Nicole - that is so scary! You and Izzy will be in our t&p. I really hope she is feeling better soon! That is too bad about having to cancel your date w/DH, but I would have done the same thing.

TiggerStac - I hope your foot is better, I am so clumsy, I do that kind of stuff all the time!

Kelly - Alex goes through phases of not wanting formula, or later milk, too. We figured out that sometimes it was when he was teething b/c all the drainage was making his throat hurt, so he didn't like the formula/milk. It makes sense; I don't like to drink milk when my throat hurts either. It usually didn't last too long, and he was still drinking water & juice. Sometimes I also gave him pedialyte, but he never seemed to like it much. I tried a few different flavors, but no luck. But like some of the other ladies said, trust your instincts. I'm sure Brady will drink formula again when he wants it. And I don't think giving him milk would be the end of the world either. He is not that far from 1 year, and he is big for his age and can probably handle digesting it just fine.

QUESTION OF THE (weekend) DAY If you child had been the opposite sex - what would his/her name have been?

If Alex was a girl, his name would have been Isabel. That was DH's mother's name, and she passed away 10 years ago, plus I think it's a very pretty name. :goodvibes We hadn't settled on a middle name yet when we found out DS was a boy, so we stopped discussing it, since we hadn't agreed on any boy's names yet.

I think we will still use Isabel if we have a girl next time, which DH says he will let me :lmao:, but I'm still not sure what the middle name will be. I think either Rose, Grace, or Maria.

Well, I picked out Sam's name..Samuel because I love the name and Robert because thats DH's name. Robert picked out Zoe after we talked a long time about girl names and I loved it. Her middle name Brynn was my idea..I love that name.

I wanted to use Lewis for Sam's middle name because thats my grandfather's name, but it just had to be Robert. Iwas also stuck on Violet Grace for a girl's name for a long time.

Don't know what we'll do if we have any more! :dance3:

I am glad that Izzy is doing ok.

As for the formula ... Alexander went through phases where he doesn't want much for formula or milk. Even now he goes through those phases. I don't worry about it. Especially as they start eating more table foods and i got more comfortable with feeding him well rounded meals. Alex still gets some formula at night because i just don't feel that comfortble with table food but he barely wants that anymore!! I read in a few places that as long as their diets are well rounded over the course of two weeks it's cool.

We knew Alexander was a boy at the first ultrasound and we never really discussed girls names. We had thrown around Emma and Emily but never solid on anything. However we already have names picked out the next baby which is probably at least two years away. For a girl we like Sera Christina or Sera Margaret and for a boy i have my heart set on Ryan Christopher. I wanted to change Alex's to Ryan at first but DH wouldn't let me.

We went for Alexander's first haircut today ... It was the coolest place. They gave us a little certificate with a before and after picture and a little baggy stapled to it with his hair. Sooo cute!!

QOTD- We had Spencer Thomas picked out forever as our "boy" name. But, then I started leaning towards Wesley Thomas (which DH doesn't like as much). Either way, the middle name would be Thomas (DH's middle name and FIL's middle name).

I didn't get too worked up about a boy name, though, because I just knew I was having a girl. I'm pretty convinced my next one will be a girl, too. She'll be Karis Marie (Marie is MIL's middle name). And if the next one tricks me and is a boy, he'll be Wesley. Despite DH's objections. Wes. So cute.

Nicole- wouldn't this be a great time to whip out the magic wand and make it all better?

Bethany- I wouldn't even know what to do with a beet, and judging from your story, maybe I won't attempt anything.

And, I know Ash is at the beach, but V's dress came in the mail today. I'll try to post pics later. For now, I'm going to go hang out with my hubby, who is finally not sick.

Brady's name would have been Savannah Dorothy. Dorothy is my Nana's name and that has been set to be the middle name of my 1st girl.

Tyler (6 year old) was going to be Olivia Dorothy.

So I ended up w/Tyler Thomas (thomas is my dad, my uncle) Brady Alexander (Alexander is my great grandfather and many others on my Mom's family...Alexander Graham Bell is actually a however many great uncle of mine)

I hope our little ones stop falling!!

As i was reading about Izzy, brady decided to fall off the couch. I guess he's taking after me:goodvibes

I'm glad she's doing better with themp, hopefully her arm will feel better soon.

DMickey...Alexander has the biggest eyes I have ever seen. I love seeing your pictures, he's soooo cute!

ACK!! It's contagious!! *BIG HUGS* to Izzy and Nicole. I know EXACTLY how horrid it is! Colin's nearly back to normal -- cruising and standing again now, but still sometimes comes down on his right leg funny and fusses about it. I would imagine that Izzy will come around the same way -- it didn't take Colin long, considering it happened on Tuesday and he's standing on it again.

QOTD: If Colin were a girl, he would've been Amelia Mari Ann (Mari after MIL and Ann after my mom's middle name). Amelia is a couple generations back on DH's side -- they're Italian. We had also considered Jacob, Ethan, Owen for Colin as well, but they're all VERY popular. I don't know what we'll do if the next one is a boy -- we had such a hard time picking out Colin!!

Well, we went to a great Canada Day BBQ today at a friend's house and Colin had a blast! Since our holiday is actually on Tuesday, most of the celebrations are happening this weekend, since a lot of people have to work Monday and then get Tuesday off. I think we might go to the fireworks on Tuesday though -- Colin loves the ones at Disney, so we figured we'd give it a go. Plus, our local Rotary Club has a "Dream Home Lottery" every year and we bought tickets so we have to go see if we won! I'm hoping so!! ;-)

Anyhoo, off to bed for me. I think Colin may be growth-spurting (is there one at 12 months??) because the last 2 nights he's been up and taken a 4 oz bottle in the middle of the night. I'm anticipating it again tonight, so I better get my butt to bed!

- Mel

:rolleyes1

Vaylie took a spill off the couch tonight too. Onto her head.

WTH is going on?

Have our kids all gone mad? Do they have some sort of conspiracy to make us all have heart attacks? Good grief.

Luckily, she cried a while, laid with me in the recliner, and then we went for a walk and she was fine.

Geez. Enough with the accidents, kiddos! :)

-Nicole

Nicole....glad Izzy is okay! I cannot imagine how I would have been had that been Mo! :faint: Here's hoping little Miss Izzy is 110% VERY soon! :thumbsup2

AND...had Mo been a girl his name would have been Rivka Ariel. :cloud9:

::yes:: ::yes:: Mo rolling off the bed, Izzy tumbling off the changing table, Brady rolling off the couch....IT'S A CONSPIRACY THEORY!!! :lmao:

Well, Owen hasn't fallen off of anything yet, but as of today he's well on his way. He's been able to roll over for a while now, but has been really selective about when he'd do it, and didn't seem to care about it one way or the other.

Today he discovered that when he rolls, he can get somewhere and get to stuff otherwise out of his reach. AND he discovered how to dig his toes into the carpet and push himself forward an inch or two when he's on his tummy. All of a sudden, my boy is on the move!

So I've been reading all of the stories about your kiddos falling off stuff and sharing them with DH, and I've told him that we've got to be extra vigilant from now on.

But I thought I'd share with you a funny story from my nanny days of a time when the girl I was taking care of almost took a header off the bed. This was almost 2 years ago now...right about the time we started TTC.
If only someone had been here to see it!

The setting: DH and I were getting ready to leave for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival later that day, so G. (the baby girl - she was about 10mo. at the time) and I were in the bedroom, with G. playing on the bed and "helping" me pack (mostly taking things back out of the suitcase and shaking them out after I'd put them in nicely folded). G. was also trying to play with Beatrice (the cat), who finally decided to jump into an almost empty laundry basket on the bed and warily watch the little fingers being poked at her through the basket's holes. In addition to the kitty amusements, I'd brought 3 toys onto the bed to keep G. occupied. She was especially enjoying waving the little lamb around, particularly in the direction of Beatrice.

The save: G., in her enthusiasm, managed to fling the lamb through the air towards the bathroom on one of her more vigorous waves. Beatrice decided to investigate, and as the lamb is in the air, she leapt out of the laundry basket and towards the lamb (which landed on the floor just outside the bathroom). G. thought this was fascinating, and with lightning speed crawled to the edge of the bed. I was on the opposite side of the bed, and the moment I realized what she was intending to do I dived towards her...

G. headed blissfully over the edge of the bed just as I grabbed her by the leg! She was now upside down hanging off the bed, while I was stretched out across the bed with my arm fully extended hanging on to her left leg. There was a moment of silence, and then the crazy "roller coaster girl" (she loved being startled) started laughing and kicking, and I had to quickly try and get a better hold on her 24-pound 10-month-old self and pull her back onto the bed.

It was one of those moments where once the impending disaster was averted, I just couldn't stop laughing. Unfortunately, G. thought it was hysterical, and decided to keep zooming towards the edge of the bed, so that play space was over...

Adventures in childcare! I emailed her parents and DH about the incident, and DH's response was "Good thing you caught her - I think the parents are supposed to be the first ones to drop their child on her head. It just wouldn't be right if you stole another one of G.'s "firsts" from them." Her parents just laughed and said "That's our girl!"

:lmao: :rotfl2:

Bethany- that's too funny.

Vaylie did that too once- but she would stand on the bed and bounce... No big deal. However, one time she decided that she would stand up and fall backwards, with the intention of landing on the bed. She missed. And I caught her foot, luckily, and there she was- dangling off the bed with Mommy holding one leg, and boy did she think THAT was fun. :sad2:

I'm so glad Izzy is okay! That sounded so scary; I would have been extremely frantic too!

As for yestereday's QOTD: Had our 3 year old been a boy, she would have been Hunter Blake.

By the time we decided to have another baby I was over the name Hunter though. Dh still loved the name Blake for a middle name so we went with Cohen Blake instead. If Cohen had been a girl he would have either been Teagan Schaare (Schaare is a family name), Teagan Nicole, or Kelsey Nicole. Dh loved the name Kelsey so we would probably have gone with that I think. We'll never know now since neither of us want any more kids. ;)

And as far as accidents go, when my dd was 6 months old she rolled off the bed and her eye caught the side of her bassinet and cut and bruised it a little. I was hysterical and I am certain I cried more than she did. Of course she did it the day before her Christmas portrait session was scheduled so we ended up rescheduling that. She also tried to roll off the bed another time but I was quicker that time and also caught her by the leg before her head hit the ground. I was pretty proud of myself over that one. I am seriously hoping to avoid any rolling accidents with Cohen but I am not completely holding my breath either as I know how quick and spontaneous these babes can be!!

Oh, ladies, I am B_O_R_E_D.

DH is out cutting grass and raking the lawn.

Vaylie is napping.

I should be cleaning house, or taking a shower and getting out of my jammies (it is almost 4:00), an yet, here I sit, DISing and surfing the net for Mickey Mouse craft ideas (I was inspired by the Mickey Mouse lamp another DISer made).

A while back I found directions for a Mickey Mouse Christmas wreath- totally cute.

Hm. Still bored.

Hey Becky, sometimes I wish I was bored! :rotfl:

I totally get sucked into surfing the web, though...I've lost hours and hours of my days that way.

Blech. Dh has misunderstood our upcoming 4th of July trip.
We are good friends with a couple who lives in our neighborhood - in fact, he was in our wedding, and their daughter is the girl I nannied for a while. He makes short films, and they are going to Fresno this weekend to make a promo video for an urban ministry that is run by another couple we're good friends with. (the wife of this 2nd couple was my roommate in WI for 7 years, and her husband has been friends with the first couple for 10-15 yrs....long story, but very funny connections).
ANYWAY, I thought DH understood that we were going down to Fresno to help with the filming process - bring food to the film site, handle childcare, etc. Today it became clear that he was picturing a leisurely "hang out, play games" sort of trip with these two couples. We have done that kind of vacation with them in the past, so I can see how he got confused, but all along when we've been talking about this, we've been discussing the filming process, so I thought he got it.

Well, now Captain GrumpyPants has realized that it's going to be all about the filmmaking process, and now he's not looking forward to the trip and is ooozing grump-itude. Sigh. I knew he was cranky when I married him, but sometimes I wish he were less grumpy and more "cheerfully tranquil". (DH likes to say "I'm being cheerfully tranquil, darling. Cheerfully tranquil!" when really he's feeling grumpy but knows he shouldn't be.)

Oh well. Could be worse...and he'll get over it. ;)

(DH likes to say "I'm being cheerfully tranquil, darling. Cheerfully tranquil!" when really he's feeling grumpy but knows he shouldn't be.)

:lmao:
Cheerfully tranquil. That's good.

My DH woke up grumpy today too. He has been hollering at the dog, getting all short with Vaylie (who has tried to turn off the computer about 4.2 million times, so I kinda understand), but still- geez. It's a dog and a 16 month old. We're not exactly dealing with super-genius rocket scientists who oughta know better. Give 'em a break.

Finally I told him, "I am going to record you snapping at them and let you watch it so you can really hear yourself, and hear how you sound."

His tone was much softer after that. :)

(Disclaimer- DH is usually the nicest, most relaxed, patient guy you'd ever meet. )

Funny, it must be a DH-kinda-day. ;)

Today DH decided to give Brady a haircut. Now, Brady has the cutest hair - I love it. :lovestruc He has a big-boy hair-do that I think is adorable. Well, aparently DH thought it was a bit too long :confused3 and used the clippers. OMG he looks like he is about to enlist in the military. I HATE it....and let DH have it when I saw what he had done. Uggggg....here is a pic...*sigh*... at least it will grow. Hopefully quickly...

Why on earth would a man do this without a proper mommy-consultation first?!

Men don't "get it" when it comes to kids' hair.

Poor Kelly.

But, Brady still looks adorable! :goodvibes Just don't tell your DH.

Ya, even after I flipped-out, I still don't think he really understood what the big deal was. :headache: O well....men....and I should have known what I was in for....this is what DH's hair looks like!
