drive by" if you will!!

Kelly -- Izzy was not sleeping well, wasn't eating like normal and was acting super crabby on Sunday with a deep throaty cough (she had the cough for a few days) -- anyway - I took her to the Ped yesterday and double ear infection and the start of a respitory infection (identified by the cough and her raspy breathing). Izzy is on amoxicillian now.

Just wanted to pass along that our Ped indicated that lots of kids have this cough/infection right now...

Just an FYI re Brady...hope he isn't getting sick but if he is - get him to the Ped asap - hopefully they will give him antibiotics.

We had to delay Izzy's MMR shot again -- she was supposed to have it Feb 11th (which was already 2 weeks late - supposed to have it at 15 months) - by the time she gets it she will be 16.5 or 17 months!!

I am home today taking care of my sick little munchkin!

She is still SUPER crabby!!!!!

Have a great day ladies.

-Nicole

P.S.: Bec - congrats on the projector - sounds fun and cool!

Amber - cute pix of Spencer.

A big hello to all I missed!

Caleb was super cranky last night too. MIL said he did not take his bottle very well at all yesterday. He ate all of his solids up but that was about it. He finally took the last two bottles of the day. She also said he did not nap well but that is normal. Once DH got home with Caleb, he was super cranky until he went to bed. He was not running a fever but has been coughing just a little bit. I hope he's not getting sick too. My SIl works for the school and she said there are a lot of kids out sick now. :scared1: We tried pulling on his ear this am and he did not make a fuss...so hopefully he was just having an off day.

Nicole - Thank you for the heads-up!! :goodvibes Today he isn't coughing as much, just still the never-ending runny nose. It's all clear, though, so I guess that's good. No fever today...and he slept fine through the night, but was up at 5am. :eek: THAT was not fun! He has eaten two good meals....so I guess I will keep a close eye on him and see how it progresses, and not wait to take him to the ped if he gets worse!

Becky - The projector sounds awesome!!! I am sure V must love it!!!

k_reile - I hope Caleb feels better and doesn't end up getting more sick!! This time of year is rough, huh??

Michelle - Yikes...now THAT is a long night. :hug: Poor Will...and you and DH! I am thinking Brady's runny nose could be due to teething. It looks like he is breaking 2 more teeth on the sides on the bottom. These look like the last ones for a while, though!!

Amber - I would LOVE to get an SLR camera. I keep trying to sell-it to DH, but he thinks our is just fine and that I would never lug-around a bigger one. The quality of the pictures of the SLR camera's is just unbelievable, though!! Crystal-clear!!!

******************************************************

I am attempting to nap Brady for the second time today right now.....but it's not going so well. :rolleyes: He is up there whining and talking and screaming for "mama" every once in a while. Since he was up at 5am, he napped this morning from 8:30 until 10:30. Now he is extremely exhausted, but not really wanting to nap.

Not sure if any of you have heard about this, but Carter's is having a huge recall on a lot of their clothing that was sold in the fall of 2007. If you go to their website, click on the bottom right where it says "tag-less" labels. It will tell you all about the recall. I guess some kids were getting strange rashes due to the type of stamp used to put the size-info on the clothing. Brady had many rashes on his back and upper neck, and we never knew why?? Now we are thinking it may have been this clothing, as it strangely stopped after a while....almost exactly when the labels changed (and we have TONS of Carter's clothing). My girlfriend also had this problem....she sent a ton of clothing back that fit the recall...and Carter's sent her a check for over $500 - a full refund for all the clothes!!! :woohoo: Just wanted to let you guys know in case any of your kiddos had strange, unexplainable rashes and wanted to check-out the link!

Oh my gosh- we have TONS of Carter's clothes for Vaylie from then! I'm going to have to check that out!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I finally decided what to cook for Vaylie's birthday party with my family. There is a local caterer that has great italian food, and I ran over there this morning and I am going to buy their garlic cream sauce and tortellini!! :cloud9: It is BY FAR the best thing they cook, everyone raves about it, and they sell it packaged in the deli so you can just reheat the sauce and cook the tortellini! YUM! My sis is a genius (it was her idea). So- all I have to do is heat sauce, boil tortellini, make a salad and some garlic bread, and POOF! :wizard: Party in no time.
Today I decluttered under my sinks (bathroom and kitchen). Pretty soon my whole house will be in order and I won't know what to do with myself! :laughing:
Kelly- I just looked at the website- we have tons of clothes with those labels. :faint: Not that I'm worried, really. Vaylie did have rashes, but I just chalked that sort of thing up to the fact that babies are always getting some weird rash, and she has fairly sensitive skin. ??? So I don't know if it was the clothing or not.
You can come over to my house and organize if you don;t have anything to do. :rotfl2: My dining room is still piled high with Christmas gifts recieved and even some baby gifts yet. Calebs 0-3 mos clothes are still in his drawer. On my defense i did get a tupperware box to put them in but I have not done it yet. after working all day and by the time I get home, he eats about an hour later gets a bath, eats again and then goes to bed by 8:30pm and by then I am tired! I am keeping up good this week on the house being clean, dishes in the dishwasher and clean ones out of the dishwasher, and keeping up on laundry....so that this weekend I will have nothing to do and maybe I can do some organizing while mainly trying to relax. I am hoping i can get more done once he is older and does not need contstant attention.
Oh yeah italian food sounds soo good right now. I need to get some protein so I don;t indulge. Trying to lose that baby weight and going to the gym. Salad for dinner tonight. THough today for lunch I had progresso hearty tomato soup. Boy was that good and good for you.
k_reile- I can't even imagine accomplishing any of this while watching a baby. Shoot, I didn't get anything done for the first year of Vaylie's life. But, that's ok. I'm starting to catch up, finally! :rotfl:
So that means I have a while to go then. Most likely the organizing is not going to get done this weekend. My dining room has always been that way. :rotfl: Its because the door can close and you "forget" about the items in there. :rotfl: I barely have the energy to get laundry done some weekends and sometimes it does not get done. The good thing for me is that I have someone coming in 2 a month for 2 hrs each to do the main cleaning and it has been an amazing help. I only wish I would have had someone before the baby. Dh didn't really want to spend the money but even he admits that she does a great job and our house would look like a pigsty if we did not have her.
When I first emailed them, I told them that while Brady did have some rashes, I couldn't be 100% sure it was from the clothing. They said they would be happy to take it back. They even sent Brady a little teddy bear. I'll keep you posted on what I receive back. It may be worth sending them an email! :confused3
Hi everyone, we're back from DLR! Oh, it was soooo much fun taking Owen for his first Disney vacation, and I was so sad to leave. We did "breakfast in the park with Minnie" for our character breakfast which was super fun - we had PS for the earliest seating and got into the park before it opened for the magic morning (EMH at DLR) people, and for about 20 min. it was just us and one other family with all the characters! Owen LOVED Eeyore, Chip and Dale the best, and Dale clearly thought Owen was adorable because he kept coming back and hanging out with him. Owen also tried to chew on everyone's noses, which was hysterical, and I kept having to clean off character noses after he grabbed them with his sticky hands. :rotfl:
Owen's favorite ride by far was IASW, and we rode it 2 times in a row the first day, and at least once a day after that. E. sat in front of us on our last time through and got video of Owen on the ride so DH can see Owen singing and bouncing and pointing and going crazy. Owen also loved Pirates and would sway and point and sing through it. He did great on all the rides and just loved the whole thing. Now we're plotting when we'll go back! :goodvibes
So it was a great trip, although I missed DH and it was just crazy being a single parent for the past 5 days, even with help from my friends. I'm one tired mommy!
Now to go back and see what you've all been up to while I was gone.... ;)
Who cares about us....we want PICS! ;)
Glad to hear that you had such a great time. How did the sleeping arrangements go in the hotel? There is just something about bringing our LO's to the parks....nothing can top it for me! :goodvibes People think we are CRAZY for having taken Brady so young (at 4mo and 13mo), and I keep telling people that at every age, it's a different experience, a different memory, and something different to enjoy. :earboy2:
:lmao: I'll get pics as soon as I can...I only got a few with my camera because I was always occupied with Owen, but our friends took over 450 pictures, plus a ton of video! :woohoo: They're going to get me a couple disks with everything on them and I'll wade through all that and find a few of the best to show you.
The sleeping stuff worked out really well, even though I broke the mesh tent trying to assemble it. :headache: I snapped one of the poles off at a connector point, and despite my handy dandy duct tape, I couldn't fix it. Fortunately, the closet for our room was this funny little alcove around the corner from the main room and by the door to the bathroom. The hotel crib just fit in there once I took the ironing board off (and fortunately there was also a large wardrobe in the room so I stuffed the ironing board in there and then duct taped the door shut! :laughing: ). The only tricky part was that Owen could see me in the big mirror over the vanity if I was in a certain part of the room, so I had to kind of hide until he fell asleep. And then I had to be veeerrry quiet when I opened the door to the bathroom. But I only woke him up once, and he quickly got used to his little nook. Plus we got him a Grumpy plushie, so he now gets to sleep with Eeyore, the Grinch, and Grumpy! :rotfl2:
We didn't get the connecting rooms we wanted, but we were in room 201 and they were in 203, with 202 between us. The monitor worked perfectly between the rooms, though, and we made sure that we each had keys to both rooms, so we could take turns babysitting the kiddos at night while the other 2 went out.
Owen had 2 molars pop through on the trip - the first one came up on day 2, and the second one pushed through on day 3 - so he had a few rough patches there. He really was pretty good about it, but he wanted Mama a lot more, so we decided that I'd just be the one to take him back for naps instead of all of us rotating on nap duty. But that was fine. I didn't get to do as many rides or see as many shows, but I did get a little rest time with Owen every afternoon. I think I made it on 3 "grown up rides" - Matterhorn, Big Thunder, and Soarin'. Everything else was stuff Owen could ride, and it was really fun to experience it all through his eyes.
Oh, and he adored Playhouse Disney Live - OMG, he was hysterical! I had no idea he knew those shows as well as he did, but he was pointing to the characters and swaying and totally mesmerized for the whole thing. I have never seen the child sit so still for so long!
Boy, I'm gone for 5 days and there's plenty going on! ;)
DMickey – good luck on the BFP this month!!! :)
Becky - that’s great that Vaylie sleeps in so late! Owen wakes up around 5:30 if he poops, 6:30 if he doesn’t. :rolleyes: “sleeping in” in our house means Owen didn’t wake up until after 7:00. I’m rarely, if ever, up before him.
Way to go on the Flylady stuff! I’m so glad that’s working for you. :cool1:
The swearing in movies gets me, too. :laughing: I was watching Ferris Bueler’s Day Off a couple months ago and thought “wow, I don’t remember all this swearing in this movie!” And that’s tame compared to some of what’s out there now. Just crazy…maybe it’s just because I’m around kids so much with daycare work that I notice it more now. I know in high school I was quite the potty mouth – I was awarded a roll of toilet paper in 11th grade from my youth group for the “potty mouth of the year award”. :rolleyes1 A dubious honor!
Hooray for your projector! Monster’s Inc is a great choice for the premier! I love that movie…and the ride at CA was a blast! :woohoo:
The food for Vaylie’s party sounds yummmmmmy! mmmmm….
Polito – Glad Alex had a great birthday, other than the head bonk. He looks like such a big boy in the pictures!
Jenny – glad Noah’s feeling better! I hear you on being freaked when the fever is so high. We got spooked when Owen had his double ear infection last month. He was just so listless and it was scary seeing him like that. :guilty:
Nicole - sorry that your DH’s b-day party had to end with a fender bender. Bummer…but the food sounds yummy! Hope Izzy is feeling better soon. We’ve had to postpone some of Owen’s shots, too, so between his being sick (double ear infection – just like Izzy) and our slower immunization schedule, he’s a bit behind.
Ash – sorry that Ellery is still having a hard time sleeping. That’s no fun. We couldn’t do CIO with Owen, either, but we did manage a modified version that worked well. But Owen would make himself sick, too, if he cried for too long. I think he’s grown out of that, but it’s hard to tell because he hardly ever cries for more than 3 or 4 minutes now.
Super wow on the weight loss! :thumbsup2 That’s awesome! I really should lose another 10lbs, but I seem stuck right now. I just can’t get this plateau. I’ll have to check out that website.
Michelle – I wish I could send you the nametag artwork, but it was a friend who did the shirts so I don’t have the file. They did get a lot of attention, though. We wore them on our Toontown Morning Madness day in hopes that we could get picked as the family of the day, but we were the 5th family in line and they just picked the first family through the gates. Sorry your job is so stressful, but at least it’s interesting! :)
My 10 yr. plan is to get a certificate in Spiritual Direction and then doing that as a part-time job. It’s somewhere between a counselor and a pastor, but the focus is just on helping people grow spiritually (which occasionally involves referring people to a counselor or a pastor). It’s something that I can use my creative skills in and it can have flexible hours, although you do need to be available for some evenings for appointments. Plus I could work from a home office if I wanted. But it will be a while before I get there – I have a bunch of pre-requisites I have to finish before I can even apply for a program, and to do the program part time will take 2-4 years depending on how many classes I can take at a time. In the meantime, it’s childcare for me…I can do it from home and I can pick my clients.
And hooray for your cruise soon! :cheer2:
Amber - oh my goodness! Spencer is so cute in those pictures! He looks like he had a blast! He looks so sweet asleep! :angel: I have a dSLR, too, and I just love it. The picture quality and options are so great, and I have fun being creative with it. I agree with you on lugging it around.
This trip to DL I didn’t bring my camera backpack because I thought that we needed a diaper bag plus a camera bag/purse thing for me. Frankly, it was a pain to cart both around. :headache: I should have just brought the camera backpack – it has a special cushioned compartment in the bottom for my dSLR, plus room for the telephoto and my video camera, and the top part is like a regular backpack compartment for other stuff. I could have fit everything we needed in that.
k_reile - Owen is 14m and he LOVED the characters – although he was more reserved with the face characters than the others. One of our friends had the tip to show your child videos of the characters with people before your trip so that they can see the proportions of the characters to people and see how big they are.
Kelly - sorry that Brady’s cranky and doesn’t feel well. It is miserable when they don’t sleep! :guilty:
And Hi to everyone else...sorry if I missed anyone! :goodvibes
Alexander how to hold up his two fingers when we ask how old he is. Figured we'd start early.
We have been trying to teach Alex that since a little before he turned two, but he just didn't get it. And now that he's talking so much, when we ask him he'll answer, but he'll give whatever number pops into his head,which isn't usually two. :upsidedow
Plus, I have holidays off, no night shifts, never work on Sundays. Could be worse. :)
Now that is a nice job perk! :thumbsup2 Sometimes I think I would give it all up for a job like that, with low stress. I guess everyone wants what they don't have.
She kept laughing and saying, "TB on wall" (she calls the TV the "TB"). :cutie:
You probably won't believe this, but Alex calls the TV "TB" too! :p
For my FT job, I work 2 24 hour shifts a week. That was great, having 5 days a week at home.
I think I could get used to that!
Amber - adorable pics, it looks like Spencer had a great time! Nice to see another thumb sucker :thumbsup2
Kelly - Thanks for the tip on the Carter's recall, somehow I must have missed that one on my CPSC e-mails. We have tons of Carter's clothes (who doesn't?). Is Brady doing any better?
Michelle - That's pretty cool that they let you hire a mktg coordinator, and it's so nice to have a job where the bosses are understanding of family stuff. Shame on you for ignoring a webinar for the DIS - I would never do that! ::yes:: Though I might have painted my toenails during one today. ;)
Kreile - I hope Caleb is feeling better, something seems to be going around all over the country!
Bethany - welcome back from Disneyland! I'm glad you and Owen had such a great time - IASW & Pirates were Alex's favorite rides too! Can't wait to see pictures. We're debating our first trip to DL in June, since it will be my b-day and I can get in free, and Alex is still free, so we would only have to pay for DH. It's probably going to depend on how much we get back on taxes this year, which I should find out this weekend.
I screwed my family, I don't want to go in to a lot of details...i was fired yesterday (wed). Now I don't have insurance for me or Mo...hubby has VA. Wow...I should have left LONG ago, before this happened. I'm so scared. I just need to cry, but I have to take care of Mo. I REALLY hurt my family. :sad1: :guilty: I'M SO SCARED.
Oh Denise...I am SOOOO sorry!
Can you get Cobra - how about some kind of free medical insurance like Medicaid?
I know you don't really want to talk about what happened and I understand your need for privacy -- but --- is it possible you have grounds for a lawsuit? If you want to share some of the info - then maybe we can help you too see if there is a basis to sue them - maybe there are discrimination grounds?
Can you collect unemployment? Even if your employer told you you can't - you should still apply right away - you never know and with the new stimulus bill I think the government is now picking up 65% of the cost of cobra.
We are here for you.
Vent away!
You did not harm your family - these things happen.
How come DH does not have insurance at his job? Can he get it at his job?
Can you find another server position at another restaurant that will offer you insurance?
Hugs,
Nicole
Bethany - Sounds like the crib in the closet thing worked out great! :thumbsup2 I still need to dig-out the pics of Brady in the closet at Disney. He LOVED it in there. Funny how after the first night, it was part of his new routine. Gotta love how kids (most of them) are super flexible! Can't wait to see all the pics. Playhouse Disney live was a bit hit for Brady too....he just danced and bounced to all the music. Too cute. :upsidedow And two molars - yikes! Sounds like he did good for cutting two difficult teeth!! :thumbsup2
Denise - :hug: I'm so sorry for whatever happened. :grouphug: You have so much faith in God...I am sure he will help you along this new path. Are there any other restaurants hiring in the area? I hope you are able to find something new soon....come vent here whenever you need to. These things happen....and they will pass (hopefully sooner than later).:hug:
*********************************************************
Brady slept fine through the night last night...went to bed at 6:30 and woke up at 7:30. His nose is still runny, but he ate a great breakfast and doesn't seem any worse than yesterday. I feel like I'm just waiting for it to get worse, ya know? popcorn::
