The *New* Grand Floridian Resort and Spa FAQ thread (NOV 2008)

I just read a quick review of the GF in another thread. It was a good review with many positive comments. However, one comment in particular caught my attention..."If you are travelling with young girls who are into the princesses, the themeing and character meals at the GF are great."

My question is.....What if you don't have young girls who are into princesses? What if you have 3 young boys, ages 11, 7 & 7? Will GF be too girly, girly for them? Do any of you GF fans have boys that enjoy the GF as much as you do?

Hi. I'm the author of the review being quoted. I commented on the appeal of the GF for young girls because that's what I have :) . I certainly saw boys enjoying the GF and I don't think it is any "girlier" in its decor and themeing than the EPCOT area resorts. Dinner at 1900 Park Fare is definitely a princess affair, but breakfast would be fine for young boys (Pooh and Tigger are there and the Mad Hatter is hillarious). I was loudly greeted by several young pirates down at the boat dock and I saw many teenaged boys enjoying the pool and hot tub.

I think it depends on your children and your family's tastes and needs. The main thing I wanted to convey was that, if the GF themeing and amenities appeal to people, they shouldn't think twice about whether their kids will be welcome at the resort.

AMB1 I missed your review but I agree we have always felt very comfortable at the GF with our children...it really is a very family oriented resort...:)

Thanks AMB1!
Your review was great. This will be our first stay at GF and all of your honest comments are most appreciated.:flower3:

Hi all:)

The queen of resort changers (ok I gave myself that title)...;) lol changed back to the GF! SO excited...DD12 decided she would return to the place where "Tink" visited her the night she lost her first tooth:)
Not changing again!! I am done!
Just recalled, DS chipped his tooth on the bottom of the beach pool playing with DH that trip too.....better check our dental plan! lol

I am so excited for you D!! You will love the GF!

To All of my fellow mothers of boys!!:) I have 2 sons in their late teens...and they truly are GF fans...have been since their very first stay at about age 2....It is a beautiful resort but not a girlie one IMO...(although they always did prefer the game room at the CR...)

They enjoy both pools especially the waterfall pool with that great slide...they will still go on the slide over and over...:rotfl:

There is alot more to do for the younger boys now then there was way back when...the pirate cruise...wii at the pool and movies and smores on the beach...

I have only enjoyed the tea with DD the boys have never expressed interest...:confused3

Lots to do for kids of all ages...:)

Kelly My kids say the same thing whenever we are booking a disney trip...given a choice the GF is always everyones first choice...mine too...

Thank you for posting this. I have 3 boys ages 9,9,11 and I was a little worried about this.

I have followed this thread for quite a while now and am so fed up with all the bickering on it that I think I will take a break from it.

I have to sit and scroll through the arguing back and forth to find out a little information about a mug and that is just ridiculous.

I thought these boards were to provide a positive outlet for disney fanatics as well as usually useful information.

Quite honestly its gone on and on and really should have been addressed by a moderater much sooner so that it would stay off of this main thread and perhaps you both could work it out through a PM where everyone doesnt have to witness it or be a part of it.

Just my opinion of course, however this thread will be losing one reader for a while, and perhaps down the road I will check back to see if the thread has become once again the nice, informative thread it used to be.

Thankfully other dis threads are not like this because I think readers would finally get fed up much like how people express being fed up with Linda's behavior at the GF.

Take care everyone, while I love GF and feel the love there, I am definitly not feeling it here.:sad2:

Too tired from another day at WDW to spend much time here but the slight change in my cake order could not possibly be Linda's fault unless she actually baked the cake.;) She placed the order correctly. When I called the am of our dinner, the CM in private dining read the descriptions to me.

I do wish CMs were not mentioned by name unless it was postitive. After all they can not defend themselves here.

Welcome to the new folks on the FAQ.....many of us have been here for years and watched people grow in their knowledge of the GF. Some of you may be the new experts in a year or two.

We also have some new posters who are obviously longtime GF lovers.

Supporting each other is good. :goodvibes
