Heatherlynn....it's club level though.....I thought the PP meant just plain STANDARD....:confused3

The only standard rooms in the main building are club level...i guess the word standard is causing confusion. For me anyway.:rotfl:

You are braver than I! When we aren't staying at the GF I won't even eat there- makes me too sad! :rotfl:

Hi everyone -

We need to request a late check out on the day we leave since our flight is scheduled to depart at 5:30 p.m. When is the best time to ask if this possible? When we check in or the day we leave?
Thanks!

yeah.....mostly they give you noon, too...and i was told by a CM to ask at check in and then call and remind them the night before....:confused3 Maybe it doesn't matter:confused: (I am sure like everything else - it depends WHO you talk to)...but if you want to know for sure right away I would just mention it at check in. They'll at least tell you the procedure.

Greetings - we're frequent DL visitors, have never been to WDW but I'm planning for Jan. 2010 now. First or second week of that month as we prefer slow and off-season. We typically stay at the Grand Californian at DL. I'm looking at Grand Floridian for WDW (I've got a TON of reading to do in this thread, so bare with me because I'm learning all of this starting now!) We do tons of character meals and the one at this hotel looks perfect (as well as the tea party!), it looks like GF is closest to Magic Kingdom which is where I think we'll spend the majority of our time, and my daughter will be 5 for this trip. Any tips or ideas???

The rooms in the main building are all either club level rooms or suites. There aren't any just standard rooms....so if you book a "standard club level room" you will be in the main building.:thumbsup2 They are all pricier than the standard GV or LV or TPV rooms.

Lives4Disney:)

Yes sorry should have said standard club level :) Not a suite though!:) Maybe someday :)

oh sorry I misunderstood! :rotfl: There was a 'rumor" floating around last week that there were two little known "standard" rooms in the main building.:rotfl: I wasn't sure if that was where you were headed with the question.;)

The standard club level rooms in the main building sleep 5 with two queens and a daybed. There are some in wings that face the marina and look toward the castle...and others that have a courtyard pool view...and some that have the Beach Pool view. You can request which view you'd prefer and they try and accommodate.:wizard:

Happy planning!

I've got it that Tower Rooms are a separate booking category and thanks to reading this thread I've just found out that 5th floor tower rooms do not have balconies. If you book a Lodge tower room can you specifically request one with a balcony?? We want a Lodge tower room for our June trip and I call every few days to see if one if available to switch our GV ressie to that.

They will give you what they can - you can make the request, but I don't think requests are heard. Too many people request toooooo many things nowadays. If you're not happy with your room at check in they can try and change it at that point.

It's actually the 4th floor lodge tower rooms....there aren't 5th floor LT rooms....not that it matters:rolleyes: ..but it's the same..top floor Lodge Tower room = no balcony....but they have nice high vaulted ceilings. In June, though, I would want a balcony. I would miss it if it were summer time.

Hi All,

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I tried to search the forum but no luck.
Does GF charge for parking for resort guests? If so, how much?

We're planning to drive to FL this time. I read some bad reviews on tripadvisor about the valet parking sub-contractor for the contemporary. Any thoughts about the valet service at GF?

Thanks!

Parking is free in the self parking lot. Valet parkiing is $10 a day. We always valet park and never had any problems. When we call from the room, the car is always waiting for us when we get there. We have never waited more than 5 minutes for the car if we don't call in advance.

Thanks:) Yeah it would be a bummer not to have a balcony in June...It's a moot point right now since I don't have a LT room yet..just a GV..but I expect to have one booked by June. Fingers crossed for a balcony then:goodvibes Thanks again.

I have faithfully read every remark made here for the last few months and I am living by this as if it were my bible...but my vacation is about 2 months out and I am really starting to panic...I want this trip to be awesome, because my DH wanted to stay at the CR and with the 4/3 I booked GF and he was not so thrilled...so I want to wow him without braking the bank...we have GV rooms reserved...nothing requested because I dont think it makes a difference...right?* I did not do concierge because we have th DDX and with the little ones have a lot of things planned for their amusements...Pirate cruise reserved for the little ones...cabana reserved for the big ones...what else can I do to make this great.......HELP!

Well...this is a long story. SOOOOO....i was going to book a GV at the polynesian with the 4/3 deal....i had to wait till tomorrow morning ( 15th ) because thats when i get paid, and i can make a NICE down payment. Well, I looked tonight and GV at the poly is booked! Only one avail is theme park view. :( which i really can't afford right now.. So i decided to look at the GF and low and behold they have some GV with the 4/3 deal avail! that being said:

Ive never stayed at the GF. EVER! I've had the opportunity, but have always chosen the Contemporary or the Poly. I have read through this thread and have seen lots of ideas on rooms and stuff.

My DH and I are going. My DH first visit to disney ( so i want it to be special) and my birthday! WE are going this June.

So, my question is. with GV what building should i request? I don't want to get stuck with a Parking lot view in the Sago building, but like the idea of the marina view. Also i wouldn't mind looking at the monorail and the poly too. Please please help me decide what to request. should i do it when we get there? Should i put in my ressy that its' my bday and its my DH first disney trip???? I've got sooooo much on my mind! :) anyways...Thanks for your help everyone!!!!

Hello Everybody,

We just got back from 7 nights at the GF. It was our first stay ever and the first trip to WDW for our 18 month old Alex. Overall, we certainly had a "Grand" time and would likely return to stay at the GF in the future.

We did have a few "hicups" at the GF however. The first being our room. DW had requested no down pillows or bedding and no perfume cleaners in the room and requested a room near the monorail station. (We were in a GV room so we knew we would not be in the main building.) When we checked in we had a nice room at Sago on the marina side. Great view. But it was a single king bed and we had requested two queens. (Due to medical issues with my son, he can't really sleep in a crib, so we wanted two queens.) The front desk said they would move us and send someone to take us to our new rooms. The CM showed up and gave us our new keys, pointed out the new building on the map and left. So, we wandered around and found our new room in Big Pine which was great since it was closer to the monorail station.

They gave us a dormer room up on the 5th floor. While this was a fine room too, it was significantly smaller (no day bed). We had six bags plus carry on bags and stroller and couldn't see fitting comfortably in that room. Reluctantly we asked for another change which the front desk gave us, but gave us a little flak for it...saying that we should have let them know our preferences. I wasn't aware that I had tell them I wanted a standard two queen GV room when that's exactly what I had reserved in the first place.

Anyway, the third room was the charm. 3rd floor, Big Pine, looking towards the pool...except our view was more like the side of the next building over. But it was still a nice view anyway and the room was exactly what we had expexted in the first place.

Housekeeping left alot to be desired. No towel animals all week. Missing towels, missing wash cloths. They would occasionally take our robes out and not replace them. Some nights they day bed would be made up (we never asked for that) some nights it would not be. We had bed rails requested for one of the queens. Sometimes the bed rails would be taken out, some nights they would not be. Hotel cups and mugs would often not be replaced.

Frankly, I had better housekeeping service at the Value resorts everytime I have stayed there. We talked to someone about it (and the fact that it took 3-5 minutes to get hot water running in the room every day) and they said that was not acceptable and gave us a $100 room credit. We thought that was more than fair and left the matter closed. We did stop tipping the housekeeper halfway through the trip after the housekeeping manager made it clear that we do NOT have to tip.

Now, that sounds like alot of complaining...and maybe it is....but honestly, we had a great time and really loved the GF. We had alot of good CM interaction while we stayed there. The band took a short break inbetween songs to talk to us and our son. The Photo Pass people on 2nd floor in the lobby were really great and loved our son too. Richard the doorman was a real treat too. It was these nice CM interactions, the location, and the beautiful surroundings, that make the Deluxe Resort stand out from the Value Resort. I will likely stay in Value resorts again of course, but I do see the difference in the Deluxe. I don't think I would stay in a Deluxe every time I went down....but I am sure glad I did get to experience it.

By the way, dinner at Narcoosee's was fantastic. Loved it. Loved our server, loved the food, loved the location, loved watching "Wishes" out on the deck. It was probably our best meal of the trip. Gasperialla's was small. Very small compared to a food court in a value resort. But they had great, fresh baked items for breakfast.

Thanks for the help from everyone in this thread. We had a "grand" time!

Eric

was the lobby floor in the main building ever finished?

Does anyone have pictures?

Thanks so much!

It sounds like you have more than enough planned, so take a deep breath and relax and enjoy the beauty of the hotel. :goodvibes It is the only place my DH will stay anymore :cloud9:
