Does anyone know if the new attraction "Mummy" has opened at Universal and if so what are your likings to it? Scary?? Fun?? I heard something about Beetles and oh my I hate bugs so I am alittle nervous. I love rides though.

They are testing the ride now. Alot of people really like it. There is a part with beetles, but I don't think they even touch you.

I am 40 years old and not that adventurous about rides, no Hulk or Dueling Dragons for me. I tried the Mummy and liked it. It is really fast and dark. There is a small part with bugs, they do not touch you. Once was enough for me but my kids ages 9 and 13 tried it 10 times! They loved it. Give it a try.

Here are some of the reactions I've (over)heard from people as they exit:

"That was more fun than the Hulk!"
"OH MY GOD!!" (excited/amazed)
"That was scary!" (excited)
"That's the best ride I've ever been on."
Plus countless "That was fun!" "Let's go again!" "Wow!" "That was so cool!" etc.

So, yes, the fun factor is quite high. The excitement/enjoyment is also high. If fact, ROTM is currently the #1 rated ride at USF/IOA. :)

And don't be too concerend about the beetles. Sure, they're just FLESH EATING SCARABS! :scared1:, but they don't touch you. Or do they? :scratchin :jester:

It's tons of fun! So fun, that I have now ridden it 75 times, and I bet the employees are sick of seeing my face.

75! Wow.

After your 100th time, we'll give you a free...

Hi! Are there any violent jerking motions, any big drop-offs or any spinning? thanks!

Violent jerking motions? The cars stop abruptly a couple times, and the cars experience sudden swift drops during the coaster section.

Big Drop-offs? The Drops during the coaster section aren't that big.

Spinning? No. The car is slowly turned on a turntable, but I don't classify that as spinning.

Does the ride turn upside down at any point? Would like to try it but can't handle coasters for that reason.

No it doesn't go upside down! US have proved you can create an amazing rollercoaster without inversions! Can't wait to ride it.

Here's my little experience with testing the ride! (copied from another post)

Ooh! I went on the Mummy ride the last day we were there, which would be this past thursday(the 15th of April). It was me(16 years) my two bros and their friend(all 13) and we had just gone through the carni games and won things there(go fuzzy hats! ) As we walked up, there was a big stream of people, and lots of yelling and such, and we found out that the ride had just reopened for the day. A guy with a bull horn was calling out the things you mention, everything must be stowed in a locker, yadda yadda. We all got in line, sans fuzzy hats and other stuff we won.

The time outside is way way wrong. If it says like 10-20 min line wait, it is tons longer. Even though we were close to the front, it took about 20 mins to get even close. Then, the ride had dificulties, as of which they didn't know how long it would be, but because the line for it yesterday was 90mins, we decided to take our chances, and the line was moving up from all the people leaving every min. or so. That went on for about 25 mins, until they said we all had to leave, as it would be lots longer.

We came back later that night, because I was determined to ride it before lots of others, and it was my last day, and it was open. We waited for about 45mins(even though it said 20) to get on. The CM do a good job with their little acting bits, and the ride is really worth it. It's really cool, and not as bad as a roller coaster as i was afraid it would be. Like a more adult Space Mountain. The seats are a little small though, as the lady in front of my row had a trick getting in(not to be mean, but it's the truth) and if you don't like the fire or your kids are afraid of it(like at the Jaws ride, like my bros were when they were little) I would suggest keeping them in the middle or the cart, as it does get hot.

I loved the ride, and thought they did a really good job! I even got a t-shirt from it!

Oh, another thing, the whole ride isn't a roller coaster, just the end part. There is a part in the beginning where you go through some stuff and then onto the rollercoaster.

The scarabs -- at least as they are being presented in the technical rehearsal -- aren't very realistic or alarming. This isn't the It's Tough to Be a Bug type of scare. Because the coaster is in motion the effect is limited to small spray of water which is clearly not as cool as air shooting from below or your vehicle seat wiggling around like it does in It's Tough to Be a Bug's finale.

My best advice to you is to go for it. The less you know about the ride the better the experience will be as there are some genuinely amazing surprises (in the queue area and the ride itself) that are best experiences.

If you need the complete play-by-play spoilers in case you want to know how scary it is or when to brace yourself for the one real jolt (and I'll spill the beans on that now -- when the car goes backwards and comes to a quick stop a few yards later, it is painfully sudden), check out Mummy Spoilers -- But, be warned, it will suck the fun out of your first ride.

Just came back. Rode the Mummy half a dozen times (no wait), thanks to an early entry day. The ride is very cool (I will not give anything away enjoy it), definitely in the testing stage different effects would either be working or not working on each ride I took.

This ride is set up to have the longest line I have seen at the park. I am curious to see what the wait times become on this one!

Is the ride open for good? Or will they close it to fix or work the bugs out? Going soon and want to ride....

Lets hope that they don't work those terrible bugs out. :)

Yes, they will close it according to reports and then reopen.

T&B

They close and open it periodically. It opened and closed early in the afternoon, and then reopened at night when we were there one day. It is not yet open, so they're still trying to get everything right.

It will be closed for the entire day for a few solid weeks leading up to grand opening. I heard today is the first day it is closed.

We're at Universal right now!! :bounce: (ok, right this minute we're at the hotel resting!).
We were told just a little while ago that the ride is now closed until the grand opening. :( We were hoping to catch it open. Oh well, lots of other fun things to do!
