The new Mummy ride

Please tell me it's not true! I wanted to see if I could get out there before the grand opening!

What a bummer!!!

DM-is it true?

Its true. They've always planned to close the ride back down for a few weeks to tweak the effects and to install the animatronics. I'm surprised it was open as long as it was, but makes sense it was closed today as the Spring Break rush ended this weekend.

And currently, the grand opening is scheduled for May 21st.

I rode it on the 10th of April...they had a sign up saying ya know "We are testing this. It will be periodically open throughout the day...blah blah". Outside of it they have the seats so you can see if you feel comfortable in it etc. My best friend is TERRIFIED of coasters and she didn't really know anything about the ride but she rode it and was cussing us out the whole way and said she'd never ride it again. Sooooo if yr really really scared of coasters this may not be cool for you. Personally I think it's the best ride at US now and it's even better than some of the IOA rides like Spiderman. The bugs thing is cgi so don't worry. There is lil fire parts (kinda like Jaws and stuff) but yr not "surrounded by fire" like they said on the damn preview to it (or maybe you will be but they're not done) It's also not UTTER DARKNESS like they've been saying but it is pretty dark. The line was nothing when I was in it but I actually think the day I rode it may have been the first weekend day it was open so...I don't know...but yeah the WALK to the ride was as long as MIB so they are anticipating a crowd....and once word of mouth spreads they'll have one. It's the best ride there right now.

Oh no -- say it AIN'T so!!! We have less than two weeks to go -- they can't close it before we get there. :(

I am SO depressed! Was really hoping that it would still be open for soft openings while we were there. Maybe an AP preview event??? One can only hope :)

Not necessarily true. If you aren't fond of coasters, give it a shot, and then decide. My mom HATES rollercoasters, but she absolutely LOVED the Mummy. Everyone's different. :)

I personally hate the bug scene. Sure, for most people it isn't creepy or anything...but eeek!! Just the thought of creepy crawling bugs.... At one point, I just closed my eyes, and my mom tickled my knee like there were bugs. I freaked out. Cruel mother! lol.

But, take this from a person who can't watch the spiders in Shrek, and puts her legs up so she can't feel them... :p :p

Hi flyfly.....can you clarify the bug thing. I hate all things creepy crawley too...do you see a swarm coming towards you and then feel some because of special effects to the car? Also, did you think the coaster was smooth with lots of turns that glide or was it more jerky?

you didn't really feel the bugs, except when my mom added her own effects  but just seeing bugs, and seeing them spill out all around you, with the yucky bug noise....freak me out. I'm one who'd scream like a maniac at the sight of ONE bug, let alone hundreds. At least they weren't real...but I only imagined real bugs...

The coaster was pretty smooth, yes. It was SWEET!!! :)

Hi all ~
My family rode the mummy ride on Saturday night, April 17.
Everyone loved it.
It has to be one of the shortest timed rides at Universal. No one mentions this ~ for so much hype & such long wait times, that part was a bit disappointing.
And, while we were there, people were comparing the Mummy to Disney's Space Mountain. Not a good comparison at all! The Mummy is much shorter, goes backwards, and of course has much better special effects.

Actually, the Mummy is a little over 3 minutes. Space Mountain stats are listed as 3 minutes.
RnR coaster is only 90 seconds.

Space Mountain in Disneyworld is 2 minutes and 35 seconds (to be exact):p

If Mummy felt shorter than Space Mountain, it just goes to show that time flies when you're having fun!!!

We just got back from a great long weekend at Universal and our whole family was just crazy about Revenge of the Mummy. (OK, my 10 year old thought it was pretty scary, but he LOVED the coaster section.) We rode it on Thurs., Fri. & Sat. and must have gone on at least 20 times! It's that good. We rode as a family about 5 times and split up to use the single riders line for all the other rides. You should go through the queue at least one time to get the story line from the TV monitors. It's funny and you won't understand the Reggie and Brendan Fraser stuff otherwise. I didn't find the scarab beetle section that scary. I would think that something more may be yet to come there....

In reality the coaster is most likely comparable in speed to Space Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain but it FEELS a lot faster and you get air time in at least three spots, which is awesome.

Threeboysmom: You asked about a possible AP preview. We were at IOA guest services on a different matter and started talking about ROTM. The CM there mentioned that they were expecting to have an AP event in conjunction with the Mummy's official opening but could not say exactly when for sure. I hope so because I can't wait to get back and ride it again:D

Actually, it is most likely comparable to Space Mountain, as far as Roller Coasters go. No flipping up, you're in the dark, yadda yadda. It's just a way more updated SM with cooler effects.

If you can go on SM, you can go on this ride. The beetles, don't be scared, they're projected(I think) on a wall above your heads. It's not that bad at all. And is only like a few seconds.

And Figment's right, you should wait through the movie to understand, because it has that theme too it. It's not like for the mummy movie, like Spider Man is.

I need some help in figuring out if this is a coaster i can ride. First let me say i use to think i was a total coaster chicken but i figured out that i was really scared of hieghts so as long as it's in the dark i'm fine. I've ridden space mountain, big thunder, and Aero smith coaster but couldn't do Hulk or Dueling Dragon and didn't care for Tower of terror. Without giving away the surprise do you think i'll be able to ride the Mummy. I hope you guys say it's no problem as i would love to ride this on our Oct. trip.
