PPPFQP,
turn down is for all GF guests. You can call Mousekeeping to request it.

the GF Cafe is yummy. If you're going during a busy time, you may need an ADR. It can't hurt to make one regardless.

Have fun!

Hello fun disney people! :mickeyjum

Our trip is coming up, at the end of November, and we are getting SO excited! I was wondering if anyone new of a good way to have presents or decorations or something waiting for my daughter in our room on the day we arrive. We actually get there ON her birthday and I would love to have it be even more magical for her. Is there anyone through disney that does that or is there someone outside of disney that still does baskets or anything?

Thanks SO much for your help. :tink:

Hi Roberta, You can do several things to surprise your daughter. There is Walt Disney World Florist, 1503 Live Oak Ln, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830, 407-827-3505.
www.disneyflorist.com

They have a very nice site with many ideas for gifts, Christmas trees, snacks and flower. My DH used them last year to surprise me on our anniversary. They were GREAT!

Another option you have is to shop for the items you would like and ship them down to your resort. It is less expensive, you can get whatever items you would prefer for your daughter.

I know of one DISer who shipped a small Christmas tree with decorations, and gifts already wrapped. She was staying concierge, the CM's in concierge put up her tree and placed the gifts around it. (She did not expect them to do this for her, so it was a very nice surprise for the whole family when they walked into their room).

How old is your daughter? There are things in the air about items being offered for a new idea for young children and gift items. It seems to be for children under 9 years old.

Thank you Angel16 :)

My daughter will be turning 6 on the day we arrive. We are not staying in Concierge (although I wish now that we were, but we're traveling with family that didn't really want to do the concierge thing this time)...but do you think they would still put stuffed animals in the room or something if I would ship it there? That would be amazing.

Thanks for the disney florist site too. They have some really fun stuff on there! :thumbsup2

Thanks a bunch and I would love any more info anyone has. We went 2 years ago and stayed at the polynesian. They had a card from Mary poppins they put in the room and they made a huge deal of it being her birthday while she was in the parks wearing her birthday button. She was only 3 at them time, so she doesn't remember too much, but we loved every minute of it. This will be the first time we have all four of our children with us at DW, so it will be tons of fun!

Thanks again!

I think DH and I are going to bite the bullet and book a honeymoon room for my belated 30th b-day celebration next December. We would love to get a turret room. Did your room have a view that included the castle?

Tinkaroo, happy belated (early?!) birthday! A stay at the Grand Floridian will be a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday (and I hope you get a honeymoon turret room).

I know that Hmp2z has already answered your question, but I promise that I'll post photos of my turret room's view at some point today (while my daughter is in Tae Kwon Do lessons, I'll have my laptop with me and will be working on photos). I'm fairly certain that I have some view photos that were taken in the daylight hours. If I do, they will give you an idea of what the view looked like.

I should mention that my turret room's view extended from the Wedding Pavilion to Cinderella Castle (the castle could be seen peeking through the lodge buildings). As you can imagine, it was a wonderful view.

I’ll post here in the thread once the view photos have been uploaded. That won't be until later on today so please be patient with me.

Disney doesn't offer any type of room decorating, but the GF has a private dining department that you can arrange a birthday cake with. It comes on a festive table complete with some birthday hats and confetti. If you're looking for something very unique, you might want to check out this site, www.giftsofalifetime.com . They advertise a room decorating service, but I have no idea how they pull that off. They can also do park shopping and have a gift bag delivered to the resort.

yeah i wonder how they do that room decorating
i bet its cool
hows the skating going tammi? Whens your next WDW trip, i miss your trip reports.

Sorry if this has been asked before but, are there any laundry facilities in the SL Bldg.? Also, are there any of the bikes with the surreys ( I don't know what they are called) and hair braiding at the GF ?????

Does anyone have a map of the resort to see where all of the Bldg's are???

No bike rentals at the GF. Pretty sure the hair braiding is offered by the pools.

http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/map_gf.jpg and the buildings are as close together as they look on this map. I think the longest walk was about 7 minutes from the boat dock to the main building.

I'm not positive about the laundry, but to the best of my knowledge, they have a laundry room in every building.

There is no laundry room in Sugar Loaf. The closest is Conch Key. It was my understanding that the laundry room in SL was removed when it became a concierge building some years ago. The space was converted into "backstage" for concierge.

Oh well, I guess I will have to take a drink with me and walk on over to the COnch Key Bldg. to do laundry. ;)

I put photographs of the views for Turret Room 4321 into my on-line photo album. I marked up most of the photos so that you would understand what you were looking at.

For those of you who haven’t been inside a turret room yet, this particular room had banks of windows on five of its sides. The windows gave at least a 180-degree view of the room’s surroundings: click here.

The view began on the left-hand side with a faraway view of Cinderella Castle as it stood between the lodge buildings and peeked above the treetops. The view extended all the way to the right-hand side with a faraway view of the Wedding Pavilion and Franck’s Bridal Studio. The entire view was really quite breathtaking and it was the first thing that you noticed upon entry to the room. Truly a “be still my heart” type of moment.

I’ve broken the photographs down into two categories: daytime and nighttime views. I hope I’ve included enough photos so that you have a feeling for the room’s views.

Daytime Views:

Entranceway View
Desk Area View

View To Left (including Cinderella Castle)

Nighttime Views:

I wish I would have taken video of the room’s views. Uploading a video clip would have been less time-consuming for me than uploading (and marking) a slew of photographs. As the saying goes, you live and learn. ;)

WOW! This is wonderful janet. :) We stayed in one of the turret rooms at the front of the resort overlooking the monorail station. The MK view ones were taken during our stay. The view from your room is amazing!!!

Janet2k, thanks so much for sharing! I really really hope we get one of those rooms for our honeymoon in January! :wizard:

Since this seems to be "photo weekend" for me (and it's about time, too, I tell ya), I found a photo that I took of the resort during the prior summer. I thought I would post a link to that photo here so that you would have a better idea of where Turret Room 4321 is located: click here. (I'll go back and add that photo link to my prior post.)

While I was working on my photos late last night, I stumbled into one from two years ago: click here. I had to laugh when I viewed that photo. It seems that fate, or Tinker Bell, was giving me a hint as to what the future held in store for me. It’s a shame that I didn’t realize it at the time. ;)

I'm going to attempt to put some more turret room photos into my photo album. Again, as soon as the album is completed, I'll let you folks know. Then I will begin working on sharing a couple of Victoria & Albert's photos (my daughter loved her first dining experience there), a couple of private party photos (the GF’s Convention Services folks did another beautiful job), and any other Grand Floridian photos that I think are appropriate to share here in the GF FAQ thread.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day holiday weekend. I’m laboring over my photos this weekend and am enjoying myself immensely.

Thank you so much, Janet, for these photos. They truly give you an idea of the room (and the view). THANKS!!!
