The New Lizard Lounge

Gretch, I honestly can’t remember if the lounge has a microwave or not. I think that Mara does, but I can’t swear to it. Sorry!

Steph, you’re on a roll! Quick, go call to check on the RPC!

Steph H That is wonderful news. It is always great to save money! I hope RPC opens up for your trip. :cool1: I think you and Minniesota and myself are all going to be in WDW at the same time. It would be cool if we could meet up. What are your dates?

I guess everyone who loves the Polynesian is busy with school starting up. I have not gotten any answers to my Poly questions. I have even pm'd some members regarding their recent stays and no answer. It's that time of year. School is starting and kids have a lot to keep parents busy. Boo hoo

Calling all Polynesian Lovers !!

I need suggestions and ideas of ways to make this week at the Polynesian special for my wonderful dear husband (he deserve to have it spelled out) :sunny: We will be there for his birthday. Does the Polynesian have items that can be delivered to the room like the GF did. I was going to order the chocolate cigars at GF and surprise him, but I don't think GF would deliver to the Poly.

Also, I need suggestions for a room request. It would be nice to see the water, maybe a little of the castle. Does anyone have a suggestion? Tikiman's site is down until next month, and a month from today :cloud9: we will be checking in at the Polynesian. I know I can contact the Disney Florist for things to be delivered, but I wanted something really special and themed for my sweetheart.

OK....everyone that knows and and loves the Polynesian, what things should we make sure we don't miss? What is the top items we must do? You are such a great group and have so much knowledge I know I will get many wonderful answers and suggestions. :grouphug:

Angel, I can’t be too much help with room requests (we’ve only stayed in Hawaii at the Poly). I’m also not sure about room deliveries, but I’m sure they would be happy to work with you. I do have some suggestions though. Be sure to stake out a hammock on the beach to watch Wishes or the Electrical Water Pageant. Ahhh, romantic. :lovestruck:

Have you considered one of Peggy’s baskets? She does some amazing work from the pictures I’ve seen. She can do custom stuff suited to your DH’s tastes too. Here’s a link to her site (her DIS name is feralpeg): http://peggyssweetsandmore.com/index.html

Angel, I just happened to be talking with someone in regards to the Poly. She is going there soon for her honeymoon and wanted to make some special arrangements. I had her check out Deb's site, specifically the menu for private dining, http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_polr.htm . They have some great ideas listed and she went ahead and booked the romantic dinner for 2.

Ah, well, I tried, but still no openings in RPC. Anyone have opinions on my chances of having an available RPC room when I check in?? I'll keep calling, but I'm wondering if my luck will be better when I'm actually standing there THAT day.

Not that I'm complaining...still have concierge, right? And now I get the desserts, too.

Thank you Elizabeth and Tammi for your suggestions. I have contacted Peggy from Peggys sweets and more. She is preparing a basket that is sounding like it will be fantastic  DH will be so surprised.
I am going to consider the dinner in our room. I checked the site and I can arrange it after we get to the hotel. So we may do that. :goodvibes
As far as rooms at the Poly go. I have requested a magic kingdom view and a balcony. Also, ask for Tahiti if possible.

Our trip is really coming together. We have several plans in place and just can't wait until the day arrives.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last day of August.

I saw a post ealier in the week by Tikiman. He mentioned that guests were being booked into Rapu Nui with the renovated rooms. I'm not familiar with the Poly, so I don't know if that would be a good building request.

The kids are enjoying their last week of freedom before school starts next week. My district and DD's goes back on Tuesday and DS begins school on Wednesday. The biggest change in our lives this year is that oldest DD has decided to transfer to a local college and live at home. I can't say I'm disappointed, we really missed having her around and our family just didn't feel complete when she was away. I know they all leave home eventually, but I'll take them for as long as they want to stay.

Hi All

Just back from a great trip with just DS(4 1/2) and my friend, her DH, and her DS(15). I really enjoyed the ASMo. My first value stay and wouldn't hesitate to try it again but probably not will all 3 of my small children or DH who doesn't travel well. Would also go the last week of August again as the crowds were very low and we only used fast pass for Soarin (can't wait to ride that again!).

Steph-congrats on the airline vouchers. I used $94 per ticket from last year for my Oct trip. You don't have to fly within 1 year-just need to purchase tickets within 1 year of getting the vouchers so maybe you'll be up for traveling with a baby by then. My youngest was 11 months on her first trip and was much easier at 11 months than at 21 months.

Angel-sorry I didn't respond to your Poly inquiries. I too have only stayed in Hawaii so can't comment on rooms. I have also only ever been with small children so a bit of a different kind of trip from yours with DH. We loved to stroll over to the Grand Floridian-a nice relaxing walk but I think your knees might be better off with the monorail. The beach is very relaxing with swings and hammocks. The Electric Water Pagent at night is a bit hokey but really cute-very Disney. We really love the Poly at night with the castle all lit up across the lagoon and the piped in music and tiki torches. Kona is great! I had to leave early last year because the kids were getting restless-it was our arrival day-so I took my meal to go and brought the kids back to the room. My meal was great but I can't wait to go back and try dessert there. I'm sure you'll have a great stay at the Poly. I took the bus from ASMo yesterday to Epcot so we could ride the monorail to TTC-got to sit with the driver :teeth: . We then took the ferry to MK. I hadn't gone on the ferry since 1996. We could see the Poly from the boat-I was homesick! Can't wait to get to the Poly in October.

Welcome back Lovesdumbo! I am so very happy you had a good trip. You certainly deserved it. I bet DS felt like a prince having mom all to himself. Glad you were able to experience a up-front ride on the monorail. It give a whole new prospective to the trip.

We stayed at one of the values and thought it was pretty great. It was last year for one night at Pop. We got in late and didn't want to pay $$ for just a place to sleep. The room was smaller, but fine for two. There wasn't a lot of noise, it was clean and they even gave us our requested King bed. All in all we were comfortable and would certainly do it again. The food court is Great there. In fact we may have to head back for one of Mom's specials this trip. :earboy2: The meatloaf was super.

Thank you for your suggestions. We will certainly have to head out to the beach and one of the swings. I can't wait. :thewave: This is going to be our last vacation for some time and we are going to make it a memorible one! :rolleyes1 :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Tammi, Congratulations on having your DD going to college closer and living at home. They bring such joy to our lives and it is wonderful to watch the changes they go through while in college. It sound like you have a pretty wonderful family.

Thank you also for your room suggestions. It would be fantastic to have one of the new rooms. But, I know we will have a wonderful time no matter where our room is.

Big News - Our SIL called us from Iran It was so wonderful to hear his voice and such a suprise. He is doing well. Very hot over there and he is tired. But he is doing good. Thank you all for your prayers. :grouphug: Please keep them going. :)

Hey.....take a look at my counter.... :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2:

Been lurking on this forum, but needed to respond. I am so glad that you were able to speak to your SIL. Thank God,again and again, that he is safe! My nephew will be serving his 3rd tour in Iraq in Feb. so I know how hard it is for family left behind. Your SIL is added to my prayers, along with all of the other service men and women serving so far from home. God bless.

Good morning fellow Lizards! Can I take a moment to share my little happy thing that happened this morning regarding my trip?

I was talking to my coworker who wants to go to Disney in January, and we were dicussing flight costs. She's really concerned that prices are going to go up quickly (especially after Katrina) and she wants to hurry up and buy her tickets. It made me curious to see how much the price of MY tickets had gone up since I bought them in February, so I went and looked--and they went DOWN by $176 apiece! I was stunned, needless to say. I chalked it up to my bad timing, and grumbled on the way home last night. But this morning, she pointed out to me that I could call and see if they might give me a credit or something. Well, sure enough, I called and they gave me three vouchers for $151 dollars each ($25 charge per ticket, but who cares?)! Now, the funny part is that I have to use these things within a year, and I can't see myself flying anywhere with a new baby next year, but maybe we will, just for fun. It would seem a shame to waste the credit, right?

So now I have first class seats AND $450 worth of travel vouchers! Now if I can just get the RPC to open up, I will be on the ultimate :cloud9: . Think I'll go make another phone call. . . ;)

Which airline and what department did you call? I would love $400 in vouchers. About $100 per ticket in less than 2 weeks. Thanks and congratulations :)

Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well. I just submitted my PS requests and planning packet info to the WL concierge pre-planners. All I can say is that they have been excellent! Very prompt and efficient. Two thumbs way up!

Angel, what wonderful news about your SIL! Prayers continue for his safety.

Nancyg56 First, thank you so very much for your sweet message and prayers for our SIL. It was so wonderful to know he was safe and to hear his voice. :cloud9: I will add your nephew to our prayer list. Third tour...that just is not right! Please thank him for my DH and myself.

Second, Welcome to the Lizard lounge. :flower: Please join us! We would love to have you. We are a helpful, caring and friendly group, who sometimes get a little crazy. :goodvibes

Everyone have a great week end. Our big plans are starting to pack for our trip. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Angel, your counter is looking very good. That's wonderful news about your SIL.

Ead, your trip will be here before you know it. I can't wait to hear about the new concierge setup at the WL. We've visited there a few times, but never stayed. I try so hard to broaden my Disney resort horizons, but I can't seem to leave my beloved GF.

Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a family crisis. Basically something you might see on Jerry Springer. My dad passed away very suddenly yesterday after falling and breaking his hip earlier in the week. He lives in Florida with his new wife (my mom passed away 9 years ago) and she never even called to tell us he was in the hospital or going through surgery. I finally heard from her this evening and thankfully, she is going to bring his ashes home to be buried alongside our mother, "when she can". I have no idea what that means, except that she has to save some money so she can drive up. I'm wondering if she's trying to get money out of me at a time like this. The conversation tonight was 80% about money and what she was going to do. I know my dad had life insurance and they had just sold the condo, which was in his name only and bought a double-wide, which he put in her name. It's almost like she's holding his ashes hostage, because she doesn't want me to go get them and bring him home, she wants to bring him up herself and be involved in any type of service that we are planning. God forgive me, but I don't want anything more to do with her. She's been vicious and nasty to me when I tried to stay in my fathers life and pretty much cut us off from him. Now all of a sudden, she is so thankful for being accepted and his children are her family and his grandchildren are her grandchildren. I'm the oldest of six kids and my brothers and sisters are looking to me to do the right thing and I'm at a loss. I really thought she would have something down there for the friends that they made together and let us have something up here with our family and friends. Things are sort of a mess right now and it's been an overwhelming day, so I think that I'll just sleep on it tonight and hopefully I'll figure something out tomorrow. Sorry for the rant and the vent, but I'm trying to keep it all together for the rest of my family and really needed to get all that off my chest.

Tammi

Tammi I am so sorry to hear about your father. :grouphug: I hope your are able to bring him home to rest.

Tammi, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and the added pain of a family member that seems to want to profit from your grief. My deepest sympathy, along with my prayers to you and your family.

Angel16, thank you for your warm welcome. This is a wonderful group and I am very happy that I found all of you. My DS is stressed about her DS going back, but he is stateside now, and we will be seeing him at Christmas. Best present ever! We are so grateful for this. One day at a time, I guess.

Good morning, lizards!

Tammi - OMG, I am so sorry for your loss and how terrible that you have this added distress to an already painful time. I can't even imagine how you must be feeling. And I know what you mean about your family position. I'm the oldest girl of 7 and am often put in the decision-maker position - for better or worse. I know you will handle this with strength and grace. You are in my prayers.

Angel16 - Great news about your SIL - I wish him continued safety - and thank him for his service from all of us in the lounge. Packing, huh? That must mean I have to start thinking about that too! Though my trip will be shorther that your fabulous adventure! Hope we can connect while we're in the world - it's always great to meet a fellow lizard. Have you heard from StephH about her plans?

ead79 - Yes, you will have to tell us all about WLC. We stayed in the villas at Christmas shortly after they opened - it's a beautiful resort. The biggest reason I haven't returned is that it's so much like my home state - AND - like Tammi, I can't seem to leave the GF! I'll be there in 3 weeks!!!!!!

lovesdumbo - Sounds like you had a great trip. ANd I agree, Soarin' is very cool. I'm hoping I can get my sister on it in 3 weeks. She has some issues with motion sickness so we'll see.

nancyg56 - Welcome to the lounge! It's been a busy summer and we've been drifting in and out but we are a fun group with lots of information to share. And we have big shoulders, too!

I'm putting out Quiche Lorraine and fresh fruit this morning. And the capaccino machine is ready. Enjoy and have a great weekend everyone!

Tammi-thinking of you. :grouphug:

Angel-enjoy my beloved Poly! I think I may actually try a Lapu Lapu on my next trip-seems like I was either prenant, nursing or too tired to try one on my previous trips.

DD(6) started 1st grade last week and loves it. DS(4) is looking forward to his 2nd year of preschool and DD(2) just started with a new speech therapist. She has made amazing progress. Just a year ago she had less than 10 words and they were all ba or ma and was very frustrated and screaming a lot. Now she's talking in complete sentences (I don't want the Buzz plate Mama, I want the Cinderella one.) Her articulation still needs lots of improvement (hence she got a Buzz plate when she wanted the flower one...) but I'm sure the next few months of therapy will help her with that. She'll stick with this therapist until her 3rd birthday in January and then we'll see if she still needs help through the public school.

I'll have to start packing soon. I want to send a package ahead to the hotel so that I can take all the luggage with me when I go early with my oldest. Then my DH will just have a carryon and DS and youngest DD-with the help of a friend. And they'll arrive and I we will already be all settle in the room. I'm hoping DH will find that a less stressful way to travel-he hates the getting there.

Tammi: I can't even begin to tell you how I sympathize with you over the loss of your father. My prayers and tears go out to you. But, you will get through it. Please talk to your siblings and ask for their assistance in dealing with the new wife. Don't take on that burden alone if you can in any way avoid it.

Angel: I'm so happy for you. I can't imagine having a family member in the armed services right now. You and all the other families will remain in my prayers.

Nancyg56: Welcome. I am rather new here myself but have found a great group of people. They have helped me through some tough times and have given some great suggestions. Stick around -- it can sometimes turn into a 5 course meal or just a quick drink with friends.

I promise to do a review of the WL CL. I stayed at the WL back in 2000, but not CL. I’m looking forward to trying it, especially now that they have a true lounge area. I know that a while back many people complained about the pre-planning service being slow, but I’m happy to report that they were super quick to get back to me so far. Looks like that has been turned around. :)

Tammi, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. My prayers are with your family during this difficult time. I’m so sorry that his wife is making it so much more difficult than it should be. I don’t have any advice, but I can offer you a shoulder to cry on and am happy to listen. I’m sorry you’re bearing the stress of this.
